Getting the best commanders in Rise of Kingdoms can be quite costly. You'll have to invest significant amounts of money if you want to be one of the best in your own kingdom, or probably one of the best among all kingdoms. As Rise of Kingdoms gets more competitive, and as more commanders gets introduced to the game, you'll have to loosen your budget belt if you want to be on top of the game.

Rise of Kingdoms is indeed a pay to win game, but it certainly doesn’t mean there is no hope for free to play (F2P) players in the game. F2P players can significantly impact the battlefield as much as how P2P players can impact the battlefield. You just have to know the best commanders and the best commander pairings to bring into the battlefield to create that impact in the game.

How? Well, through this F2P Commander Guide, we will go over the best commanders that F2P players need to focus and invest on. Also, we will also go over on how much sculptures you need to invest on them and how should you pair these commanders as you unlock and power up each of the recommended commanders.

Best Epic Commanders to Invest in "Rise of Kingdoms"

Before we get to the best legendary commanders in Rise of Kingdoms, let’s first dive into our list of best epic commanders in the game. A lot of you might have already known the great value of a few of our epic commanders, but still, there are still a few number of players who doesn’t know the value of these commanders. In fact, some of them can actually replace a other legendary commanders for pairings. Anyway, here are a few epic commanders that you should invest and max out first in the game:

Eulji Mundeok

Aethelfaed, Mehmed, YSG

Sun Tzu is definitely one of the best epic commanders in the Rise of Kingdoms. In fact, he can be an excellent pair to a lot of commanders due to his exceptional skills. His ability to deal significant AOE damage without any damage reduction is a powerful ability especially when you are participating in field battles. He can easily output huge amounts of damage through the AOE damage that he provides to the battle. Not only that, he also has an exceptional rage restoration ability which will certainly supplement any pairing with a powerful nuking commander.

You might consider pairing him with infantry commanders due to his infantry specialization, but it doesn't really matter if you’re not going to pair him with an infantry commander. However, for this F2P march recommendation, we will initially recommend Eulji Mundeok as a secondary commander to Sun Tzu. Eulji has excellent debuff, infantry buffs and nuking skill which will supplement Sun Tzu’s Skill. Also, we will keep Sun Tzu the primary commander in order to benefit from the Infantry and Skill Talent Trees for this combo.

2.) Pelagius

Baibars, Sun Tzu

Cao Cao

Pelagius is almost like Sun Tzu due to his excellent nuking skill and rage restoration ability, but he is specialized to cavalry-only troops rather than infantry-only troops. Aside from his active skill ability, he also has excellent cavalry buffs and healing skills which will help him sustain damage in the battlefield. This allows him to keep fighting on the battlefield while being able to deal significant amount of damage to his enemy. These certainly makes him one the best epic commanders in the game.

An ideal pairing for Pelagius would be Baibars. Baibars also is an excellent nuking cavalry commander. Plus, he has an AOE nuking skill which will significantly increase the damage output capability of their pairing. But what I also like about him is that he can decrease the target’s march speed. Thus, this allows the targeted opponent to be vulnerable against approaching marches. With Pelagius and Baibars pairing, any enemy archer march will feel their impact in the battlefield.

Kusunoki, Osman

El Cid, YSG

Hermann is considered as one of the best debuffing commanders in Rise of Kingdoms. Also, he is one of the best archer commanders in the the game. In fact, he was recognized as better than El Cid due to his powerful nuking skill which also silences and reduces the target’s rage. He also has rage restoration which is certainly helpful to any powerful nuking commander.

Kusunoki is an ideal epic commander pairing for Hermann. Both of these commanders are powerful nuking archer commanders so they will definitely output huge amounts of nuking damage.

Belisarius, Sun Tzu, Joan

Charles Martel, YSG

Aethelfaed is probably the easiest legendary commander you can max out for F2P players. Her sculptures are available in Expedition Mode. Thus, you could easily max her out in less than 250 days of playing the game. She might be easy to max out even for F2P players, but it certainly doesn’t mean that she's not valuable. In fact, she is still used by P2P players. What I really like about her is her powerful AOE nuking damage and powerful debuffing abilities.

Joan is an excellent pairing for Aethaelfaed. She supplements the debuff provided by Aethaelfaed through her buffs.

Richard I is one of the most utilized commanders in open-field battles. His superb damage sustain ability and AOE debuffs easily make him one of the best defensive commanders in the game. Yes, an expertised Richard I will be a game changer in the battlefield, but if you’re an F2P player, then you can just max out his first 2 skills.

Yi Seong-Gye is definitely one of the best commanders in the game. Also, he is probably the most universal commander in Rise of Kingdoms. The amount of damage output he deals is phenomenal. He deals huge amount of AOE nuking damage to multiple opponent which certainly can hurt any nearby march. Plus, he has his own rage restoration skill to increase his spamming ability. And yes, despite being an archer commander, he can be used with any type of marches. However, you will have to invest more on this commander to make the best out of him. We recommend expertising YSG.

Richard I, YSG, Guan Yu

Like Richard I, Alex is known for his excellent damage sustain ability. He also can provide a shield to his ally to provide support in the battlefield. He doesn’t get affected with damage reduction debuffs; thereby, this allows him to be an effective damage dealer in the battlefield whilst being sustainable to damage.

William I is an excellent cavalry commander which you can use for a minimum investment. He is a fairly new commander but he has definitely proven that he is an excellent commander even if he is not expertised. Thus, this makes him also a great investment for F2P players.

Best Legendary Commanders from Legendary Chests

The following legendary commanders are great investments for F2P players. However, sculptures from these commanders can be earned for free from the legendary chests; thus, it is best to save your legendary sculptures for legendary commanders that are not rewarded from the legendary chests.

Also, the number of sculptures recommended in this list refers to the minimum skill investment recommended for each legendary commander.

Sun Tzu, Pelagius, Aethelfaed

Mehmed II is a bit similar to YSG. They both have powerful AOE nuking skills and they don’t really need a special type of troop in order to maximize their full potential. Mehmed II also only needs his first 2 skills to be maximized in order to utilize him in the battlefield.

El Cid might be having a bad image to the community, but it doesn’t mean he is useless. If you can at least max out first of his 3 skills, he will certainly make an impact in the battlefield. His powerful nuking skills will deal huge outputs of damage to the opposing team. And if paired with YSG, then the enemy will surely feel the wrath of El Cid and YSG combo.
