7 Games Like Gun Gale Online
Gun Gale Online - VRMMORPG
Gun Gale Online (GGO) is finally out, the sequel to the highly popular anime series Sword Art Online. Anime fans and gamers can’t help but compare the two, but one thing is for sure—both have distinct and undeniable appeals, prompting thousands of people to watch the series and even look for games that will immerse them in a virtual world just like what Kirito and the other characters have experienced. Unfortunately, there is no game out there that exactly resembles GGO. Perhaps we have to wait for a publisher to create a GGO game, but I have tried my best to look for games that will surely remind you of the hit anime series.
Let us take a look at some of the best MMOFPS on the market. These are my personal recommendations, but if you can add other games to the list, feel free to voice out your thoughts in the comments section.
1. Planetside 2
One of the most popular Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter games right now is Planetside 2, a remake of the Planetside title and is available on PC and PlayStation4. This is the game many people consider to be the most similar to the anime series as it shares some striking resemblances in terms of combat mechanics.
In this game, three factions compete for territorial control of the planet Auraxis. It takes place in a vast and open world in which large battles reaching up to thousands of players occur. You will experience familiar FPS elements such as sprinting and regenerating shields; however, this game lacks RPG elements so fans of this genre may be disappointed. Your individual skills and overall team work will determine whether you will triumph over the enemy factions. Do you have what it takes to conquer Auraxis?
Destiny is one of the most highly anticipated video games ever, primarily because it is hyped up so much and that rumors circulated the Internet about the game’s $500-million budget. Destiny’s developer, Bungie, has promised that the game will be unlike any other. It is mainly a first-person shooter but MMO elements will be incorporated in the game. However, Bungie said that they will deviate from the traditional elements of the MMO genre, offering an experience that will be entirely new to gamers.
The game is also set in an open world in which players can create their own dynamic experience. Despite being a MMO, players will not see all characters in the game. There is a matchmaking system that puts players in a team or pits them against each other. The race and class will have an effect on the gameplay. Each class has unique focus abilities which can be used in co-op or competitive matches. Destiny is available on PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
Firefall is another fairly new game. Released on July 29, 2014 by Red 5 Studios, this game has elements of both FPS and MMORPG. You can even switch to third-person with a click of a button. You can gain levels as you advance through the game. Instanced missions are where the story of the game is mostly told, so you will have to make your character stronger to be able to battle the main antagonist.
In Firefall, your character wears an armor called Battleframe, equipping you with jump jets a pair of wings that allow you to glide. The main Battleframes are: Assault, Biotech, Dreadnaught, Engineer and Recon. Each Battleframe has unique weapons and set of abilities. You can switch freely from one to another. When you reach the max level of your Battleframe, you can unlock an Advanced Battleframe with even more powerful weapons and abilities.
4. GunZ 2: The Second Duel
Back in 2003, a third-person shooter game titled GunZ: The Duel became a massive hit. A sequel has been released with better graphics and even more compelling gameplay. GunZ 2 is an online action shooting game that provides you with non-stop fight sequences against other players. This is the perfect game for you if you fast-paced action is what you’re looking for.
In this game, you can choose to play different classes to suit your style of play. There are also tons of weapons to choose from, including a deadly katana, a giant shield and a flame-thrower. Each class also has a unique set of passive and active skills. What’s great about this game is its combat system. You can freely roam around the map and navigate through obstacles like jumping over walls to gain an advantageous position. You can play with or against your friends so you have some variety in terms of gaming experience.
Warframe is a free-to-play TPS developed by Digital Extremes. The theme of the game is similar to Firefall. You play as a member of Tenno, waking up from centuries of cryosleep and finding yourself in a battle against the Grineer, the Corpus and the Infested. You are equipped with an exo-armor called Warframe, equipped with a set of abilities, stats and weapons.
There are 14 mission types in the game. You can team up with up to four players to take on these various missions. Some of the missions are: Assassination, wherein you need to defeat a boss; Survival, in which you need to survive against near endless waves of enemies; and Defense, where you need to defend an artifact from the invading enemies. The game is fast-paced, even allowing players to use parkour techniques during battles.
6. S4 League
S4 League is a 3D third-person shooter in a sci-fi setting. It is developed by Game On Studio. S4 stands for stylish costumes, esper (character’s abilities), shooting and sports (game has sports-like modes). You can adjust the camera in such a way that it looks like an fps. There are a total of eight game modes to choose from and weekly missions are available that offer rewards.
With several modes to play, you can have tons of fun playing the game using a variety of weapons ranging from rifles to swords. Deathmatch is a favorite among players. In this mode, two teams battle it out and the one with the most kills by the end of the round wins. Touch Down is another popular mode. There is a ball in the center of the map and the objective is to take the ball to the enemy base without dying. S4 League also has an anime-style graphics.
7. Borderlands 2
Borderlands 2 is the second game in the Borderland series released on September 18, 2012. The Game of the Year Edition was released in October of 2013, containing upgrade packs and all previous downloadable content. The game is a massive success, selling millions of copies worldwide. You will surely enjoy this action-role playing FPS if you want to engage in combat using a wide array of guns.
The gameplay is very similar to the previous title. You get to choose which weapon to use, including shotguns, assault rifles and handguns. Each weapon has a unique effect, so you must choose one that will best aid you in your mission. Borderlands 2 also features the Badass Ranking, a leveling system that allows players to increase base stats instantly by using tokens earned after completing certain challenges. The game was nominated for numerous game of the year awards, a testament to how awesome this action title is.
