Fans of the hit 2005 action-adventure video game, Shadow of the Colossus, by Japanese company Team ICO, were ecstatic to hear that come 2018, there would be a beautifully remastered edition of this magnificent game. The haunting story, enormous, yet lonely, explorable world, and stunning original soundtrack won the hearts of many PlayStation 2 players back in 2005, and again when it was re-released on PlayStation 3 in 2011.

Now that it has come to the PlayStation 4, veteran players of the game can see an enormous improvement in graphics, and love hunting and defeating the sixteen beautiful and terrible Colossi monsters.

"Kuromori" is the nickname given to the eighth Colossus, which means "black forest" in Japanese. This gecko or lizard-like creature crawls on walls and shoots deadly toxic projectiles at Wander, which makes it one of the scarier enemies in the game! This guide will tell you how to locate Kuromori and take him down. You do not need Agro for this mission.

“Thy next foe is... A tail trapped within a pail deep within the forest... A shadow that crawls on the walls.”

Finding Kuromori

This Colossus's location is south, slightly southwest of the Shrine of Worship. Get on Agro and take the path between two cliffs. When it forks, take the left path. Turn left again and head south.

There is a tree and a shrine this way, and they're worth grabbing on your way to the battle. While heading south, you can't miss the tree on the right. Stop to shoot arrows at the six pieces of fruit (including one on the smaller tree beside it) and get them down. Eating them grants Wander a permanent boost to his health bar. There is another tree when you head west, so do the same here.

Kuromori is located inside the cliff. Head north towards a shrine, where you can kill and eat the white lizard tail for a permanent increase to your stamina. This time, the lizard is crawling around on the grass near the shrine rather than on the building itself. After you've saved at the shrine, head east. You will see a cave leading into the cliff where you'll find your next foe.

Cross the natural bridge on Agro. When you've reached the other side, leave the horse behind; you won't need her for this battle. Cross the water and go down into the ruin. You will see two pillars; climb either one of them where you'll find the entrance to the inside of what looks like a small Colosseum. The battle begins here!

Latching On

At first, Kuromori will be standing at the bottom of the Colosseum. There's no need to head down there just yet, but go down one floor until you find a part of the arena that has been destroyed, giving you more room to aim.

Equip your arrows and shoot at the Colossus to get his attention. He will then start crawling up the wall to attack you.

You have to be quick! When he is at least two floors up, shoot an arrow at Kuromori's legs. They are a bright greenish color. Once you've shot two of his legs, the monster will fall from the wall onto his back.

Don't worry about taking the stairs, because this will only waste time. Jump straight down to where Kuromori is lying and get onto his stomach by running from his tail, which is wide and flat.

Note: There are several tricks to get onto Kuromori's belly without losing health, but this is the easiest and "official" way of doing it.

Finding Weak Spots (Magic Sigils)

You will only have time to attack one magic sigil this time. Make Wander climb up the beast's tail and onto the fur of his belly. Don't forget to press the bumper button to switch to your sword! As always, the sigil will light up, so stab at it until half of Kuromori's health is gone.

By this point, the Colossus will have started rolling back onto its feet. When this happens, run! There are some stairs you can escape to.

No doubt Wander will have lost some health in the process of jumping down to the bottom. The stairwells (the small rooms between floors) are completely safe from Kumomori unless the Colossus gets a particularly lucky shot with his projectile. Hold R2 to make Wander kneel and regain his health.

As before, you need to shoot the Colossus' legs to make him fall back onto his back. The second sigil is closer to his head, on his chest. After some good stabs, the eighth Colossus will be dead!

If You're Playing on Hard Mode

The magic sigils are the same in Easy, Medium, and Hard Modes, however, in the latter, Kuromori will need a lot more stabbing for all of his health to be depleted. You may need to shoot him off the wall more than twice.

If you're still struggling with how to defeat the eighth Colossus, check out the video guide below.

Kuromori isn't the largest of the Colossi, but he's definitely one of the scariest! It's enormous fun battling him and showing him who's boss. This guide will help you track down and destroy this deadly gecko, paving the way to you taking on the ninth Colossus monster, Basaran.
