"Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – Zombies": Time Bomb in Buried

Outside of my day job as a project manager for a construction company, I am an avid gamer with a great passion for "Call of Duty."

The Time Bomb is one of the most exciting weapons included in Buried, Resolution 1275.

When first seeing this weapon you might think it is going to be a bomb with a timer. However, it is actually a device that allows you to go back in time. Essentially it is setting a save point that you can return to if you choose.

In this guide we will discuss:

  • How to get the Time Bomb
  • How to use the Time Bomb
  • Indicators in the heads up display
  • Strategies for using the Time Bomb
  • What you need to know

How to Get the Time Bomb

Unfortunately, the only way to acquire the time bomb is to get it randomly out of the box. Only one player in the game can have the Time Bomb. It takes the place of your secondary grenade, so picking up Monkeys will result in losing your Time Bomb.

How to Use the Time Bomb

The Time Bomb takes the place of your secondary grenade but is not used in the same manner. In order to deploy the Time Bomb, you will press down on your D-Pad. When you do this you will be holding the Time Bomb in your left hand and the trigger in your right hand. If you already set the Time Bomb you will only be holding the trigger in your right hand.

Setting the Time Bomb

  1. Press down on your D-Pad
  2. Press your secondary Grenade Button

As soon as the time bomb lands that exact moment in the game is "saved."

Activating the Time Bomb

  1. Press down on your D-Pad
  2. Press your trigger button.

As soon as you press the trigger button the screen will start to get distorted, similar to a dream sequence in a movie.

All the players and zombies will appear in the exact location they were in when you set the bomb.

You will have the weapons, ammo, perks, points, and equipment that you had when you set the bomb.

Resetting the Time Bomb

You can only reset the Time Bomb by setting a new bomb. Since you only have one bomb at a time you will need to pick up a Max Ammo. When you throw a new bomb the previous bomb will disappear and be irrelevant. The new "save" moment will be the exact time you threw the second bomb.

This will help you remember what round you set the Time Bomb.

This will help you remember what round you set the Time Bomb.

Indicators on the Heads Up Display

There are two indicators on the heads-up display that will provide you information about your Time Bomb. By checking these indicators you can see if you currently have any in your inventory and what round you will revert to if the bomb is activated.

1. Bomb Inventory

On the bottom right hands side of your heads up display there is an object that looks like a compass. It has a circle in the middle and arrows pointing up, down, left, and right. This will indicate the equipment that can be accessed using your D-pad.

If you have Time Bombs, you will see a picture of the Time Bomb below the down arrow. This picture has a large white number on it, that number indicates the amount of Time Bombs you currently have.

2. Round Indicator

When you set a Time Bomb a white and black circle will appear on your heads up display between your Perk Icons and the current round indicator. This circle will have a number inside it. That number is the round in which you set the bomb, which is the round you will revert to if you trigger the bomb.

Tips For Using The Time Bomb

The Time Bomb can be very effective if used properly. But if used improperly it could end up giving you one extra down or even irritating the other players in the game.

Tip 1: The Proper Setup

You do not want to set your time bomb when you are pinned down or the last person standing. When you activate the bomb you will just be going back into that bad situation.

Try to set your Time Bomb at the end of a round, when there are only a few zombies or a crawler remaining. The best way is to have the Giant carry the last crawler and then trigger the bomb. This will give your team time to regroup if the bomb is activated.

Tip 2: Reset as Often as Possible

When you get a Max Ammo, look for a good opportunity to reset the bomb. This will limit the need to restart at a much earlier round.

Tip 3: Get the Team's Approval

Unless it is a dire emergency, let the team know you are going to activate the bomb. A player might dashboard if you don't give them a chance to give input before you activate the bomb, this could result in the end of the game.

Tip 4: Have a Second Chance at a Hard Task

When we were getting the achievement for surviving in the maze past round 20 we decided to set a Time Bomb right before we attempted it. We completed it on the first attempt, but if we failed we would have had a second chance.

What You Need to Know

Neil on April 24, 2018:

Power-Ups, Doors Bought, Weapons Drawn, and Equipment placed is not effected by a Time Bomb..... meaning I cannot lose any pap guns when someone used it. Also it's been fixed a while back

yeah whatever andrew more like maybe half of that world record is 80 i doubt your even close unless u mod which takes no skill

andrew on August 21, 2014:

I placed on round 1 and got to round 100 then i reset the thing

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on August 28, 2013:

It will bring you back to round 38 before he died. He will still be alive, but the down will still count on his stats.

alex on August 27, 2013:

can the time bomb be used to bring players back from the dead e.g, round 40 my friend died, time bomb was put down on round 38 if we activate it will it bring him back?

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on August 07, 2013:

When you use the Time Bomb the points you currently have and the points in the bank will revert back to the amounts that were there when the bomb was placed.

The only way to keep the points it to turn them into a 'Bonus Points' Power-Up in the bank after you set your time bomb, then activate your bomb and pick up the Power-Up.

Jt on August 06, 2013:

If you store points while the time bomb is set, does it reset the stored points once you actually use it?

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on August 05, 2013:

No, only the player that has the Time Bomb can activate it, and only one player can have the Time Bomb in a game.

Excentric_Loner on August 05, 2013:

Can you use the time bomb while the player who has it, is down?

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on August 05, 2013:

Awesome, That Guy is correct. When you activate a Time Bomb you revert to the amount of points you had at the time you placed the Time Bomb. Power-Ups, Doors Bought, Weapons Drawn, and Equipment placed is not effected by a Time Bomb. So If you place a time bomb, then create a 'Bonus Points' Power-UP, and then activate your Time Bomb - Your Points will revert back and the Power-Up will remain (Doubles Your Points).

That Guy on August 03, 2013:

If you set the bomb, put all points in bank then activate then all the points will be taken from the bank as well. However, if you place the bomb, use the galvaknuckles to activate the "give money" option then put it all into the one powerup, activate the time bomb, you will go back to having all your points and the powerup with all the points you put into it will still be there so you can pick it up.

Awesome on August 02, 2013:

Hey if u deposit ur points in the bank, then u activate the time bomb and u get all of ur points back before u deposited and then u deposit them again. Do they stack up or does the amount u added when u were in the future simply disappear?

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on July 13, 2013:

Thanks A,

I actually forgot all about QED Grenades. I wasn't a big fan of the Moon, so I only played it a couple of times.

Unfortunately I can't edit the poll now, or it will erase all the votes.

A on July 13, 2013:

They left out QED grenades in the poll

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on July 12, 2013:

It is great in solo, but makes for some tough decisions. Do I go back 5 rounds, or accept losing my perks.

Anonymous on July 11, 2013:

The Time Bomb would be good for solo, like using it before you lose a revive, but not so great in multiplayer.

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on July 11, 2013:

I agree that it can be used in a way that could destroy a game. This is likely to become a favorite 'Troll' method for those that like to Troll. But it can also be a great way to make it to high rounds. With a good team it only gets used when it makes sense for the entire team. This can reset the type of mistake that would normally end a game.

Dunno why they added the Time Bomb, its 10 times worse than EMP Grenades. At least the worst EMP Grenades can do is take away a person's pack-a-punch weapon before they get it. While the time bomb can wipe everyone's progress clean, like say a person got a time bomb on round 3, and left it there. Now its round 38 where everyone got perks, pack-a-punch Paralyzer, Ray Gun Mark ll, huge amounts of points, etc. Then guy sets off time bomb. Everyone gets sent back to round 3. They now have a useless M1911 and barely enough points to get something from the mystery box, plus no perks. This is what's stopping me from buying the map pack with Buried in it.
