Rep Grinds in World of Warcraft: Questing and Farming to Exalted

In this reputation guide, I will be covering how to raise your reputation with various factions by doing the following:

  • Repeatable Quests
  • Daily Quests
  • Mob Farming

Repeatable Quests

Turn-in farming is when you collect specific items and hand them in as a form of repeatable quest to increase you rep with a faction. Sometimes you need to farm for these items; other times you can simply buy them off the auction house.

Classic Factions

Cenarion Circle

Neutral – Exalted: Encrypted Twilight Text

Items can be traded and bought off the auction house.

Hated –11,999/12,000 Honored: Kill Syndicate mobs in Hillsbrad and Alterac Mountains.

11,999/12,000 Honored– Exalted: Heavy Junkboxes

Note: You will need a rogue that is at least level 60 to Pickpocket Heavy Junkboxes from humanoid mobs in Tyr's Hand, Eastern Plaguelands and in the 5 man dungeon, Lower Blackrock Spire.

You can also buy the junkboxes from other players as they can be traded. However, they cannot be put on the auction house.

Tip: You are allowed to open the junkboxes, but you must leave an item or some money inside, or the box will disappear and you can't hand it in. DO NOT use Auto Loot when opening the boxes, or you will automatically loot everything and the box will disappear!

FYI: You need a total of 1,470 Heavy Junkboxes :3

Thorium Brotherhood

Neutral – Exalted: Dark Iron Ore, Core Leather, Blood of the Mountain, Fiery Core, Lava Core

Items can be farmed in Molten Core (raid instance) or bought off the auction house.

Timbermaw Hold

Hated – Revered: Kill common Furbolgs - Deadwood, Felpaw and Winterfall. You can also kill named mobs, Overlord Ror, Chieftain Bloodmaw, Ragepaw and High Chief Winterfall until Exalted.

Unfriendly – Exalted: Deadwood Headdress Feather, Winterfall Spirit Beads

Items are Bind on Pick up and cannot be traded.

Darkmoon Faire

This faction is so complex it can make your brain hurt!

Neutral – 2500/6000 Friendly: Complete any of the 22 repeatable quests

2500/6000 Friendly – Exalted: Hand in Darkmoon Faire decks only

All green low level decks: Rogues, Swords, Mages and Demons = 25 rep each.

All epic DMF decks, including level 60/70/80/85 decks = 350 rep each.

Note: You can only do the repeatable quests and hand in epic DMF decks when the Faire takes place once a month in either Elwynn Forest, Mulgore or Terokkar Forest. You can complete the low level decks at any time.

The Burning Crusade Factions at Exalted

The Burning Crusade Factions at Exalted

The Burning Crusade Factions

Sha'tari Skyguard

Neutral – Exalted: Shadow Dust

Dusts can be traded and bought off the AH.

Unfriendly – Friendly:

  • Mature Spore Sac - gathered around Zangarmarsh

The Mag'har (H) / Kurenai (A)

Neutral – Exalted: Obsidian Warbeads

You can also kill any Warmaul, Murkblood, Kil'sorrow, and Boulderfist mobs from Neutral – Exalted.

Tip: Grind Warmaul and Boulderfist ogres only, as they can drop Obsidian Warbeads. Hand these in for rep with The Consortium. Two reps, one grinding session!

Cenarion Expedition

Neutral – Exalted: Coilfang Armaments

These can be farmed in Coilfang Reservoir dungeons or bought off the AH.

The Aldor / The Scryers

You can only gain rep with one of these factions at a time. As you gain rep with one, you lose rep with the other. Once you hit Exalted with one, you are able to reverse the rep and gain it with the other one to get the achievement Hero of Shattrath.

All items can be either farmed or bought off the AH.

Hated – Unfriendly:

  • Dreadfang Venom Sac (Aldor)
  • Dampscale Basilisk Eye (Scryers)

Neutral – Honored:

  • Mark of Kil'jaeden (Aldor)
  • Firewing Signets (Scryers)

Friendly – Exalted:

  • Marks of Sargeras (Aldor)
  • Sunfury Signets (Scryers)

Neutral – Exalted:

  • Fel Armament (Aldor)
  • Arcane Tome (Scryers)

The Consortium

Neutral – Neutral:

  • Oshu'gun Crystal Fragment
  • Pair of Ivory Tusks

Friendly – Exalted:

  • Obsidian Warbeads
  • Zaxxis Insignia

Wrath of the Lich King Factions

The Sons of Hodir

Neutral – Exalted:

  • Everfrost Chips
  • Relic of Ulduar

Chips are BoP but Relics can be farmed or bought off the AH.

Daily Quests

Daily Quests, as the name suggests, are quests which may be completed once every day. By completing certain daily quests, you can gain rep with the associated faction.

As well as earning rep upon handing in daily quests, you also get a nice sum of gold too!

Note: You are only able to complete a total of 25 daily quests each day.

The Burning Crusade Factions

Neutral – Exalted: 3 daily quests* at Ogri'la, Blade's Edge Mountains

Honored – Exalted: 1 extra daily opens up

* 2 of these dailies also awards Sha'tari Skyguard rep.

Note: You need to have a flying mount in order to reach the quest hub in Ogri'la.

Sha'tari Skyguard

Neutral – Exalted: 2 daily quests in Skettis, Terokkar Forest

Neutral – Exalted: 2 daily quests* in Ogri'la, BEM

* completing these 2 dailies also awards Ogri'la rep.

Note: You need to have a flying mount in order to reach the quest hub in Ogri'la.

The Shattered Sun Offensive

Neutral – Exalted: Daily quests on the Isle of Quel'Danas

There are about 21 daily quests that can be completed on the Isle of Quel'Danas. A good mix of both daily questing and running 5 man Magister's Terrace will get you to Exalted in no time.

Becoming Exalted with the Netherwing depends on opening up a long and complexed quest chain. You begin with a certain amount of dailies to do each day. Once you reach the next rep rank, you will gain access to more dailies, along with the ones you had previously. You continue in this fashion until you reach Exalted.

Note: You must be at least level 70 with a normal flying mount to start the quest chain. To continue the chain and unlock the dailies, you need the epic flying skill.

Hated – Neutral: 9 step quest chain (non repeatable quests)

Once you've finished the quest chain with the NPC Mordenai, he will send you on one last quest to Overlord Mor'ghor at the Dragonmaw Base Camp, who will then open up the daily quests for you.

The best way to maximise your rep gain is to concentrate on the repeatable quest: The Great Netherwing Egg Hunt, along with doing the dailies once a day. This quest is repeatable, not a daily, which means you can complete it as many times as you'd like. The only catch is that you need to find the eggs! Although, nowadays, the Netherwing quest hub is probably as dead as Shattrath and Dalaran so competition for the Netherwing Eggs should be really low.

Note: It will take you approx 14 days to reach Exalted with the Netherwing (not including the repeatable Egg quest, human rep bonus racial or guild perks).

  • Neutral by the end of day 1
  • Friendly by the end of day 2
  • Honored by the end of day 4
  • Revered by the end of day 7
  • Exalted by the end of day 14

Obviously, if you are in a high level guild, a human, and are willing to farm a load of eggs, you will hit Exalted a lot quicker!!

Tranquillen is a Blood elf faction that only Horde players can earn rep with. Farming for rep with this faction is extremely easy, as it involves completing all of the quests in the Blood elf starting zones. By the time you've cleared the zone and have completed all of the chain quests, you will be Exalted.

This has to be the easiest faction that Horde players can do. You can knock this rep grind out in an hour or two. Simples.

Note: Please bear in mind that you will be questing in a starter zone so newbie players should have priority over mobs you are killing. They are doing it to level, you are doing it for fun. Have some respect.

Wrath of the Lich King Factions

The Kalu'ak

You can earn rep with this faction by completing all of the related quests in the Borean Tundra, Dragonblight and Howling Fjord quest hubs. Once you've done this, the only way on to Exalted is to complete the 3 daily quests available.

  • Preparing for the Worst: Kaskala in Borean Tundra
  • Planning for the Future: Moa'ki Harbour in Dragonblight
  • The Way to His Heart : Kamagua in Howling Fjord

Note: You are able to do these daily quests from Neutral – Exalted.

Frenzyheart Tribe / Oracles

These two factions are found in Sholazar Basin and are like The Scryers and The Aldor factions of Shattrath. You can only gain rep with one faction at a time, while losing rep with the other. You can also reverse the rep gain in favour of the other faction, earning you the achievement Mercenary of Sholazar.

Once you have completed the starting quest chain, and have chosen the faction you wish to be allied with, you will open up 3 daily quests which is the only way to Exalted.

  • Appeasing the Great Rain Stone (O)
  • Chicken Party (FH)

In addition to the above quest, you will also get the following:

One of these 3 will be selected at random each day

  • Mastery of the Crystals
  • Power of the Great Ones
  • Will of the Titans

  • Kartak's Rampage
  • Tools of War
  • Secret Strength if the Frenzyheart

One of these 4 will be selected at random each day

  • A Cleansing Song
  • Song of Fecundity
  • Song of Reflection
  • Song of Wind and Water

  • A Hero's Headgear
  • Rejek: First Blood
  • Strength of the Tempest
  • The Heartblood's Strength

Sons of Hodir

SoH is an ice giant faction in the Storm Peaks. You start off as Hated with them and can only work your way up by completing a lengthy quest chain that eventually opens up several daily quests.

The epic quest chain starts with They Took Our Men and will take you on a 35 quest journey of the Storm Peaks. This chain also offers several side quests that you must also do as a prerequisite to open up the daily quests.

Upon completing the quest chain, you will be Honored. To continue your rep grind, you must do daily and repeatable quests.

Neutral – Exalted:

  • Hot and Cold
  • Blowing Hodir's Horn
  • Hodir's Tribute (repeatable quest, hand in Relic's of Ulduar)

Friendly – Exalted:

  • Polishing the Helm
  • Everfrost (repeatable quest, hand in Everfrost chips)

Honored – Exalted:

  • Spy Hunter
  • Thrusting Hodir's Spear

Revered – Exalted:

  • Feeding Arngrim

Note: You are able to continue doing the previous rank quests in addition to the new ones.

Cataclysm Factions

Hellscream's Reach (H) / Baradin's Wardens (A)

These 2 factions rule the island of Tol Barad, featuring an outdoor PvP area with access to a raid instance, and a major PvE quest hub offering numerous daily quests. It's a Cataclysm version of Wintersgrasp. You can earn rep with them by completing daily quests, winning Tol Barad and by killing the raid boss, Argaloth in Baradin Hold and by buying Tol Barad Commendations from the quartermaster (with currency you get as quest rewards).

The zone is separated into two isles. On the northern isle, Tol Barad Peninsula, both Horde and Alliance can complete daily quests from each of their sides' quest hub. The southern isle, Tol Barad, is where the battle for Baradin Hold happens every 2 hours. Just like in Wintersgrasp, the faction that holds the prison, gains access to extra daily quests in the zone along with the raid instance.

Tol Barad Peninsula quest hubs: Hellscream's Grasp (H) / Baradin's Base Camp (A)

To enter this zone, you must be level 85 and take the portal from either Orgrimmar or Stormwind (near to the other Cata portals). You will portal to your factions camp, where you will find daily quest givers, quartermasters, vendors and a portal back to the main city.

There are 6 daily quests out of a possible 22 that are available each day. The quests you get are chosen randomly each day.

Questing in this zone will not flag you for PvP, unless you are already on a PvP server. The quests are all PvE related and do not require you to engage in PvP.

Tol Barad quests

If your faction holds Tol Barad then there is potentially 12 daily quests for you to do each day, depending on how many times you win TB and on which NPC spawns to offer you the quests.

3 quests for Tol Barad

The NPC will always offer these same 3 quests

3 quests for D-Block
3 quests for Cursed Depths
3 quests for The Hole

The above quests are given by 3 different quest givers, which will spawn randomly with the first, every time your faction wins TB. So, if you happen to win TB 3 times in one day, there is a chance that you will be offered quests by all 3 NPC's.

Therazane is a Sons of Hodir style faction in Deepholm. All players start out Hated with them, but end up Honored once all of the Deepholm quests have been completed. Once completed, you will gain access to the daily quests.

You will be offered 7 out of a possible 10 daily quests from various NPC's in Therazane's Throne.

Note: You can also champion this faction by wearing a Therazane Tabard and running level 85 Cataclysm dungeons.

Dragonmaw Clan (H) / Wildhammer Clan (A)

Both of these factions are based in the Twilight Highlands and require you to first complete the intro quests given in Orgrimmar or Undercity / Stormwind or Darnassus. You must complete the starter quest chain in order to open up your sides faction town, Dragonmaw Port (H) and Highbank (A). Once established, you will be able to portal back to Orgrimmar / Stormwind. At this point you will be able to continue on with the quest line in the Twilight Highlands, eventually leading you to Bloodgulch (H) and Thundermar (A). Once all of the quests for those hubs are completed, you will open up 5 daily quests.

Note: You can also champion this faction by wearing a Tabard and running level 85 Cataclysm dungeons.

There are only 2 daily quests that you are able to do for Ramkahen which can be done from Neutral – Exalted.

  • Thieving Little Pluckers
  • Fire From the Sky

The first daily is available to you when you first enter the zone and begin questing in Uldum. The second daily quest only becomes available once you have completed the entire Harrison Jones quest chain (most of the quests in Uldum).

Note: You can also champion this faction by wearing a Ramkahen Tabard and running level 85 Cataclysm dungeons.

Mob Farming

Mob Farming is the simplest and most basic method of farming for rep. It can also be the most boring. All it involves is killing a specific mob or group of mobs over and over. Just like with the Dungeon Farming, put some music on and zone out!

Classic Factions

Bloodsail Buccaneers

Due to the numerous Goblin quests you would have done on your way up to 85, your Bloodsail's rep will probably be Hated. The only way to gain rep with the Bloodsail's is to kill Steamwheedle Cartel guards at Booty Bay.

It's that simple. Or it used to be pre Cataclysm. Now the guards at Booty Bay are level 85 elites and apparently hit like a truck. You might want to find a healer friend for this grind. On the up side, you can now grind this rep all the way to Exalted just by killing the guards.

Note: Killing BB guards will cause your Steamwheedle Cartel rep to drop very quickly. By the time you hit Honored with Bloodsail's, you will already be Hated with the SWC.

Hydraxian Waterlords

The main way to increase rep with this faction is to raid Molten Core. However there are a few mobs outside of the raid and dungeons that grant you rep.

The air elemental's in Silithus, Dust Stormers and Desert Rumbler's, and Greater Obsidian Elemental's in the Burning Steppes, give rep from Neutral – Honored. From Honored – Exalted, you will have to raid Molten Core.

Steamwheedle Cartel Factions

You are unlikely to be Hated with the Steamwheedle Cartel (SWC) unless you have previously farmed for Bloodsail Buccaneers rep.

Note: If you intend to farm for Bloodsail Buccaneers rep, you will lose rep with all of the SWC factions. So farm for Bloodsail's first, otherwise you will end up needing to grind SWC twice, and that wont be fun. Unless you don't care for not being able to enter any of the goblin towns.

Just outside every goblin town, there is a repeatable quest you can do to repair the damage to your SWC rep. Each quest involves handing in 40x cloth and 4x a certain regent. While you will gain rep for the specific faction you are doing the quest for, you will also gain a small amount of spillover rep with the other SWC factions too (although it will not show you in the chat pane). So it works out cost effective to start with Ratchet. Keep handing in linen cloth until you reach neutral, then move on to Booty Bay. Due to the spill over rep, you wont need as much cloth, meaning fewer turn ins. By the time you reach Everlook, you will be almost done.

Hated – Neutral: Linen Cloth and Crystal Vials

Booty Bay

Hated – Neutral: Silk Cloth and Red Dye

Hated – Neutral: Mageweave Cloth and Strong Flux

Hated – Neutral: Runecloth and Coal

All SWC Factions

Hated – Exalted: Kill any Pirates and Venture Co. mobs in The Barrens, Tanaris, Stranglethorn Vale and the Grizzly Hills.

Killing mobs to raise SWC rep will not cause you to lose Bloodsail rep. However, completing the repeatable cloth quests will. So if you wish to preserve your Bloodsail's rep, avoid doing any SWC related quests.

Good Luck Reaching Exalted!

And that concludes this guide. I hope this has been helpful to any one wishing to work on getting their reputations to Exalted. It is an area of the game I enjoy, and although I have a long way to go to fully maxing out all of my reps, I hope my knowledge on this topic can benefit other players.

Remember to Wear Your Tabard

As for tips on which reps are the easiest to do and which ones you should aim for first, well that’s entirely up to you and your play style. In my opinion, you can't go wrong if you start with those reps that can be maxed out by wearing a Tabard and running a load of dungeons (see Part 1). There's 15 of them. Then there's the 13 that don't require a Tabard, just you clearing an instance x amount of times. So that's 28 reps before you've even got going!

Good luck and happy grinding!
