Making Wood Planks - a Guide
I will be writing this guide from the point of a player that has not made any of the beginner items. If you already have a sawmill you can skip down to "Making Wood Planks" part of this guide.
Here is also a quick summary for those of you that know a bit about the game. If that is enough for you to understand how to make wood planks, great. Otherwise, you should read on as I go into more detail on each step after the summary.
Summary of the Steps Needed to Make Wood Planks
- Gather 10 blocks of wood.
- Go to the basic workbench.
- Make a campfire.
- Place the campfire somewhere on your island.
- Go through the purple gate to the center island.
- Find the area where you can mine rocks.
- Mine 10 iron ores and a few coals.
- Return to your island.
- Go to your campfire and smelt the iron ore with your coal as fuel.
- Gather 10 more blocks of wood.
- Go to your basic workshop and make a sawmill.
- Place the sawmill.
- Now you can use the sawmill to make wood planks from blocks of wood. I recommend using coal as fuel.
Step 1 - Making a Campfire
The first step towards being able to make wood planks is to make a campfire since you will need iron later on. To do that you need to collect 10 blocks of wood, which you get from chopping down trees. When you have the wood you go to the basic workbench you made during the tutorial and use it to make a campfire.
You then need to place the campfire on the ground to be able to use it. Where you place it doesn't really matter, just pluck it down wherever you feel is best.
Step 2 - Gathering Iron Ore and Coal
The next step is to gather enough iron ore and coal to make 10 pieces of iron. To do this you need to go through the purple gate on your island to the center island.
Once you reach the center island, make your way to the mining area, which is located where the pickaxe symbol is.
You can mine the rocks found at this location. To do so you need to equip your pickaxe, walk close to a rock, click the left mouse button on a rock, and hold it until the rock is gone.
There are three types of rocks, stone, iron, and coal. The plain rocks give you stone blocks, the ones with the white dot will give you iron ore and the ones with the black dots will give you coal.

You will need to gather at least 10 iron ore and a few coals before returning, but I'd spend a bit more time here to get a little extra iron ore, stone, and coals.
Step 3 - Smelting the Iron Ore
The third step is to smelt the iron ore using your campfire. To do that you need to access your campfire and place iron ore and coal in it by clicking on the iron ore and coal in your inventory. The iron ore will automatically go into the smelting box and the coal will go into the fuel box.
This will turn the campfire on, starting the smelting process. When the iron ore turns into iron you then need to collect the iron from the campfire and place another iron ore into the smelting box. You should also place another coal as fuel so the smelting won't stop midway through. Once you have made 10 pieces of iron you can stop and collect any coal that you have not used from the fuel box.
Step 4 - Making a Sawmill
Now that you have your iron you can finally start making the sawmill. But first, you will need to gather 10 more blocks of wood from your trees.
Once you have 10 iron and 10 wood you can go to your basic workbench and make a sawmill there. Place it somewhere like you did with the campfire and you are ready to make wood planks.
Step 5 - Making Wood Planks
When you have a sawmill you can finally start making wood planks. Note that for each block of wood, you will get four wood planks.
To turn the wood into wood planks you use the sawmill is a similar way as the campfire. You first place the wood into the three top slots, again by clicking on the wood in your inventory, and then place coal in the fuel slot.
This will start the sawmill and you can collect your wood planks when they are ready and put more wood into the sawmill until you either run out of wood or coal as fuel.
So that's all there is to making wood planks in Roblox Islands. Now if you found this guide useful then please share it with your friends and allies in Roblox Islands and good luck with the game.
