Anurag loves playing video games. His guides and listicles revolve around popular iOS, Android, PC and console games.

From kids to office-goers, everyone is addicted to Facebook games. These fun social games have an easy learning curve and do not require any app downloads. All gamers need is a good browser, a Flash player and a fast Internet connection. Social games may request permission to access your basic profile, send email and may also post on your behalf. Once you give permission, you can start playing a game. However, it’s this additional functionality that can sometimes be a bit irritating and unnecessary.

As we all know, Facebook game apps access your basic information, such as user-ID, list of friends, email address and profile picture. They also send new game updates via email and post our high scores, achievements unlocked on our wall.

While sending emails and accessing our basic information is acceptable to many players, posting updates on their behalf can be a little annoying. There are many reasons for wanting to stop a game app from posting on your wall. Perhaps gamers don’t want to annoy friends, or want to hide them from their boss, just to ensure he doesn’t get to see how many hours they spend playing CityVille. Whatever be the reason, it is very easy to block a Facebook game from posting updates on your wall. Here’s how.

Step 1: Log-in to your Facebook profile. Click on the small down arrow icon just beside the Home button. Select the Privacy Settings option from the available options in the drop-down menu.

Step 2: In the Privacy Settings page, you will see various sections, such as "Timeline and Tagging", "Limit Audience for Past Posts" etc. Scroll down and click on the Edit Settings link in the Ads, Apps and Websites section. Here you can manage third-party applications and remove any unwanted apps and websites.

Step 3: In the App Settings page, you will see a list of Facebook games and third-party apps. Click on the Edit link to your right, next to the game app. The app settings section will expand a bit.

Step 4: You will see three options in the This App Can section:

  • Access Your basic Information: This is required and cannot be changed
  • Send You Email: This too is required. You cannot remove of edit it.
  • Post On Your Behalf: You can remove this option.

Step 5: Click Remove just beside the Post on Your Behalf option. Clicking on it will stop that game app from posting on your Facebook wall. Removing this option is permanent. You cannot undo it later.

Step 6: If you still want the game app to post stats and information, but want to hide all notifications from posting on your friends’ wall, select Only Me in the Posts on Your Behalf section, just below the Last Data Access section.

This is the simplest way you can stop Facebook social games from posting on your wall. Want to undo it? Well, you will have to delete the game first and then add this game on your profile if you want it to post stats and other updates.

I like this. Many people, including myself, would benefit from knowing how to prevent all those Facebook games from posting on my wall. In fact, I'd gotten so fed up with it that I refused to take part in ANY Facebook games! I did not know at all how to do step 6, either (And I'm not an old crabby 60 year old who gets nothing about technology!). Thanks for the info/aid!
