Upgrade the Galvaknuckles in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2" – Zombies

Outside of my day job as a project manager for a construction company, I am an avid gamer with a great passion for "Call of Duty."

The Galvaknuckles have quickly become my favorite weapon, despite their high cost. So, after I heard the rumor about upgrading them, I was both intrigued and skeptical. Rumors such as this are commonly spread as a hoax. I didn't get my hopes up. Even if it could be done, it would be just another glitch, and I don't like using glitches. However, I had to try it once in order to see if it actually worked.

I was surprised when it actually did work. But I was even more surprised when I saw that it had a new name. This has convinced me that it is not a glitch, but instead was intentionally added to the game. This weapon is hard to acquire and has not been explored much. However, it was put in the game for a reason, and I don't think anyone has figured out everything that it can do yet. Maybe you can unlock the secrets it harbors. Follow these steps to get your very own upgraded knuckles.

Before You Start

Make Sure you:

  • Keep your M1911
  • Do not pick up any other guns
  • Do not have anything in the Refrigirator

You Need to Know How To:

  • Build a Turbine
  • Turn on the Power
  • Get Galvaknuckles
  • Open and Build Pack-A-Punch
  • Put a weapon in the Refrigerator

Step 1: Buy the Galvaknuckles

You can find the Galvaknuckles on top of the diner. You will need the hatch in order to access the knuckles.

Step 2: Upgrade the M1911

In order to complete this step, you will need to build the turbine first. Next you will need to open the Pack-A-Punch room and build the Pack-A-Punch machine.

Step 3: Put Mustang and Sally in the Refrigerator

Your M1911 will become Mustang and Sally. After you put them away, you should not be holding any guns. Do not pick up a gun or this will not work.

Step 4: Upgrade the Galvaknuckles

The option to Pack-A-Punch a weapon appears on the screen even though you are not holding a gun. If you press the indicated button, your Galvaknuckles will go into the machine and come out upgraded.

Now you will be able to punch by pushing the trigger button. Your punch will be faster than it previously was. However, you will no longer have the ability to sprint. If you pick up a gun, you will be able to sprint again, but you will lose your quick punch.

Please Note: I tried to Pack-A-Punch these weapons a second time. It seemed to work, but after I took the weapon, I could no longer punch. The other player in the game killed the last zombie, and I started the round without the ability to sprint, without a gun, and without the ability to Melee. I had to leave town to get a gun, but died in the fog since I could not punch the fog creature off my head.

I don't know if it works on my Xbox, I haven't tried it. But based upon the other comments about it doesn't work on Xbox(I have xbox)I'm not trying it. It looks fake and I agree that the pack a punch(ed) name is kind of stupid. I'm really not trying to be mean but......it looks fake

secrets on June 02, 2014:

does it work with the knife

Anonymous on March 17, 2014:

It's a glitch. "ZOMBIE_TAZER_KNUCKLES" is probably what the coding refers to the Galvaknuckles as. The pack-a-Punch also probably has a coding that increases the weapons stuff by a specific % if it doesn't have a specific weapon that it turns into after upgrading.

Zombiekilla on December 24, 2013:

Imana try this cz am curious despite the comments but I wonder if this works for the map Buried since you have basically the same basics to do it

whatmqn on October 19, 2013:

to those who say it is wrong that he cannot do it on round 1 , WRONG! he uses money he put in the bank to get all that stuff

AnnoyingOn3, I have better things to do than troll. I would agree with Idiots (the person that commented above you) that this was a glitch, since it was patched and there was no special abilities (punching faster the exception).

Upgrading the Galvaknuckles was just something that was fun to do, like an Easter Egg. It didn't do much before, and does nothing now, because it is patched.

AnnoyingOn3 on July 10, 2013:

The devs wouldn't name them such a dumb name and the underscores would NEVER be added. The devs at Treyarch always make sure to give their pack-a-punch'd weapons fun or creative names. Please stop making a fool of yourself in some idiotic attempt to troll stupid kids.

Idiots on June 25, 2013:

These are not "Pack-a-punched" Galvaknuckles. There was a glitch whereby if you purchased Galvaknuckles, whilst having no other weapons equipped, the Galvaknuckles had a different name. They still had the same damage, and same use.

Look at the Name of the Upgraded Knuckles. Haha.

I pulled money from the Bank and did everything on round 1. This was real before the patch.

David on April 07, 2013:

It's fake. The pictures even show that he's on round 1 the entire time but has enough points to upgrade and get four perks?

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on March 18, 2013:

They patched it.

Doesn't work on Xbox or ps3. Tried it. FAKE

Edward D. Saterstad (author) from PA on February 15, 2013:

No, you need to use the refrigerator, and there is not one in town. I tried it in Nuketown by putting my weapons in the Pack-A-Punch and not taking them back out - so that I would have no weapon. It did not work.

Andrew G on February 13, 2013:

Does this work on town? I tried it but I couldn't upgrade it.
