Eggman's Badniks

Dr. Eggman isn't as physically adept as Sonic (although he's surprisingly fast himself), so he combats his nemesis with his army of "badniks", pretty much evil robots. These guys range from lowly dime-a-dozen baddies to one-of-a-kind super robots able to give Sonic a run for his money.

Throughout the decades, we've seen several fearsome badniks across all types of media—which reign supreme? These are the ten strongest Eggman robots throughout Sonic the Hedgehog! Spoilers ahead.

Egg Salamander

Egg Salamander

10. Egg Salamander

Game: Sonic Rush

The final boss that both Sonic and Blaze face was constructed by Dr. Eggman and his descendent, Eggman Nega. Its massive power stems from having drained the seven Sol Emeralds, allowing it to battle the likes of Super Sonic and Burning Blaze.

That said, Egg Salamander ranks lower because Eggman had help making it and, strong as it is, it needs a pilot to operate.

E-102 Gamma

E-102 Gamma

9. E-102 Gamma

Game: Sonic Adventure

Gamma's status as a playable character was a surprising but welcome addition to the large cast in Sonic Adventure, and his arc of taking down his robotic "brothers" to free them from Eggman's control tore at our heartstrings.

Gamma's no slouch in battle, wielding a machine gun, missile launcher, and jetpack to outgun and outmaneuver foes. Despite other robots in the E-series supposedly being stronger, Gamma manages to take down his brethren, suggesting his evolving sense of self influenced his power.

Yellow Shadow Android

Yellow Shadow Android

8. Shadow Android

Game: Sonic Heroes

After Shadow the Hedgehog's supposed death in Sonic Adventure 2, he was found alive in Heroes, where we also saw numerous android copies created by Eggman. These would see usage in Shadow's own game Shadow the Hedgehog, supposedly bearing the same abilities as Shadow, albeit slightly weaker.

Still, holding even a fraction of the ultimate life-form's power makes the androids formidable combatants in their own right.

Metal Knuckles

Metal Knuckles

7. Metal Knuckles

Game: Sonic R

An often-forgotten character due to his scarcity, Metal Knuckles debuted in Sonic R, though the game's focus on racing left his combat prowess uncertain. But judging by Fleetway comic's Knuckles Metallix, seen in Sonic the Comic, Metal Knuckles is an overwhelming combat ace, easily defeating Sonic in their fight.

Master Core: ABIS

Master Core: ABIS

6. Master Core: ABIS

Game: Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity

The final and only boss in racing game Zero Gravity, ABIS is the upgraded form of SCR-HD, having fused with the energies of the Arks of the Cosmos. Able to manipulate gravity, fly, and fire energy bursts, and was only defeated after Sonic and company managed to use its own black hole against it.

Phantom King

Phantom King

5. Phantom King

Game: Sonic Mania

Eggman's narcissism shows itself with the design of this robot, and like its creator, the Phantom King proves treacherous, turning on Eggman to steal control of the powerful Phantom Ruby.

Eggman (piloting his Kleptomobile) and Super Sonic both face the Phantom King separately, and although Sonic ultimately destroys it, its ability to compete with his super form proves its strength.

E-123 Omega

E-123 Omega

4. E-123 Omega

Game: Sonic Heroes

The final design from the E-series, Omega has often been called the world's strongest robot. Wielding even more weapons than Gamma, Omega bears twin machine guns, flamethrowers, missiles, and more.

Omega's strength has been repeatedly proven, from battling Shadow to a draw to overcoming Mephiles.

Silver Sonic v3.0

Silver Sonic v3.0

3. Silver Sonic v3.0

Comic: Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie)

Not to be confused with Metal Sonic or Silver the Hedgehog, Silver Sonic only appears in a few comics, but wields enough strength and speed to rival Sonic himself, also bearing bulletproof armor.

Gauging Silver's exact power is tricky with his limited participation in battle, but he fought Sonic to a standstill before reinforcement gave the blue hedgehog some assistance.

Shard the Metal Sonic

Shard the Metal Sonic

2. Shard the Metal Sonic

Comic: Sonic a

Originally an older Metal Sonic that gradually gained free will, Shard eventually decided to join Sonic's team and combat Eggman. Shard's final form was created using parts of the fallen Metal Sonic and Metal Scourge, and he's taken down formidable opponents like Knuckles.

Hyper Metal Sonic

Hyper Metal Sonic

1. Hyper Metal Sonic

Film: Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie

Arguably the strongest version of the numerous Metal and Mecha Sonics we've ever encountered, Hyper Metal easily outclasses Sonic in their climatic bout, being one of few models to outright conquer his namesake. The two also share a unique mental bond that lets them read each other's minds; fortunately, this implemented some of Sonic's nobility within Metal, leading him to sacrifice himself for the greater good.

More Eggman Robots

With hundreds of badniks from all kinds of media, narrowing today's list to just ten wasn't easy, with powerful robots like the Death Queen and G-merl narrowly missing the cut. We'll see what devious bots Eggman invents in upcoming games, but for now, vote for your favorite and I'll see you at our next Sonic the Hedgehog countdown!
