A Review of the Lenovo Legion Y530

Gamers need a machine (computer) that is reliable. That said; some of the best laptops out there are way too expensive and thus not affordable to many. However, there are actually some great, affordable laptops that many gamers would love. The Lenovo Legion Y530, in my opinion, is one of the best budget laptops for gaming—and of course for other purposes.

One of the most impressive aspects of the laptop is its design. The Lenovo Y530 is without a doubt one of the best looking machines for its price. The thin bezel around the screen (on the three sides) is one of the features that immediately caught my attention. This allows for a wider screen (15-15.6 Inch) that gamers absolutely love: I love wider/bigger screens while gaming, and so does everyone else, I guess. It is also more compact and thus very portable for its size which is an added advantage for those who like traveling a lot. This may not matter much, but I also like the little lighting on the logo (in the letter "O"). Not sure why, but I find it to be so cool.

*When open, the screen can go all the way to the back, if you like that kind of thing.

Other Features

Most of the ports (with an audio jack and USB port on the sides) of the Lenovo Legion Y530 are located at the extended back of the laptop which is a nice touch. It's particularly awesome when you don't like too many adapters and other cables running from the sides. Personally, I find this very convenient. Ports aside, the Lenovo Legion Y530 comes with Harman speakers (Dolby Audio). Gamers can then be assured of good quality sound. The soft touch material on the inside also has a great feel while using the laptop which is another plus in my opinion.

The array of ports and connectors located at the back include:

  • The Kensington Lock slot
  • USB Type-C port
  • Ac adaptor port
  • Mini DP port
  • RJ-45 port
  • USB 3.0 port
  • HDMI port

Features:

  • Soft touch material on the inside
  • Harman speakers - With Dolby audio (no base)
  • A big screen with very thin bezels - over 2 million pixels and 144 HZ refresh rate
  • Cool keyboard layout –with a backlit high response keyboard
  • A color accurate screen
  • A nose cam
  • Fans are not too loud (individual CPU and GPU cooling) - It comes with 70 individual fan blades per channel that significantly reduce the noise
  • Intel’s high-performance 8th Gen Intel® Core™ mobile processors

Specs

Now that we've looked at the general overview of the Lenovo Legion Y530, it important to look at what lies beneath the surface. Some of the important aspects of the laptop include:

  • Intel Core i5-8300H
  • 8GB DDR4-2666 RAM
  • 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD Storage space
  • 3-cell 52.5 Whr Battery - 52 and a half watt-hour battery (lasts for about 4 and a half hours)

While these may not sound like the perfect aspects of a gaming laptop, they are fairly decent for the casual gamer and will serve the purpose.

A Reliable Laptop With All of the Essentials

For its price range, the Lenovo Legion Y530 is a great laptop that has been designed to meet the essential needs of a gamer. Some people have raised concerns regarding the colors and webcam placement, but overall, it’s a pretty neat machine if you are looking for good performance and a cool look. Games like Battlefield 5 and Black Ops 4 will run smoothly so you have nothing to worry about. It's definitely worth checking out.

What Has Been Your Experience?

There are many budget laptops in the market. However, not all can meet the needs of a casual gamer. In this article, I discussed aspects of a laptop that I have been using for several months now. It has not yet let me down despite using it for several hours a week. That said, I would like to hear about your experience with the laptop and what you like most about it. You can also share which budget gaming laptop you have been using and your experience thus far. It’s always great to learn from the experience of others.
