"Borderlands 2" Siren/Maya Skill Builds

Maya the Siren

Maya is one of the most fun Borderlands 2 characters to play. A runaway Siren from a powerful monastery on her homeworld (the monks were using her to control her own people), her character is comfortable with her powers but still growing into and enjoying her freedom. As a player, you get to grow with Maya and learn all the potential damage (and explosions!) she can inflict with her Phaselock skill, among others. Having a good skill set can help tremendously with getting the most effect out of Maya's awesome powers.

These are my favorite Maya builds.

  1. Pure Damage: Focuses on weapon damage and using Phaselock offensively.
  2. Survivalist/Team Player: Builds up your health generation.
  3. Phaselock Guru: Phaselock and explosions everywhere!!

Build 1: Pure Damage

This build concentrates on weapon damage and using Phaselock offensively. A lot of the health-increase skills are avoided in order to maximize on elemental, gun, and Phaselock damage. This is probably one of the top couple DPS builds in the game, comparable with the Gunzerker.

D P and S for Build 1: Pure Damage

D P and S for Build 1: Pure Damage

Note: Skills in bold are more important in each build.

Tier 1

Ward MAX: Shield Capacity +25%, Shield Recharge Delay -40%

Accelerate MAX: Gun Damage +15%, Bullet Speed +20%

Mind’s Eye MAX: Crit Hit Damage +25%, Melee Damage +30%

Flicker MAX: 30% more likely to cause elemental damage with guns

Foresight MAX: Magazine Size +20%, Reload Speed +25%

Tier 2

Wreck [2/5]- When an enemy is Phaselocked, Fire Rate +20%, Damage +12%

Tier 3

Converge 1/1:- Phaselock pulls other enemies towards the Phaselocked one

Chain Reaction MAX: When an enemy is Phaselocked, all shots have a 40% chance to ricochet and hit another enemy

Cloud Kill 1/1: Shooting an enemy creates a corrosive-damage-dealing Acid Cloud

Tier 4

Reaper MAX: If an enemy has more than half health, Gun Damage +40%

Tier 5

Blight Phoenix MAX: Killing an enemy causes you to deal constant Fire and Corrosive damage to nearby enemies

Tier 6

Ruin 1/1: Phaselock now Slags, Electrocutes, and Corrodes nearby enemies

Build 2: Survivalist/Team Player

The Siren gets to have all the team heal skills in this game, many of which are passive and make your team very hard to kill. The Siren gets ridiculous amounts of health regeneration and other defensive skills, so if your DPS build isn’t working out the way you want, adjust to something more balanced in the direction of this build.

Build 2: Survivalist/Team Player

Build 2: Survivalist/Team Player

Tier 3

Converge 1/1: Phaselock pulls other enemies towards the Phaselocked one

Elated MAX: When an enemy is Phaselocked, you and your friends regenerate 5% of your total health per second

Recompense 1/5: When you take health damage, there is a 10% chance your attacker takes the equal amount

Tier 4

Quicken MAX: Phaselock cooldown rate +30%

Sustenance 4/5: Constantly regenerate +1.6% of your health per second

Tier 5

Sub-Sequence [1/5]- When a Phaselocked enemy dies, there’s a 20% chance for the Phaselock to seek out another enemy

Build 3: Phaselock Guru

This is for those who love the Phaselock. And splosions. Sub-Sequence (TIER 5) is a must, and Ruin (TIER 6) is impossible to get so Helios (TIER 2) is your Phaselock’s main offense. Duration and cool-down for the skill are maxed out, so Phaselock can be cast every 10 seconds or so. Splosions for days.

You don't actually need Sub-Sequence or Sweet Release. Suspension is only useful if you can't kill enemies in 4 seconds. But, if you take the 11 points (wasted in my opinion) and put them in the Cataclysm tree and get full-upgraded Reaper, Blight Phoenix and Ruin. Combined with Converge from the Motion tree, you can easily kill within 4 seconds. The last 2 points you can put wherever you want. This build coupled with can actually be more powerful than the Pure Damage build if used right. You don't even need elemental weapons since you always have a guaranteed slag, burn, shock and corrode at your fingertips. This combined with high damage weapons can absolutely rekt.

"Team Player"

Don't get Res. Anyone seeing this should go watch Derch on YouTube, he is excellent at builds and guides.

hummer77 on September 09, 2016:

There is a rez you can get on siren only for teammates tho. The harmony tree, look for the feather. You can phaseshift your teammates to red.

GreenMind Guides from USA on November 22, 2015:

Hey this is a cool Hu. You really know your stuff and you can write, too...

Jazz on September 01, 2015:

No Res? What?

Some Random Guy on April 09, 2014:

What. the.

Now we got level 72 so maybe it's because of that.... but between a 20% chance to have phaselock pick a new target or RES, DAMN. ARE YOU A SUPPORT?

But anyway. Just think of all those 5 round arenas; if a siren dies, she can still go through a "window" somewhere, shoot the heck out of enemies and resurrect at will. (Or phaselock for that matter, though some find that being able to resurrect and not fail the mission sometimes helps)

Anyway. Why argue about the Siren anyway? It's the best class.

Datguy on March 04, 2013:

#1 Build Helios instead of Flicker was my Imagined Build, with all the Elemental Damage you deal with Phaselock, popping Fire from the Phaselock and using Torgue/Jakobs/Dahl stuff for raw damage seems like the best win.

Brandy on January 14, 2013:

Chain reaction is good when you maxed sweet release. You just only need 1 good gun for that. But also you can neutralize your enemy or lets just say a mini stun :D

WizKaleka on December 10, 2012:

Why not use Helios as part of DPS build? It doesn't show the dmg in the game but it seems like a good one to have.

Craig on November 25, 2012:

I find it odd that there is no pure medic team player... but I got you

Tier 1 Max sweet release

Max ward

Max accelerate

tier 2 Max restoration

Max suspension

Tier 3 converge

Revive

Max elated

tier 4 Max quicken

then what ever you want after

I'm playing solo Siren, and Build 1 seems nice.

Just started Vault Hunter Mode, currently lvl 39.

Instead of Flicker I raised Helios to add fire to Phaselock (I use mostly Torgue guns anyway, explosive power FTW).

Sacrificed 1 point in Chain Reaction to add Sweet Release, since I use a Nurse COM that gives bonus to it, and thinking of sacrificing Mind's Eye and Wreck to get some Kinetic Reflection, Suspension and Inertia.

Also, adaptative shields are great.

Orange on October 10, 2012:

I personally find it odd that your Survivalist/Team Player build doesn't have Res. I find that skill alone to be extremely useful when playing with a team, because you can res them from long range and stay in cover while you do it. I mean, it only uses 1 skill point as well.

Kreddi on September 23, 2012:

I would not agree with your phaselock build.

A small tip i found while playing maya:

Don't put anymore points in Motion skill-tree after the vacum effect at 11 points.

The bouncing does not refresh duration of phaselock, making it practicly useless as you spend 10 skill points just to get another possible bounce.

However, going all the way down cataclysm first and then get the vacum skill in Motion is an amazing combo as it removes practicly all shield of every unit in the area (currently lvl 42)

^Copy pasted that from a comment i made somewhere else earlier, and i would really discourage people leveling up the bouncing of phaselock until (if of course) a bounce refreshes the duration of phaselock completely
