"Hearthstone": Demon Hunter Midrange Deck (No Weapons!) and Analysis
How do I get the Demon Hunter class?
Demon Hunter is not one of the classes that you start with in Hearthstone, but it is easy and free to get. Simply go to the Solo Adventures and complete the Ashes of Outland Prologue. You will need to beat 4 bosses with premade decks, and then you will receive the Demon Hunter deck and many of its class cards as a reward.
What is the Demon Hunter Hero Power?
The Demon Hunter Hero Power is called Demon Claws. For 1 mana crystal, it gives your hero +1 attack this turn. This is quite useful as a ping to deal with 1 health enemy units,remove a divine shield, or to chip away at the opponent hero's health.
Below you can see the cards contained in this deck in order from lowest cost to highest cost.
You'll notice that a number of Demon Hunter cards have Outcast effects. These take place when the card is played as the leftmost or rightmost card in your hand.
2x Consume Magic
A 1-cost silence is always useful, especially against taunts when you want to finish off your opponent. In other circumstances, it can be used for card draw either when just drawn or when kept as the 1st card in your hand.
2x Ur'zul Horror
This 1-cost card has a lot of value. It's cheap, puts a minion on the board, and gives you another card for a 2/1 minion when it dies.
2x Chaos Strike
Good for removing a pesky unit or a face strike while drawing another card. Don't forget you can add one extra attack with your Hero Power.
2x Loot Hoarder
Classic cheap minion and card draw.
2x Sightless Watcher
This is a great Demon Hunter card. It lets you choose 1 of 3 cards to be the next card you draw, letting you plan ahead to your next turn. Great for keeping up the tempo, helpful early or late game. It's also a demon, so it can benefit from the cost reduction of the Raging Felscreamer.
1x Eye Beam
Lifesteal is important to keep your health up, and the cost reduction with Outcast can be useful in a pinch.
1x Infested Goblin
Cheap taunt that gives you more cheap taunt cards when it dies and can keep your low health minions protected. Useful for Altruis the Outcast and Nethrandamus.
2x Satyr Overseer
One of my favorite cards to play, this 3-cost minion summons a 2/2 minion when your hero attacks. Use on turn 4 or with the Coin to combo with your Hero Power. Just keep in mind that its 2 health makes it very squishy.
1x Soul Cleave
Potential for 4 lifesteal damage and small board clear. I've occasionally found this card to be useful, but not as often as I anticipated.
1x Altruis the Outcast
This legendary is useful for board clearing while chipping away at the enemy hero. Best used with low cost cards such as Ur'zul Horror or the Scarab cards from Infested Goblin's deathrattle.
1x Illidari Felblade
Good for taking out high health enemy minions, and it can stick around another turn when it has Immune.
2x Raging Felscreamer
Very useful card that reduces the cost of the next demon you play by 2. This cost reduction remains until you play a demon, even if it's in a future turn or if this card is destroyed. Useful for Priestess of Fury or Hulking Overfiend.
1x Rustsworn Cultist
This card has been much more useful in this deck than I expected. Whenever you have a bunch of minions on the field, play it to give them all deathrattles to increase your staying power.
1x Glaivebound Adept
Use in combination with your Hero Power to hit anyone for 4 damage. Useful late game to remove high attack units or to bypass taunts to take down the enemy hero.
2x Wrathspike Brute
The Wrathspike Brute is a taunt that can board clear while also hitting the enemy hero. Keep in mind that it has to be attacked for its damage effect to work. Also, it's a demon for added utility.
1x Eccentric Scribe
High attack unit that summons 4 1/1s after death. Good to combo with Rustsworn Cultist and useful for Nethrandamus.
1x Khartut Defender
Taunt with a deathrattle that heals your hero. It has Reborn so it will be respawned after death with 1 health, allowing its healing deathrattle to work twice. Helpful late game to keep your hero alive.
1x Priestess of Fury
I really like this card because it deals damage the turn it is put down and will continue to do end-of-turn damage each turn until it is destroyed. Each 1 damage of the 6 is dealt independently, so it can act as a board clear or hit your opponent's face. Try to play this card early with the cost reduction from a Raging Felscreamer to get a jump on your opponent.
2x Hulking Overfiend
A 5/10 with rush that can attack again each time it kills a minion. Good for board clearing and can stick around to do future damage. Also a demon.
1x Anubisath Warbringer
This card has high attack and can save you late game if you're stuck with a whole bunch of low cost minions in your hand.
Very good high cost legendary to play late game. Ideally, you'll draw this card early because each time one of your minions dies while it's in your hand, the cost of the minions it will summon increases by 1. It can quickly ramp up so that you're essentially playing 3 high cost minions for the price of 1. This can really turn a game around if your opponent doesn't have enough ways to remove all 3.
The best strategy with this deck is to keep ramping up pressure on your opponent while clearing anything they throw at you. You'll have plenty of options each turn with a balanced deck, but you'll want to plan ahead, making efficient use of your Outcast cards and Sightless Watchers. Don't forget to use your 1-cost Hero Power whenever you have extra mana to clear 1 health units or chip away at your opponent.
