Playing video games as a couple is a great way to spend time together and have some quality fun. Some people think that playing video games is a solitary activity—but as most gamers know, there are plenty of titles out there that encourage teamwork. Below is my list of games that my girlfriend and I think make for great multiplayer fun on the PlayStation 3.

Best PS3 Games to Play as a Couple

  1. Rayman Origins
  2. The Uncharted Series
  3. Resident Evil 5
  4. Little Big Planet 2

The games on this list have basic controls and are pretty easy to learn, so don't worry if you're new to console gaming. I believe that anyone can play these games and really make the most of the opportunity to bond with whoever they are playing with.

All the games in this list have the option to be played by two players or more—with either a shared or split-screen. (Also, they all have offline co-op.)

1. Rayman Origins

Rayman Origins is a platformer similar to series such as Little Big Planet or Super Mario. You can play every level with up to four players in co-op mode (not split-screen).

The fact that you can play the entire game with a friend makes it so much more fun. It's very easy for someone to join in at any level. There isn't a lot of teamwork, except for the Boss fights and the levels where you can fly. Despite this, it's still extremely rewarding to reach the goal together.

The game starts off relatively easy, but the difficulty definitely rises as you progress. The special challenges in online-mode can be a challenge as well, even for the most experienced gamer. The art in the game is hand-drawn and looks very unique, which you can see for yourself in the trailer below.

Altogether, it's a great PS3 game to play together as a couple.

2. The Uncharted Series

There are three Uncharted games. I am only familiar with Uncharted 2 and 3, but I hear that the first game is a lot of fun, too. In Uncharted, you can't play the whole single-player campaign in co-op mode, but there are still some great co-op opportunities available!

It's possible to play split-screen, both online with other players, and offline with a friend. Both options are great fun, but if you're playing online, things can get tough. You can choose to play against each other in a team deathmatch, or you can play against a huge army of CPU enemies. The latter is my girlfriend's and my personal favorite game mode. This game mode demands that you work together as a team, and includes intense action and a lot of screaming!

Oh, and let's not forget how amazing the single-player story mode is! Uncharted 3 is one of the best games for the PS3, if you ask me.

3. Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 is yet another game where the developers really thought about the co-op mode and understood that playing together is an important part of gaming. In fact, you can play the whole game with a two-player split-screen (both online and offline).

The Resident Evil series falls under the survival horror genre. That means you will find yourself in several frightening and tricky situations where you and your partner need to work together to survive. The game can be a bit scary, so I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone who doesn't like scary movies. That being said, it has the same level of goofiness and bad acting as a crappy horror movie on TV—so it is, by no means, too intense.

The game doesn't have the best story, and the voice acting could also use some work. Despite its flaws, this is still a fantastic game. The epic action and intense boss fights are what make the game awesome. You can feel that you have to work together to succeed, and when you do so as a team in Resident Evil 5, it's incredibly rewarding. So go kill those zombies!

4. Little Big Planet 2

This is another platform adventure game. The gameplay is similar to Super Mario and Rayman, but it is in a category of its own! It is set in a creative and unique world that looks handmade. Everywhere you look, you will find items and stickers that can be used to decorate your character. The gameplay is very versatile for a platform game. It's difficult to get bored because the level design differs in every stage. You can even create your own stages or play one of the hundreds of thousands of stages that people have made all over the world. There's no shortage of content in this fantastic game.

You can play this game with up to four players at once on the same screen, both offline and online. It's a perfect game to play together as a couple or with friends, especially among people with a variety of skill levels. The game controls are very basic and easy to learn, so even the most inexperienced gamer will learn the controls and master the game pretty quickly. But of course, the game gets harder and harder the more you play. In the last 10 stages or so, it can be really challenging (but fun)!

Little Big Planet 2 is a must for anyone who owns a PS3. My girlfriend and I have played this game for hours and hours. The game is a few years old now, so it's really cheap. You can also check out Little Big Planet 1, the first game in the series. It's almost as fun as the second installment, so I would definitely recommend checking both games out. (And the first game is even cheaper than the second!)

Level up Your Relationship

By overcoming challenges, solving puzzles, and defeating bosses, playing video games as a couple can be extremely rewarding. You can make your relationship stronger and have fun doing it, so what are you waiting for? Pick up your controllers and get playing!
