Objectives:

  • Acquire these goods: 1 x Proof of Discovery: Anomalies

Welcome, [Your Name]. Let's see if we can make an explorer out of you.

Once you've undocked into space, enable your Sensor Overlay and look around for a location named "Anomaly Training Site". This is a Cosmic Anomaly, which means it'll be easy to find.

Warp to it and I'll give you further instructions once you've made it there. Don't worry about combat this time around - we've cleared out the area for you.

Overview:

The idea of Cosmic Anomalies (1 of 5) is pretty simple. You are to locate one of the Training Site anomalies, warp to it, and retrieve a set of documents from within a container located at the site. What makes this mission challenging, if you have never messed with exploration before, is simply knowing where to look to find these anomaly sites.

Locating Combat Anomalies

There are 2 relatively simple and easy ways to find the Combat Anomaly sites, including the training site for this mission. The first is to open up the probe scanner device on your ship, it's location highlighted in the picture above. You can also use the default shortcut, Alt-P to open up this window.

Just find the name of the Combat Anomaly you wish to warp to, then right click and warp to 0 on it, In this case you are looking for "Anomaly Training"

The second easiest means of finding the anomalies, shown further below, involves just looking around in space while undocked for little red markers highlighted by dashed white circles. As you hover over them, their names will show up along with some other relevant information, allowing you to also target and warp to them as long as they are not the special sites that require scanning (not used in this mission). If you do not see these, you can hit Ctrl+O or hover your mouse near your capacitor ring to get them to show up.

A Brief Guide to Combat Anomalies

Now it might not be clear right off the bat, but this training site you are being asked to warp to is one of several types of anomalies, broadly called a Combat Anomaly. These are named such because they primarily tend to feature waves of enemies that spawn before occasionally triggering some final wave that includes a rare enemy that drops higher tier valuables, or the chance to lead to Escalations, special missions that have a chance to trigger from meeting certain conditions in a Combat Anomaly. Do note, the are further subcategories of anomalies not mentioned here due to their complex and end-game nature.

These Combat Anomalies are special because they do not need to be scanned down with probes, a feature that has to be used to find Cosmic Signature anomalies that revolve more around hacking containers than simply fighting off ships. These will be addressed later in the guide when they come up.

Acquiring the Proof of Discovery: Anomalies

Once you've located the site with the scanner or visually as mentioned and shown above, you can warp to the location. Once there, you will receive a transmission to read and the container will be floating a little ways out, waiting for you to loot the documents out of it. Once collected, you are free to return to your agent's station and continue with the next part of the exploration chain.
