Poppy lives near Tokyo and likes to read novels and play video games, especially fantasy RPGs.

Playing video games is an awesome hobby that millions around the world enjoy. No matter your taste in genre, gameplay, or console, there is something out there for everybody. Long gone are the days where you had to go to the arcade with a pocketful of quarters to play Tetris; now it has never been easier or more affordable to enjoy all kinds of games from the comfort of your own home.

Almost all games have characters in them. Some, such as Portal and Slender, only have one or two, and others, such as Mass Effect, League of Legends, and World of Warcraft, have an enormous cast. Characters are vital to any game with a story; just like in books and movies, characters can sink their claws into you, make you laugh and cry, and greatly affect your enjoyment of a game.

It isn't unusual to develop crushes on some video game characters. When I was 16, I had an unhealthy obsession with Alistair Theirin from Dragon Age: Origins! Throughout the years of gaming, generations of players have enjoyed an enormous amount of attractive and sexy characters that can stick with us throughout playing the game and even far beyond that. You've seen the top 15 hottest males from video games; here is a list of the top 35 prettiest female characters!

Ada Wong is a character who has appeared in Resident Evil installments since 2 and most recently 6. This assassin hottie has had a variety of outfits and jobs over the course of her stories and she looks awesome in every single one. Her mysteriousness and ambiguity make her all the more enthralling.

34. Freya (God of War)

English voice actor: Danielle Bisutti
Game's year of release: 2018
Company: Santa Monica Studio

Maybe it's her flowing locks, her mysterious aura, or the fact that she takes none of Kratos' bossy attitude, but Freya is one of those characters who stick with you. A Vanir goddess who helps Kratos and Atreus on their journey, she just oozes sophistication, wisdom, and strength. It's no wonder some of us fell for her.

33. Krystal the Fox (Star Fox)

English voice actor: Estelle Ellis
Game's year of release: 2002-2007
Company: Rare

Krystal has been a character of the Star Fox games since Star Fox Adventures on the Gamecube. She has also made appearances in some of the Super Smash Bros games.

I can't be the only one to admit that Krystal was their first crush. This blue vixen may be partly responsible for the "furry" phenomenon today.

32. Humba Wumba (Banjo-Tooie)

Banjo-Kazooie fans were thrilled to hear that the iconic bear and bird duo are entering Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as fighters. Many remember the sequel to the first game, Banjo-Tooie, and the fun characters it offered. Mumba-Wumba is one of them; she's a magic-wielding lady who appears on various levels to transform Banjo and Kazooie to help them collect jigsaw pieces.

This cute magician is a definite hottie!

Add a mysterious past and a massive sword, and you've got a recipe for an unforgettable Final Fantasy warrior.

29. Morrigan (Dragon Age)

English voice actor: Claudia Black
Game's year of release: 2009
Company: BioWare

Morrigan broke a few hearts in her debut in BioWare's fantasy masterpiece, Dragon Age: Origins, and probably broke a few more in her appearance in Inquisition. Morrigan is an unusual character, the daughter of a witch and an apostate mage growing up in the Korcari Wilds.

As a romance option for a male Grey Warden, her logic, disdain for worldly treasures, and alternative view on life made her irresistible to many players and remains one of the favorite video game hotties to this day.

28. Angel (TrickStyle)

English voice actor: n/a
Game's year of release: 1999

Those who ever owned a Dreamcast console might remember TrickStyle, an extreme sports racing game with a variety of playable characters and levels. The Britney Spears influence is strong in the skateboarding teen hottie, Angel, who represented England.

27. Felicia (Darkstalkers)

English voice actor: n/a (Japanese only)
Game's year of release: 1994
Company: Capcom

Felicia is an adorable American cat girl who was taken in by a Sister, Rose. Though she is a Darkstalker, she's an enthusiastic and optimistic girl who loves singing and dancing. Whether you're into cat girls or not, no one can deny there's something sweet about this character.

26. Nabooru (The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

English voice actor: n/a

25. Sylvanas Windrunner (World of Warcraft)

English voice actor: n/a
Game's year of release: 2004
Company: Blizzard Entertainment

Hot undead chick, anyone? There are a few babes in World of Warcraft, but my personal favorite is the supreme ruler of the Forsaken, a beautifully designed character with lore as deep as the rest of the game, something Blizzard does best.

24. Miranda Lawson (Mass Effect)

English voice actor: Yvonne Strahovski
Game's year of release: 2009-2012
Company: BioWare

Mass Effect is notorious for its vast range of romance options, and Miranda Lawson is one of them. She appears in three of the series' games: Mass Effect Galaxy, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.

Miranda is a gorgeous character who the developers had fun teasing you with! She remains one of BioWare's top girls.

23. Princess Zelda (The Legend of Zelda)

22. Isabela (Dragon Age II)

English voice actor: Victoria Kruger
Game's year of release: 2011

Isabela is the captain of the Siren's Call, a pirate ship, and is romanceable in Dragon Age II whether you are playing as a male or female Hawke, much to players' delight!

Appearing again with a makeover after a brief appearance in the first installment, this sassy and slightly untrustworthy rogue is one of the more memorable characters in the second game of the beloved Dragon Age franchise.

21. Jill Valentine (Resident Evil)

English voice actor (Resident Evil): Una Kavanagh
Game's year of release: 1996-2015
Company: Capcom

Jill has been a part of the Resident Evil cast since the original game was released in 1996 and also appeared as the protagonist in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and in the Raid Mode of Revelations 2. This anti-Umbrella Corporation counterterrorism officer is one of the favorite Resident Evil characters of all time and players continue to enjoy playing as this gorgeous fighter.

20. Midna (The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)

English voice actor: n/a
Game's year of release: 2006
Company: Nintendo

Midna is a Legend of Zelda princess who is not to be forgotten! This cheeky character was first brought to our screens on the Gamecube. Though this Twili ruler was initially trapped in a small, imp-like form, we witness her true beauty when she gains back her true body for an emotional farewell.

19. Mjoll the Lioness (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim)

English voice actor: Colleen Delany
Game's year of release: 2011
Company: Bethesda

There are many characters in Bethesda's RPG fantasy masterpiece Skyrim whom you can romance, but Mjoll will always be my favorite. This feisty, painted warrior could kick your ass or run your family shop, depending on your in-game choices.

Best of all, you can have her as a companion; as well as being super strong, she also can't be killed, which gives her one-up on other companions such as Lydia.

18. Liara T'Soni (Mass Effect)

English voice actor: Ali Hillis
Game's year of release: 2007-2017
Company: BioWare

The asari researcher, Liara, has appeared in almost all of the Mass Effect games and is a possible romance option for both a female or male Shepherd. Most players would agree that this beautiful alien is one of the favorites to pursue and a memorable one at that.

17. Roxana (Assassin's Creed Odyssey)

English voice actor: unknown
Game's year of release: 2018
Company: Ubisoft

Roxana is a minor character and potential romance in Assassin's Creed Odyssey once you've found her on Hydrea and completed her trials. This attractive young woman turned quite a few players' heads in the latest installment of the much-loved Assassin's Creed franchise.

16. Princess Peach (Super Mario)

English voice actor (Wii generation): Jen Taylor
Game's year of release: 1985-
Company: Nintendo

Princess Peach is one of the most famous gaming princesses out there! We have watched her evolve from the helpless damsel in distress to a fighter in the Super Smash Bros games. This sweet and over-the-top girly character has charmed players for decades. She's definitely my favorite Nintendo girl.

15. Kitana (Mortal Kombat)

English voice actor: Talisa Sato
Game's year of release: 1993-
Company: Midway Games

Princess Kitana was introduced to the Mortal Kombat series from the second game released in 1993 and is now one of the most well-known characters despite being fanmade! It's no secret that Kitana is considered one of the sexiest characters in the game. That dress!

14. Citra Talugmai (Far Cry 3)

English voice actor: Faye Kingslee
Game's year of release: 2012
Company: Ubisoft

Citra Talugmai is beautiful and charismatic, known as "the goddess" by her followers. She's a potential love interest for Jason, the game's protagonist, but can she really be trusted? This fascinating character definitely deserves a spot on this list.

13. Yennefer of Vengerberg (The Witcher III: Wild Hunt)

English voice actor: Denise Gough
Game's year of release: 2015
Company: CD Projekt

Yennefer is a sorceress and the Geralt of Riveria's true love. With a troubled past and magic-induced beauty, Yennefer caught the attention of many players of this beloved story.

12. Cortana (Halo)

English voice actors: Jen Taylor
Game's year of release: 2001-2015
Company: Bungie, 343 Industries

Who knew that artificial intelligence could be so attractive? Cortana has been part of the Halo games since 2001, providing information, tactics, and backstory to the player.

Her relationship with Master Chief is (sort of) romantic come Halo 4, a concept that had mixed reactions from players. Despite being little more than a cyborg or projection, no one can deny Cortana's got it going on!

11. Lulu (Final Fantasy X)

English voice actor: Paula Tiso
Game's year of release: 2001
Company: Square Enix

What is it about grumpy girls? This rather pessimistic yet wise mage is undoubtedly the hottest character in Final Fantasy X and she knows it. Purple nails, a low-cut dress, and an all-around gothic influence on her look made her one of many people's childhood crushes.

10. Kainé (NieR)

English voice actor: Laura Bailey
Game's year of release: 2010
Company: Square Enix

Kainé is one of those characters you never forget. As well as insane fighting skills and a ridiculously sexy outfit only Square Enix could create, Kainé swears like a sailor and has a hot temper to match, yet is endearing and has a solid backstory that explains why she is how she is.

Kainé is one of my favorite characters from any game, ever. NieR: Gestalt and NieR: Replicant remain incredibly underrated games for the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3, respectively.

9. Palutena (Kid Icarus)

English voice actor: Ali Hillis
Game's year of release: 1986-2012
Company: Nintendo

Palutena appears in the Kid Icarus series as the goddess of light. In the original game, she was held prisoner by the goddess of darkness and grants Pit the ability to fly.

She is well known for being a character in the Super Smash Bros. games. She is exceptionally beautiful and deserves a spot on this list!

8. Queen Anora (Dragon Age)

English voice actor: Mika Simmons
Game's year of release: 2009-2014
Company: BioWare

Anora is the sophisticated and lovely queen of Fereldan, the daughter of Teyrn Loghain and a strong ruler. It is possible to marry her in Dragon Age: Origins and become the king of Fereldan if you play as a non-mage human male!

She also makes an appearance in Dragon Age: Inquisition if you gain the mages' support and the correct backstory is selected. Anora's diplomacy and regal beauty is what makes her one of my top ten favorite video game ladies.

7. Rayne (BloodRayne)

English voice actor: Laura Bailey
Game's year of release: 2002-2011
Company: Terminal Reality

Redheaded half-vampire assassins, anyone? Rayne is the main character in the hack-and-slash games BloodRayne and is witty, intelligent, and seductive, on a murderous rampage to avenge the human side of her family. Many a player adore Rayne for her good looks and resourcefulness.

6. Isabella "Ivy" Valentine (Soulcalibur)

English voice actor: Lani Minella
Game's year of release: 1995-
Company: Namco

Ivy has been part of the Soulcalibur series for years. Her many different outfits and body shape make her one of the hottest characters not only in the franchise but in all of gaming! I love playing as Ivy in Soulcalibur and kicking butt.

5. Tifa Lockhart (Final Fantasy VII)

English voice actor: Rachael Leigh Cook
Game's year of release: 1997
Company: Square Enix

Tifa Lockhart is a character in the beloved Final Fantasy VII, of which fans are eagerly awaiting the promised remake! She also appeared in Kingdom Hearts and Ehrgeiz, and we saw her in all her HD glory in the movie release Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Tifa is a powerful fighter who uses her fists, though she is always ready to cheer up her friends! she is one of the most well-loved video game characters of all time and let's face it - she's a hottie!

4. Samus Aran (Metroid)

English voice actor (Metroid: Other M): Jessica Martin
Game's year of release: 1986-2017
Company: Retro Studios

The Metroid games have been around since the '80s, with Samura Aran, the main protagonist, given even more attention from her role in the Super Smash Bros games. Zero Suit Samus is tough, fit, and drop-dead gorgeous!

3. 2B (Nier: Automata)

English voice actor: Kira Buckland
Game's year of release: 2017
Company: Square Enix

When Nier: Automata came out in 2017, people just could not stop talking about the drop-dead gorgeous protagonist. The game, in my opinion, was not nearly as good as its lesser-known predecessors, Nier: Gestalt and Nier: Replicant, 2B was nevertheless a character that caught the whole gaming world's attention.

2. Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)

English voice actor (Shadow of the Tomb Raider): Camilla Luddington
Game's year of release: 1996-2018
Company: Square Enix

Lara Croft is possibly one of the most famous video game girls out there, appearing in all installments of the Tomb Raider franchise. She is also often considered one of the hottest!

With a signature look of a tight top and braid (more recently a ponytail), exploration and combat skills, and a smooth English accent, Lara is definitely one of the most beloved of female game characters.

1. Bayonetta

English voice actor: Hellena Taylor
Game's year of release: 2009-
Company: Sega

Topping this list is the gorgeous and powerful Bayonetta, the star of the video game series of the same name. She has also appeared in Super Smash Bros.

With tremendous arcane power and beauty, I personally love Bayonetta's look: leather and glasses, among other things. In my opinion, she's the most beautiful female video game character of all time!

What would video games be without developing mad crushes on the characters? There are many gorgeous fictional girls and boys out there and games are no different! Who do you think should be number one?

Wow. Tifa is easily the most overrated female character. I would've gotten rid of a lot of females on here and out Chun Li, Taokaka, and others.

A lot of these have a bit of wrong information. Liara isn't a romantic interest of Ryder, but actually Shepard. Also, the images of Kitana are from Soul Calibur, which does not actually feature Kitana at all, and that is just a fan made character.

Thank you, Liz. Graphics have indeed improved since the '80s, not that it stopped people developing crushes on some characters! I believe Lara Croft was still considered sexy even when she was barely a couple of pixels.

Poppy, video games are unquestionably one of the most popular sorts of entertainment. WOW, what a selection of female video game characters. I am only familiar with two out of the selection. You did an excellent job writing this article and very informative of the characters. I am not a big video fan myself, but my nephew, niece and son play and I watch them at times. But, from the details of this article, I will look up some of the characters you spoke of and give it a try to see what I been missing. Thank you for your input and shedding the light on such entertaining characters.
