RuneScape 3: 1-99 F2P/P2P Runecrafting Training Guide 2018 - Runespan, Running, Nodes, and Abyss Guide

Updated on March 23, 2018

Runecrafting is generally considered to be one of the slowest skills to train in the game. The conventional methods of going to an altar and converting rune/pure essence into runes has been overtaken by the Runespan and getting 99 is now far easier than before. This guide will show you the best ways to level Runecrafting whether you have little time or little money, and this guide will provide plenty of tips to beat the boredom of getting 99.

Equipment

Runecrafting is definitely slow. Therefore it is crucial that you get as much exp-boosting equipment as possible. Using clan avatars and bonus exp are obvious choices, but there is also an item set that gives a 5% experience boost to Runecrafting exp. It is called the Master Runecrafting Robes. These can be bought in the Runespan shop for reward points and each of the 4 pieces gives a 1% bonus with an extra 1% when all pieces are worn. Since you will be mostly training in the Runespan anyway, these will eventually be available for purchase at around level 70 at the most.

Other useful items are any of the five tiers of focused siphoning auras. These provide a 3-15% chance of successfully siphoning a node in the Runespan and they result in players receiving significantly more experience.

Fastest Way to 99

The fastest way to 99 is also the most AFKable, and that is the Runespan. For those of you unfamiliar with the Runespan, it is a vast dimension where the player is able to siphon runic energy from creatures. This rewards them with runes, however they cannot be taken outside the Runespan, but are traded in for reward points upon exiting. Maps of where to find the best nodes can be found below.

Levels 1 - 33:

Levels 1 - 33 are only able to use the low-level Runespan. As you get a higher level in Runecrafting you will be able to siphon from more advanced nodes. At level 1 you should siphon off Cyclones or Mind Storms, as these give a very similar exp rate at this level. You should move to Water Pools at level 5, Rock Fragments at level 9, Fireball at level 14, and then continue to level 33 using Vines. At this stage you don't need to focus on any island in particular, however island number 16 has the best exp rates on the low-level Runespan.

Levels 33 - 66:

At level 33 you unlock the mid-level Runespan, allowing you to siphon off much more advanced nodes and giving much more experience than before. Here you should use Fire Storms or Fleshy Growths until level 35, then focus on Chaotic Clouds until 40, and then use Nebula all the way to level 66. Around 35,500 - 59,000 exp per hour can be gained using islands 16 - 23 on this level. Note that the best node available for you to use may not always be present, so using any high-leveled node is more than acceptable. If you are a F2P player, this is the highest level Runespan you can reach, and only a few islands on this level are available. The best exp rate to 99 for a F2P player is found on islands 5 and 6, this should take you all the way to 99.

Levels 66 - 99:

At level 66 you finally unlock the high-level Runespan. Here you should train on islands 12 - 17 until you reach 90 Runecrafting. Focus on the highest level nodes available to you. When you reach level 90 you can obtain around 93,000 exp per hour using islands 32, 30, 29, 27, and 25 to find the best nodes available. They contain less low/mid-level nodes and favour the higher leveled ones such as Living Souls and Bloody Skulls.

Bonuses

The Runespan also has two distractions and diversions that players can participate in to gain additional experience. The first is a lost wizard who will give you a large experience reward in return for giving him some of a certain type of rune. Asking other wizards to direct you to him can help you find him very easily.

The other is the Runesphere. This appears every 2.5 hours and can also be found by asking wizards to direct you to them. They offer a large experience reward for siphoning off them and they work in a similar way to shooting stars.

Profitable Way to 99

Runecrafting can also be an extremely profitable skill. Since the exp rewards for training Runecrafting in the Runespan are fairly low anyway, many players choose to level up in a profitable way for slightly less experience. At the moment, the best way to make money is by crafting Mud Runes. The requirements are listed to the side, and the method is as follows:

  • Set up your inventory as follows:
  1. Astral runes
  2. Earth runes
  3. Filled small, medium, large and giant pouches
  4. Abyssal titan summoned and filled with essence
  5. Infinity ethereal outfit worn and filled with essence
  6. Rest of inventory pure essence
  • Start at Shattered Worlds bank and fill inventory as above, use a preset to speed things up and have pouches on action bar to quickly empty them
  • Rune north west and enter the water altar
  • Cast Magic Imbue and craft the mud runes
  • Exit altar and run back to bank
  • Repair pouches every 50 trips, or every 9 trips if using NPC contact
  • You can use the wicked hood for instant teleports to the altar

Thank You!

Thank you for reading my 1-99 Runecrafting guide. I hope it helps you get to whatever level you want to be. Feel free to ask any questions below and I'll reply as soon as possible! Remember that this is a very slow skill to train. It is also quite AFK, so it is recommended to watch a movie or TV show while you train to help pass the time. Good Luck!
