Rejoice F2P players in Rise of Kingdoms, the arrival of William I is totally a game changer for all of the governors in Rise of Kingdoms. Why? Well, he is an excellent legendary cavalry commander that requires minimum amount of investment. Although unlocking all of his skills is recommended, you can still maximize his potential by just maxing his first 2-3 skills. Even with William I's low legendary sculpture investment, he will still be a great asset to the battlefield. And this is exactly why he will be a great investment for F2P players. However, as great as he may seem, he won't be that effective without the right talents. Don’t you worry though, we will show you the best way to build his talents through this William I Talent Tree Build Guide.
How to Unlock William I?
Governors, who are going into their 5th Kingdom vs Kingdom event, should be able to unlock William I. He is usable in kingdoms which have opened for more than 310 days. Here are ways you can unlock William I in Rise of Kingdoms:
- Wheel of Fortune – William I is available as a reward in the Wheel of Fortune event. You’ll just have to try your luck and see how many gems you’ll have to spend in order to unlock William I and level up his skills.
- Card King Event – Like any other legendary commanders, William I will surely be available in the Card King Event soon if you didn’t have the chance to unlock him through the Wheel of Fortune event.
Guide to William I Skills
To learn how to build William I's Talents properly, it is also very important to know his skills. Here are William I's skills:
- Hidden Bloodline - Deal damage to up to 3 targets in a forward-facing rectangle area (Damage Factor: 1500). Damage dealt to each target is reduced by 15% for each additional target after the first. Attacked troops’ extra skill damage from buffs cannot take effect, and their march speed is reduced by 30% for 3 seconds.
- Charge of Hastings - All cavalry units led by this commander gain 20% increased attack and 15% increased march speed. When outside of alliance territory, troops led by this commander deal 10% increased damage.
- Norman Conquest - While on the map, all commanded cavalry units’ attack is increased by 20%, and normal attacks have a 10% chance to inflict direct damage to the target (Damage Factor 800). If the target is surrounded, it will take extra damage (Damage Factor: number of surrounding troops x 80). Up to 5 surrounding troops are counted when calculating this extra damage.
- Scourge of the North - When “Hidden Bloodline” hits a target, this commander’s troops gain 20% increased defense for 3 seconds. When “Hidden Bloodline” hits two or more targets, all this commander’s troops and nearby allied troops gain 10% increased defense and 50 rage per second for 3 seconds.
- Judgement Day (Expertise) - While on the map, all commanded cavalry units’ attack is increased by 30%, and normal attacks have a 10% chance to inflict direct damage to the target (Damage Factor 1000). If the target is surrounded, it will take extra damage (Damage Factor: number of surrounding troops x 100). Up to 5 surrounding troops are counted when calculating this extra damage.
Looking at William I's skills, you’ll notice that his first 3 skills are the only ones you'll need to deal significant nuking damage to your opponent. Although his expertise skill does improve his third skill, the amount of additional legendary sculptures you need to spend is not really worth it. The same goes with his fourth skill. The bonus damage sustain ability is great, but you don't have to waste your limited amount of legendary sculptures to maximize this skill. These are the reasons why you only need to max out his first 2-3 skills if you are saving legendary sculptures for other commanders. But if not, then go ahead and max out all his skills to fully unlock his potential. Either way, he will still contribute largely in open-field battles through his powerful nuking abilities.
William I’s first skills is incredibly powerful. He can deal up to 1500 Direct Damage Factor of up to 3 targets which means he can potentially output huge amounts of damage. Plus, it has an added march speed reduction effect which is totally useful during open-field battles. On top of that, both his 2nd skill, Charge of Hastings, and 3rd skill, Norman Conquest, further increases his cavalry-only troop’s offensive abilities. These skill damage bonuses make him a very powerful nuking commander even when only of his 2-3 skills are maxed.
However, William I lacks defensive skills. Most of his skills are damage oriented. To start off with this talent build, we will have to work our way in the Attack Talent Tree. Unlock Effortless, Fight to the Death and Lord of War to ramp up his offensive ability. Also, take Burning Blood for rage restoration and Armored Joints to reduce all damage taken. Armored Joints is totally helpful to William I considering that he lacks defensive oriented skills.
We’ve completed his Attack Talent Tree so we will proceed with this talent build guide to the Cavalry Talent Tree. The Versatility Talent Tree isn’t that exceptional for William I. Thus, we will have to skip this talent tree and we will spend all of the remaining talents in the Cavalry Talent Tree.

This Nuking Talent Tree Build Guide for William I recommends working your way up to unlocking Undying Fury, Disarm and Emblazoned Shield.
