1. The Escapists: Walking Dead Edition
If you never played the original The Escapists, it was a game about escaping from jail. The Walking Dead crossover they did, though, is one of the best zombie survival games out there. You will be forced to try and survive in the world as you take on the role of Rick Grimes and try to make it to the next day.
It’s a tough game, but it offers ample cooperative fun, plenty of combat with zombies, and enough crafting and survival mechanics to keep you on your toes. Definitely, a game that we would highly recommend you look to try out if you want something a little bit different from the 7 Days to Die formula.
If you are looking for a classic survival zombie game, then H1Z1 is absolutely worth giving your time to. This interesting game makes you have to be cut-throat and vicious at times, forcing you to protect yourself and your few allies from zombies, from other players, and many other issues.
It’s a classic zombie survival game in that you are expected to explore, scavenge, survive, and basically do anything you can to make it from one day until the next. Sure, it lacks polish in many places, but most of these titles do tend to have limits visually or thematically.
It is, though, a fun experience that can be enjoyable enough when playing co-operatively with other players, including friends.

If you like your zombie games to come with plenty of fast-paced action, then you might wish to give Dying Light a shot. This is an intriguing game that has you living in a world that is totally overrun by zombies in more or less every location. You run through a city that is littered with them, and you need to try and find supplies, build weaponry, and fight back against the hordes when the opportunity arises.
It’s a tough game, one with plenty of engaging combat, and the need to always be on your toes. While it will not be for some fans of 7 Days to Die, it’s definitely a game to think about trying.
4. Night of the Dead
Popular wave survival game Night of the Dead has you building up defences and structures to try and keep yourself alive each evening when the zombies come to attack. It forces you to work hard, to build quickly, and to be ready for plenty of combat when the zombies come along. It’s got a strong sandbox feel and plenty of things to use if you want to try and hold off the hordes. Generally, though, it offers enough zombie-slaying action to keep you entertained for many an hour.
5. The Forest
Where The Forest tends to differ from other games in the list is that it is not strictly going to be zombies that you are up against. However, it is a very fun co-op survival game that forces you to think fast, be smart, and take decisive action when it is needed most.
The game itself can be a bit of a drain at times, especially in the early hours, but you will eventually get to grips with its challenging gameplay loop. If you enjoy the horror aspect and the eerie atmosphere then you should have no problem at all in engaging with this fun and satisfying horror game. It’s definitely one that we would recommend you make time to try out if you fancy something a little bit different.
Popular survival and building game Rust tends to be quite different from many of the games on our list, but it is absolutely one we would recommend trying. It has many similarities with 7 Days to Die in ways you might not expect. While it again might not be littered with zombies, it forces you to be smart and swift about how you try and survive.

One of the most intriguing things about Hunt: Showdown is that it tends to put you in a position where survival feels impossible. Sure, you won’t be fighting zombies, but you’ll have to utilise an array of special powers and techniques to overcome your opponents.

Some find it to be quite slow paced, while others enjoy the simple enough gameplay style that allows you to focus on one thing.
It’s a tough game to get used to and should definitely be played with friends, though. Keep that in mind as you go forward and you should have a pretty spectacular time when it comes to this zombie-thon that’s similar enough to 7 Days to Die to scratch that itch.
10. State of Decay 2
Another great title to look into for your own choice would be State of Decay 2. The original game was a zombie survival community-building masterpiece that was a little rough around the edges. Its expansion added some nifty features, including multiplayer co-op and more interactions with other survivor groups.
It might not have everything that you want, and it lacks the mod support of the original, but it has more than enough features worth trying out and seeing for yourself what they offer. Definitely, one to add to your list of games to try out – even more so if you intend on playing with friends together.
