1. DUAL GEAR
The first game on our list is DUAL GEAR, a proper mech combat game that is fun to play. This game is a turn-based combat system that is a little different from what you might be used to. You pilot a mech and take it into real-time tactical battles, commanding the squad with turn-based elements to help create an interesting real-time, turn-based combination.
DUAL GEAR can be confusing at first, and it's packed with the typical, cheesy storytelling that one would expect of such a game, but it offers a very intriguing and interesting gaming experience as well. It might not be for every Armored Core fan, but it will definitely be for some.
2. Damascus Gear: Operation Tokyo
This game offers a similar approach to Armored Core in that it is a mech-heavy game with plenty of options for customisation and improvement. The improved HD graphics are a nice touch, and you can easily build your own gear to take into battle and reclaim the world that has been lost.
Like most games of this type, it tends to be half-cheese and half-quality. It has a great system and aesthetic, but some of the writing can be a little bland. Aside from that, you may find that this hack-and-slash title offers the insanity, pace, and combat enjoyment that many are looking for when trying to scratch that Armored Core itch.
3. Front Mission Evolved
Though over a decade old now, Front Mission Evolved offers a very similar experience to Armored Core. It might not be for everyone, but it does provide you with customisation options and chances to build a quality mech that fits your specific playstyle. It's definitely worth trying out and experimenting.
It has an interesting enough story. The high-quality battles ensure you'll never feel like you're missing out on the action, unlike many other mech games on the market. This game is all about intense battles, engaging combat, and a story that is interesting enough to keep you playing. It shows its age, but it's definitely worth trying.
4. Vox Machinae
This intriguing game puts you in the comfortable cockpit of a mech that stands tall among even the largest of known animals and predators. You'll be able to play in both VR and normal combat modes. If you want to try out a mech experience in a VR headset, we think this offers one of the most enjoyable experiences for VR combat sims.
Sure, it lacks polish, but it’s a fun and engaging online game that forces you to quickly get used to its quirky combat system. Once you get over the learning curve, Vox Machinae is sure to be worth your time.
5. Titanfall 2
While it might not be an identical match, Titanfall 2 from Respawn offers one of the best mech combat experiences in modern gaming. It’s loaded with interesting story events and a great little tale that will have you punching the air, and yes, sobbing at the end. It’s good fun, has engaging combat, and has one of the most satisfying uses of a mech that we have seen in a modern shooter.
It’s all about giving you the chance to enjoy a wonderful story paired with a fun online shooter. Once you earn the right to try one out, the game makes great use of Titans. This is definitely, a mech game that evokes the best memories of Armored Core.
6. New Gundam Breaker
As one of the most popular mecha series of all time, Gundam Wing has many fans from across the world. The 2018 release of New Gundam Breaker gives you the chance to set yourself into the cockpit of a mech and enjoy the experience like never before.
You're able to build a bespoke Gundam and take on enemies to build the best Gundam possible. However, it is also possible to link up with friends and collect Gunpla parts to help in building the ideal model. While it lacks the Armored Core style in some ways, it's another fun mech game.
7. Into the Breach
Though this game has more in common with movies like Pacific Rim, it offers the mech fantasy that Armored Core promises. It’s great fun, offering a turn-based game that forces you to fight back against the Kaiju—that more or less always win. You need to try pushing forward, though, choosing to essentially go back in time to avoid losing everything.
It’s great fun, has engaging combat, and comes with some of the best strategy gaming that you will find out there on PC today. Into the Breach offers a highly engaging combat system paired with a great character progression system, ensuring you enjoy its engaging story without having to actually command the mech.
Without a doubt, Chromehounds offers a similar experience to Armored Core. It has a lot of style and manages to put together a nice modernisation on some of the old systems that have aged less gracefully. The game is also made by FromSoftware, so it has plenty of creative usage from its other IP!
It’s a fun game that is packed with action and intrigue. It also has a lot of planning involved, which many users enjoy as it makes you have to think a bit clearer about what is happening and why. It’s definitely the kind of game that an Armored Core fan will love, providing you with ample objectives and challenges to overcome.
The second to last game on our list is the granddaddy of mech combat—MechWarrior. It’s a good, enjoyable reboot of the popular series from back in the day and takes you back to the universe of BattleTech for some pretty stellar fun and enjoyment. You take control of a mech that you can improve and customise as much as you want as time goes on. It helps to build a mech that fits the playstyle you feel most comfortable with.
Though it might not be quite as good as the best Armored Core titles, the most modern iteration from the MechWarrior series is worth trying out if you want that mech combat fix.
10. Daemon X Machina
We have saved the best until last. Daemon X Machina is the best game if you want an Armored Core experience. This is a game that is absolutely bursting with personality. It's a third-person shooter that you'll enjoy more or less every moment of the experience. Essentially, the story revolves around the idea that all AI tech turns against humanity after energy is released due to a planetary collision.
You take control of an Outer, a pilot who wants to take on the rogue AI and bring back peace and normality. You create a character, fly off in your giant mech, and use your mech to complete missions, story events, and challenges. It has many similarities to Armored Core, which should make it pretty easy for you to enjoy.
