Shadow of the Colossus is a magnificent and beautiful masterpiece of a video game that is so popular that it has been remastered twice, most recently on the PlayStation 4 in February 2018. Though the developers, Team ICO, kept it as close to the original as possible, the new version has greatly improved graphics, enhancing the experience for both first-time players and veterans who played the original PlayStation 2 version in 2005.

Now, new players can experience the gorgeous original soundtrack, large explorable world, and stunning Colossus monsters, each with their own puzzle on how Wander, our protagonist, can defeat them and bring the woman he loves back from the dead.

This is a guide on how to track down and defeat Argus, named "Minotaur C" while in development, the fifteenth Colossus Wander has to find and kill. This angry humanoid giant is one of the three Colossi who holds a weapon. You do not need Agro for this mission.

“Thy next foe is... A giant has fallen into the valley... It acts as a sentry to a destroyed city...”

Finding Argus

Argus is located north of the Shrine of Worship, so leave the shrine and hop on Agro. Once more, you have to cross the bridge that goes over the beach, where you'll be able to see the body of the second Colossus you fought.

Keep near the enormous bridge you crossed to reach the Forbidden Lands at the beginning of the game. Keep heading north. You'll come near the place where you defeated Colossus number twelve, but keep going until you have left the area behind. Soon enough, you'll come to a sand-covered hill and on the other side are some large ruins.

In front of the ruins is a small shrine, so stop to catch the lizard and eat its tail for a permanent bonus to Wander's stamina. It's also good to save here by pressing R2 in front of the shrine so that you can mark its location.

There is a pile of rocks before the ruins, slightly obscuring the view to the entrance. Go as far as you can on Agro before Wander has to go alone. Climb around the fallen pillar, up the stone steps, and into the ruins.

When you have reached the other side, there will be a short cutscene, and the battle with Argus will start!

Latching On

First, turn around and run! Though Argus is slow, it's quite scary when he's trying to stomp all over Wander. Head back to the pillars from which you came and turn left (or right when facing the Colossus) when you get to the end. Stand on the stone slab and wait for Argus to reach you.

He will lift up his foot to stomp on the stone slab. Dodge his initial stomp by rolling out of the way. Now the slab has been knocked crooked, allowing Wander to climb up onto the next level.

Now you'll be sort of inside the ruins. Shoot Argus with some arrows, preferably his fur. The Colossus' eyes will now glow orange and he'll hit at the ruins with his weapon. After a few tries, slabs of rock will fall from the ceiling, creating steps for Wander to jump through and reach the next level.

When you've got up there, head west and take the steps to the top of the ruins. Then go east, keeping at the highest level. You will stop two bridges. Choose one and stand on it; you might want to fire more arrows if Argus hasn't been following you.

As soon as Argus reaches his arm out to prepare for a swing, run back towards the wall. He will destroy the bridge, giving you a chance to jump on his head. You don't want to fall to the ground along with the bridge!

Finding Weak Spots (Magic Sigils)

The first of Argus' weak spots is, like many other Colossi, on top of his head. In Easy and Medium modes, this magic sigil is worth 85% of his overall health. Holding on with R2, stab at his head until the sigil disappears.

Make your way down the right side of his back until you reach his elbow, which is glowing blue. Deliver a nice strong stab there to make him drop his weapon.

After that, you can drop back down to the ground. Stand in front of Argus and wait for him to slam his hands on the ground to attack (if he stomps instead, stand a little farther away from him). When his hands are resting on the ground, make Wander clutch onto the Colossus' right hand. The magic sigil is on his palm, holding the other 15% of his health.

If You're Playing on Hard Mode

In Hard Mode, there is an extra magic sigil on this Colossus' body. The weak spot on his head is worth 42.5% of his health, the one on his hand is worth 15%, and the other 42.5% is on the upper-left part of his chest. Get this after you've cleared the sigil on his head.

If you are still unsure of how to take down Argus, there is a video guide below.

Argus is a strong warrior, apparently inspired by Greek mythology. With this guide, he'll be yours in no time, finally paving the way to you facing the sixteenth and final Colossus, Malus.
