How to Upgrade the Staves in Origins - "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Zombies"

The staves are strong weapons that use the power of elements. But, they become less effective as you reach round 20. Upgrading the staves makes them the most powerful weapons every available in Call of Duty Zombies. They also gain the ability to be charged and their ammo and magazine size doubles.

East Staff requires multiple steps in order to become upgraded. Most of the steps are the same for each staff, but they also have two steps that are specific for each staff. This guide will explain the shared steps in detail. Each staff also has an upgrade guide, which will explain the staff specific steps.

The Steps:

  1. Build The staves
  2. Equip a staff
  3. Crazy Room Step
  4. Element Step
  5. Release The Orb
  6. Charge The staff
  7. Equip The staff

1. Build the Staves

In order to upgrade a staff, all four staves must first be built. The rest of the steps can be done without only one staff, with all the staves, or any combination of the staves. If you are unsure on how to build the staves, follow the link below to the guide for building that staff.

2. Equip a Staff

Select the staff that you would like to upgrade. The staves are located in the hidden room at the bottom of the Excavation Site. A player can only equip one staff at a time, but multiple players can upgrade their staves at the same time.

3. Crazy Room Step

I call this step the Crazy Room Step because it is completed in that room. The Crazy Room is the room that held the crystals needed for building the staves. Each staff has its own step in this room. For each step you will need to have the staff you are upgrading equipped. The links below will bring you to the guide for completing the staff specific task.

4. Element Step

This is the second and final staff specific task. I call this the "Element Step" because the element used in each step is related to the element of the staff. Just like in step 3, you will need to have the staff you are upgrading equipped. The links in step 3 will bring you to the staff specific guides, which cover both step 3 and step 4 for each staff.

5. Release the Orb

Once the Element Step is complete, an orb will appear in the hidden area of the Excavation Site. At the bottom of the Excavation Site there are four objects that look like stone gears. Each of these stone gears has for knobs with what looks like a Gem on the end. The orb is below those gears and must be released. In order to be released all of the gears must show the same color gem as the staff element color.

There are four switches located in this room. Two are on the cement steps and two are on the wooden walkways. The two on the cement steps control the top two stone objects. The switches on the wooden walkways control the bottom two objects. I added numbers to the pictures on the right. The objects have red numbers and the switches have green numbers. Switch number one controls object number one, and so on.

Approach a switch and press your action button. One of the four objects will rotate, and the gem will change colors. Continue to press your action button until all for of these objects have the same gem color as you staff.

When all of the colors are correct, shoot the Orb below the cement objects with your staff. It will make a noise and shoot up into the air.

As you kill the Templar Zombies, their spirits will enter your staff.

6. Charge the Staff

When the Orb is released it moves to the Crazy Room and into the platform that once held your crystal. Go back into the crazy room and place your staff into the platform that once had the crystal used in creating your staff.

Templar Zombies will appear in this area instead of zombies. You will need to kill Templar Zombies near the staff in order to charge it with their "spirits." This will normally take an entire round. If you were holding a zombie, you will need to kill it. The Templar Zombies will only appear if zombies are able to spawn.

All four players can charge their staves at the same time. This could take longer, since the "spirits" will be entering four staves instead of one. We charged two staves at a time in a two player game. This allowed us to equip the other two staves, which made killing the Templar Zombies even easier.

When this step is complete Samantha will talk. She will tell you that you now possess the power of...the element your staff controls.

7. Equip the Staff

After Samantha talks, approach your staff. An option to equip it should appear on your screen. Press your action button to equip the staff.

You don't really have to build all staffs first, but otherwise it helps a lot! Just got Ull's Arrow (Upgraded Ice Staff), it's awesome! On pause, hopefully I'll get far
