Are you ready to step up your adventure in Ragnarok Online by changing your job class from an Acolyte to a Monk? Monks are individuals who value discipline above all. In body, in mind, and in spirit, Monks strive to attain enlightenment of the highest degree. As a result, the forces of nature routinely come to their aid in their times of need because they are essentially one with the universe. Once you become a Monk, you will discover that with discipline comes enlightenment and with enlightenment comes supremacy.

Now that you’re on your way to becoming an Monk, there’s only one task left for you to complete and that’s passing the Monk Job Change Quest! Don’t fret about it because this guide will help you successfully pass the trial and finally become the Monk of your dreams.

The Monk Job Change Quest

Step 1: Register for the Monk Job Change Quest

Before you take the quest, keep in mind that your Job Level as an Acolyte should be 40 or above.

To begin, simply ask to the Guarding Monk who is located near the entrance of St. Capitolina Abbey (coordinates: prt_monk 59,247). St. Capitolina Abbey is situated one (1) map North, then three (3) maps east of Prontera.

After telling the Guarding Monk your name and intent, he will direct you to the facilitator of the first test of the Monk Job Change Quest.

Step 2: Take the First Test (Item Gathering Test)

The first test will be facilitated by Monk Moohae who is inside the Monk Temple in St. Capitolina Abbey (coordinates: monk_in 99,58). Once you talk to him, he will ask you to gather one of the following sets of items:

Set 1-

  • Bear’s Footskin x5
  • Tooth of Bat x10
  • Poison Spore x20

Set 2-

  • Porcupine Quill x5
  • Grasshopper’s Leg x10
  • Cobweb x20

Set 3-

  • Jellopy x5
  • Worm Peeling x10
  • Stem x30

Set 4-

  • Sticky Mucus x5
  • Earthworm Peeling x10
  • Green Herb x20

Set 5-

  • Blue Herb x3
  • Iron Ore x5
  • Yoyo Tail x20

Set 6-

  • Solid Shell x5
  • Zargon x5
  • Shell x20

Set 7-

  • Cyfar x5
  • White Herb x10
  • Yellow Herb x10

After gathering the necessary items, give to Touha and he will allow you to take the next test.

Note: If your Job Level as an Acolyte is 50, you won’t have to do Sensei Moohae’s test. Instead, he will automatically allow you to take the second test.

Step 3: Take the Second Test (Mental State Test)

The second test will be supervised by Touha who is on the farthest northeast corner of St. Capitolina Abbey (coordinates: prt_monk 251,255). Once you talk to her, she will begin the Mental State Test right away.

For this test, you just have to echo what she says to you. Basically, you need to memorize and tell her the same sentences she tells you. There are three sets of paragraphs. You only need to echo one set to her. Here are the paragraphs as follows:

Set 1-

I seek the path

of enlightenment

We monks

shall hold true

to what we believe

and will help protect others

through the teachings

we learn through our lives.

In nominee Patris, et Filii

et Spiritus Sancti.

Set 2-

I commit myself to

veritas and aequitas.

I will follow my path

to enlightenment and purity.

I will protect my

brothers with my life.

Evil shall never be

victorious while I breathe.

In nominee Patris, et Filii

et Spiritus Sancti.

Set 3-

And shepherds we shall be

for thee my lord for thee.

Power hath descended forth

from the hand

so our feet may swiftly carry

out thy command. And we shall

flow a river forth to thee and

teeming with souls shall it ever be

In nominee Patris, et Filii

et Spiritus Sancti.

After you successfully pass her test, Touha will tell you that Boohae will guide on your next trial.

Step 4: Take the Third Test (Marathon/Mushroom Gathering Test)

Talk to Boohae who is on the farthest southwest corner of St. Capitolina Abbey (coordinates: prt_monk 57,179). He will let you chose whether you want to take the “Marathon Test” or the “Mushroom Gathering Test.” Once you’ve decided on what test you’ll take, talk to Bashu who is inside the building near the center of St. Capitolina Abbey (coordinates: monk_test 329,61), and he will warp you to the testing room.

Marathon Test-

Begin this test by talking to the Apprentice Monk in the testing area. Once you are done talking, finish the course by running through a track with traps all over the place. The goal is to run until you reach the end.

Mushroom Gathering Test-

Begin this test by talking to Hyunsmoo in the testing area. Once you are done talking, finish the test by collecting as many “Orange Net Mushrooms” and “Orange Gooey Mushrooms” as you can. Hyunmoo will not tell you how many mushrooms he need, so just collect until he is satisfied.

Note: The “Marathon Test” and “Mushroom Gathering Test” are interchangeable. If you want to give up on one and try the other, you can do so as you please. Keep in mind though that both tests are trials that purposely tests your patience.

Step 5: Take the Fourth Test (The Maze Test)

Talk to Tomoon who is inside the same building as Bashu (coordinates: monk_test 319,139) to the fourth and final test. The last test is the Maze Test. In this test, you only have to navigate and find your way through a maze with invisible walls. The maze is difficult enough, but monsters will also try to distract you. Keep in mind that this test is also a test of patience.

After you successfully find your way out of the maze, talk to Tomoon and he will give you a green potion. Drink it and that will signify the end of the test.

Step 6: Become a Monk

Now that you’ve passed all the tests, go back to Sensei Moohae and he will ask you a few questions. Answer all of his questions with common sense and he will finally accept you as an official Monk. Additionally, if your Job Level as an Acolyte was 50, Sensei Moohae will give you a Knuckle Dusters [3]. Otherwise, he will give you a Waghnak [3].

Congratulations, you are now a Monk!

Acolyte, Did you Choose to Take the Path of a Monk?
