Who Is Roger?

Roger used to be an ordinary hunter with a humble heart. He was so kind that he never hunted any creature needlessly. But then, a monstrous wolf named White Tooth appeared in the Dark Forest. Roger couldn’t turn a blind eye to White Tooth and his evil pack because they gruesomely devoured countless innocent people. And so, while White Tooth was attacking a little girl in the forest, Roger saved the day by slicing the evil wolf in half. It was all over. Everything ended happily. At least, that was what everyone thought back then.

White Tooth was actually cursed by a powerful evil entity. The very moment Roger killed him, the curse transferred to his body. As a result, whenever the moon is full, Roger transforms into a werewolf. From that day onward, life was never the same for Roger.

What This Guide Covers

This guide not only lists all of Roger’s skills and abilities, it also expands on each one of them and details some tips on how to use them effectively. With this knowledge in tow, you can march forward to the battlefield and slaughter everyone in cold blood as the Dire Wolf Hunter, Roger!

Roger’s Skills and Abilities

Full Moon Curse (Passive Skill)

Open Fire (1st Skill)

Lycan Pounce (Alternative 1st Skill)

Hunter’s Steps (2nd Skill)

Bloodthirsty Howl (Alternative 2nd Skill)

Wolf Transformation (Ultimate Skill)

Restore Human Form (Alternative Ultimate Skill)

Full Moon Curse (Passive Skill)

With the curse of the full moon, Roger manifests different abilities depending on his form. In human form, he gains range, and his basic attack reduces enemy movement speed by 20%. In wolf form, he becomes a melee fighter, and his basic attack deals extra damage equal to 5% of the enemy’s lost HP. Note that the extra damage dealt by Roger’s wolf form can only add up to 60 points against jungle monsters.

Since Roger’s different forms provide him with various benefits, it is best to shift forms depending on the situation. For defensive play and early-game laning, Roger’s human form is the most suitable form to use due to its range and its ‘slow’ debuff. For chasing enemy heroes and jungling, Roger’s wolf form is the most suitable form to use due the extra power it offers and its hero-killing potential.

Open Fire (1st Skill)

With Open Fire, Roger shoots twice, dealing 300 [+120% Total Physical Attack] physical damage in total. The first shot releases a trap net that slows down the first enemy it hits, while the second shot penetrates the armor of the enemy by 10 points.

  • Level 1: 300 Base Damage, 10 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 70 Mana Consumption
  • Level 2: 360 Base Damage, 14 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 80 Mana Consumption
  • Level 3: 420 Base Damage, 18 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 90 Mana Consumption
  • Level 4: 480 Base Damage, 22 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 100 Mana Consumption
  • Level 5: 540 Base Damage, 26 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 110 Mana Consumption
  • Level 6: 600 Base Damage, 30 Physical Penetration, 7 Seconds Cooldown, 120 Mana Consumption

Open Fire is a great harassing skill. It not only reduces the movement speed of an enemy, it also deals considerable damage. However, it can be quite difficult to target this skill. It only affects the first target it hits, so be sure to aim it properly to harness its full effect. If you can get close to your target before you activate this skill, then you're all set! Shooting at point-blank range is the most effective way to ensure that this skill hits.

Lycan Pounce (Alternative 1st Skill)

With Lycan Pounce, Roger jumps towards an area and attacks up to 3 enemy heroes indiscriminately, dealing 300 [+120% Total Physical Attack] physical damage and becoming virtually invincible during the duration of the attack. Making a kill or an assist reduces the cooldown of this skill by 80%.

  • Level 1: 300 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 110 Mana Consumption
  • Level 2: 360 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 120 Mana Consumption
  • Level 3: 420 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 130 Mana Consumption
  • Level 4: 480 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 140 Mana Consumption
  • Level 5: 540 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 150 Mana Consumption
  • Level 6: 600 Base Damage, 15 Seconds Cooldown, 160 Mana Consumption

Lycan Pounce is Roger’s most damaging skill. It is easy to aim, and it can even hit multiple targets. The best thing about this skill is that it gives Roger temporary invincibility throughout its effect duration.

Lycan Pounce is mostly used to chase and kill. As its range is fairly reasonable, always use this skill to go for the kill. Note that by snagging a kill or an assist with this skill, its cooldown decreases by a considerable amount. This means that you can go on a rampage as long as you can, granted that you can ensure that you can take part in all the deaths of your enemies.

Hunter’s Steps (2nd Skill)

With the agility of a hunter, Roger can increase his movement speed by 50% for 2.5 seconds at will.

  • Level 1: 10 Seconds Cooldown, 50 Mana Consumption
  • Level 2: 9.6 Seconds Cooldown, 55 Mana Consumption
  • Level 3: 9.2 Seconds Cooldown, 60 Mana Consumption
  • Level 4: 8.8 Seconds Cooldown, 65 Mana Consumption
  • Level 5: 8.4 Seconds Cooldown, 70 Mana Consumption
  • Level 6: 8 Seconds Cooldown, 75 Mana Consumption

Hunter’s Steps can be used for either chasing or escaping. After all, its primary use is to increase overall mobility. Since its cooldown and mana consumption are very low, it can be used almost every time to get a semi-permanent boost in movement speed as long as Roger remains in his human form.

Bloodthirsty Howl (Alternative 2nd Skill)

Roger lets out a loud howl, increasing his attack speed by 15% for 4 seconds. If there’s an enemy hero with less than 40% HP in the nearby vicinity around him, Roger gains an increase of 50% in movement speed. The duration of the effect of this skill increases as Roger deals damage on the enemies.

  • Level 1: 10 Seconds Cooldown, 50 Mana Consumption
  • Level 2: 9.6 Seconds Cooldown, 55 Mana Consumption
  • Level 3: 9.2 Seconds Cooldown, 60 Mana Consumption
  • Level 4: 8.8 Seconds Cooldown, 65 Mana Consumption
  • Level 5: 8.4 Seconds Cooldown, 70 Mana Consumption
  • Level 6: 8 Seconds Cooldown, 75 Mana Consumption

Bloodthirsty Howl is a must-use skill for the times you’re trying to go for the kill. Not only will Roger’s attack speed increase significantly, his movement speed will also rise if any enemy hero's HP drops below 40%. Ultimately, this skill is meant for chasing. If there are enemy heroes nearby whose HP meters are below 40%, then they’re good as dead with Roger mercilessly hunting them down in the same area.

Wolf Transformation (Ultimate Skill)

Allowing the curse of the full moon to manifest, Roger leaps forward, dealing 200 [+100% Total Physical Attack] physical damage to the enemies and reducing their movement speed by 90% for 1.5 seconds. In the process, Roger transforms into a wolf, gaining an increase of 25 points in armor, magic resistance, and movement speed.

  • Level 1: 200 Base Damage, 25 Armor and Magic Resistance, 6 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 2: 300 Base Damage, 50 Armor and Magic Resistance, 5.5 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 3: 400 Base Damage, 75 Armor and Magic Resistance, 5 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 4: 500 Base Damage, 100 Armor and Magic Resistance, 4.5 Seconds Cooldown

Wolf Transformation is all about offense! When you’re ready to pounce on your enemies and snuff the life out of them, use this skill to considerably raise your damage capacity, as well as deal some significant initial damage and a major reduction in movement speed for the enemies. The increase in armor, magic resistance, and movement speed also helps in surviving team clashes and serious bouts with the enemies.

Restore Human Form (Alternative Ultimate Skill)

Lifting the curse of the full moon, Roger rolls towards a specified direction, generating a shield that can absorb 200 [+200% Total Physical Attack] damage for 1.5 seconds.

  • Level 1: 200 Base Damage Absorbed, 6 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 2: 300 Base Damage Absorbed, 5.5 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 3: 400 Base Damage Absorbed, 5 Seconds Cooldown
  • Level 4: 500 Base Damage Absorbed, 4.5 Seconds Cooldown

Restore Human Form has the power to save Roger whenever he’s in a pinch. As this skill generates a shield for him, it should be used whenever he is in grave danger. This is quite a useful escape skill. It allows some extra maneuverability and works really well with Open Fire and Hunter’s Footsteps. One good strategy to employ for a successful escape is to use this skill, then follow up with a Open Fire to slow down any pursuer, and finally use Hunter’s Footsteps to run away to safety.
