The first game on our list is DUAL GEAR, a proper mech combat game that is fun to play. This game is a turn-based combat system that is a little different from what you might be used to. You pilot a mech and take it into real-time tactical battles, commanding the squad with turn-based elements to help create an interesting real-time, turn-based combination.
DUAL GEAR can be confusing at first, and it's packed with the typical, cheesy storytelling that one would expect of such a game, but it offers a very intriguing and interesting gaming experience as well. It might not be for every Armored Core fan, but it will definitely be for some.
2. Damascus Gear: Operation Tokyo
This game offers a similar approach to Armored Core in that it is a mech-heavy game with plenty of options for customisation and improvement. The improved HD graphics are a nice touch, and you can easily build your own gear to take into battle and reclaim the world that has been lost.
Like most games of this type, it tends to be half-cheese and half-quality. It has a great system and aesthetic, but some of the writing can be a little bland. Aside from that, you may find that this hack-and-slash title offers the insanity, pace, and combat enjoyment that many are looking for when trying to scratch that Armored Core itch.
3. Front Mission Evolved
Though over a decade old now, Front Mission Evolved offers a very similar experience to Armored Core. It might not be for everyone, but it does provide you with customisation options and chances to build a quality mech that fits your specific playstyle. Without a doubt, Chromehounds offers a similar experience to Armored Core. It has a lot of style and manages to put together a nice modernisation on some of the old systems that have aged less gracefully. The game is also made by FromSoftware, so it has plenty of creative usage from its other IP!
It’s a fun game that is packed with action and intrigue. It also has a lot of planning involved, which many users enjoy as it makes you have to think a bit clearer about what is happening and why. It’s definitely the kind of game that an Armored Core fan will love, providing you with ample objectives and challenges to overcome.
The second to last game on our list is the granddaddy of mech combat—MechWarrior. It’s a good, enjoyable reboot of the popular series from back in the day and takes you back to the universe of BattleTech for some pretty stellar fun and enjoyment. You take control of a mech that you can improve and customise as much as you want as time goes on. It helps to build a mech that fits the playstyle you feel most comfortable with.
Though it might not be quite as good as the best Armored Core titles, the most modern iteration from the MechWarrior series is worth trying out if you want that mech combat fix.
10. Daemon X Machina
