Canted Sight Guide

How the Canted Sight Works

Weapons now have a secondary scope slot that can hold a Canted Sight should you find one. Canted Sights are fairly common to find, so they won't be particularly inaccessible. They seem to be comparable to a Red Dot or Holographic Sight. This Canted Sight is like a Red Dot Sight in that it has a very similar reticle. The Canted Sight can go into the primary scope slot as your default scope in addition to the new secondary scope slot, however the Canted Sight is the only scope that can go into the secondary slot so you won't be able to run other combinations such as a Red Dot and a 2x scope.

The rules for equipping Canted Sights have been highlighted by Bluehole as:

  • If you equip the Canted Sight only, your primary sight will be the Canted Sight.
  • If you equip the Canted Sight after a scope, your primary sight will be your scope.
  • If you equip a Scope after a Canted Sight, your primary sight will be the Canted Sight.

What Guns Can Hold a Canted Sight

Not every weapon has a secondary scope slot, so below is a list of weapons that do have one and can hold a Canted Sight.

  • Assault Rifle
    Beryl M762
  • Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR)
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Sub Machine Gun (SMG)
  • Shotgun
  • Light Machine Gun (LMG)

Canted Sight Strategies

The obvious use of a Canted Sight is to be prepared for both short range and long range fights at the same time without having to hot swap or have a red dot take up inventory space. Consider a few scenarios where I believe they would be most useful:

  • Canted Sight + 4x / 6x Scope on M416
Both these assault rifles can act as decent DMR or Sniper Rifles if the situation calls for it. However, they are also likely your short/mid range option as well so rather than hot swapping back and forth you can now toggle.
  • Canted Sight + 4x / 6x Scope on SKS/Mini/SLR
Similar to above. While DMRs aren't great for short range, it can be useful to keep a Canted Sight on hand in case you get surprised and need to fight in short/mid range where your scope is overkill.
  • Canted Sight + 2x on an assault rifle
A finer detail that many aren't aware of is that Canted Sights / Red Dots / Holographic Sights actually increase your ADS (aim down sight) speed. In certain situations you may want to use ADS, but may not need the benefit of a 2x zoom, and would benefit from the increased ADS offered by the Canted Sight.
  • Canted Sight + Sniper Rifle
Generally it would be terrible to bother taking red dot shots with a Kar98k or an M24 and perhaps this really isn't a useful strategy. However, when in a pinch, it could be the difference between hitting or not.

Overall this isn't exactly a game changer, it's simply a convenience for people to save inventory space and effort in hot swapping sights. I personally feel like it's meaningful and I'm happy to have it, but that's about it.

However, I would add that the fact the M16A4 cannot take a Canted Sight is very unfortunate. The M16A4 is basically a sniper rifle in terms of its stats and would benefit greatly from equipping 2 sights and was one of the key reasons I was personally looking forward to Canted Sights. It almost seems like an indirect nerf of the weapon.
