Noble Phantasms in "Fate/Stay Night"
In Fate, mages summon famous heroes throughout history to duel in a battle royale, with the winner receiving a wish from the mystical Holy Grail. Heroic Spirits are summoned in a variety of classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
They also wield unique ultimate techniques called Noble Phantasms. Many of these release devastating attacks, but some are passive or defensive in nature—which reign supreme? These are the 30 best Noble Phantasms throughout the Fate/stay night universe!
30. God Hand
Heracles, or Hercules, is one of the strongest servants of all time thanks to his weapons mastery and fame boost. He's also bolstered by his passive God Hand Noble Phantasm (NP), which gives him eleven extra lives! That's right, to really take him down, you have to kill Heracles 12 times, and with different methods since he becomes resistant to attacks he faces.
As if that weren't enough, God Hand also blocks all attacks of B-rank or less, and Heracles's stockpile of lives can regenerate with enough time.
Saber's most famous for her golden sword, but her sheath is nearly as useful. Avalon grants near-instantaneous regeneration, to the point where destroying her brain is the only way to eliminate her. Saber can also transfer Artoria to others, letting her protect her allies, and it even has a use in everyday life, preventing physical deterioration via natural aging.
28. Decisive Blade - Endless Three-Stage
User: Okita Souji Alter
This mysterious sword attack involves three beams of light collecting into one infinite attack, said to be so powerful it can even destroy things that don't exist or can't normally be damaged.
User: Bazett Fraga McRemitz

Called the ultimate counterattack, Fragarach can only be activated when an opponent uses their strongest attack, meaning its wielder has to pressure their foe into unleashing a Noble Phantasm. Once they do, Fragarach unleashes a curse that warps causality to strike the opponent's heart with a concentrated blast.
Fragarach does have some counters, like foes who can survive losing their heart or won't use their ultimate, but when it works, it's guaranteed to strike first, protecting Bazett from counterattack.
26. Gate of Skye
Gate of Skye summons a giant portal to the Land of Shadows, sucking inside and killing all foes who fail a luck or mana check. Scáthach can exclude targets from its range, and even someone who resists the attack has their mana drained. Plus, Scáthach can even use it defensively by hiding inside the shadow land when wounded.
25. Wandering Tales of Shana-oh
What makes this NP great isn't its raw power but its versatility, letting Ushiwakamaru pick from five options:
- Eye of Shiva: Relocates enemies and allies as desired
- Usumidori: Exceptionally fast sword slash
- Benkei: Summons a shield that can block B-rank or below Noble Phantasms
- Dan-no-Ura: Leap across the field at ridiculous speed
- Hoemaru: Repels demons and unleashes a sonic attack
24. Sword of Paracelsus
User: Paracelsus von Hohenheim
This awesome blade's first power is to store mana, improving its wielder's magecraft. But more than that, it contains an elixir that snatches an enemy's magic for Paracelsus's own use.
23. Ochd Deug Odin
User: Cú Chulainn
Cú Chulainn is best known for his Lancer form, but when summoned as a Caster, he can unleash Odin's rune for a devastating and widespread magic attack. Even if someone survives it, they have their parameters decreased by a rank, buffs are dispelled, and their own Noble Phantasms are temporarily sealed.
22. Gáe Bolg
User: Cú Chulainn
As Lancer, Cú can unleash his ultimate in one of two devastating attacks. The first can only hit a single target, but is guaranteed to strike their heart, reversing cause and effect to where the heart-piercing effect happens before the cause. It's also an incredibly mana-efficient NP, able to be used seven times without rest.
But if Cú needs a wider range or to blast through a shield, he can fire Soaring Spear that Strikes with Death, which can hit over 30 targets with enormous strength.
21. Clarent Blood Arthur
Mordred's ultimate attack works similarly to King Arthur's, firing a powerful sword beam. Hers is slightly more narrow and crimson-colored, but it's still an awesome power that manages to overpower even Siegfried's fierce Balmung.
20. Ionioi Hetairoi
Iskandar, or Alexander the Great, shows off his charisma with his own Reality Marble, summoning a landscape that contains his former army reincarnated as e-rank Servants. With devastating numbers, he can completely overwhelm practically any foe, only weak against anti-world attacks able to wipe out his entire force.
19. Fairy Snow Photon Ray
User: Altera Larva
Altera's Photon Ray attack has many variations, perhaps the strongest being Fairy Snow. It has God of War Ares's three-colored blade, said to be able to wipe out all existence, fire a sweeping energy beam. Altera also gains wings during the attack, further increasing her mobility.
User: Artoria Pendragon
King Arthur's infamous blade gathers enormous amounts of mana to unleash a wide energy beam that can overpower all but the strongest attacks. It does leave Artoria drained, and is easily visible to other Servants, so she must carefully time its usage, but her stamina can be quickly restored with Avalon.
17. Excalibur Morgan
User: Saber Alter
Excalibur Morgan differs from the base attack not only in tone, utilizing darkness instead of light, but also energy, as Saber Alter can use it multiple times in succession (though this may be the result of having access to Sakura's impressive mana reserves rather than a trait of the attack).
16. Charitas Domus Aurora
User: Saber Venus
In this attack, Nero's base NP, Aestus Domus Aurea, traps her target. Then, as Saber Venus, she fires a pillar of light with Altera's Photon Ray in an attack strong enough to overwhelm even multidimensional defenses.
15. Unlimited Blade Works
User: Shirou Emiya
Emiya's infamous Reality Marble summons a world where he can easily recreate any blade, letting him summon as many swords and spears as his mana allows. With greater effort, he can also replicate shields and even copy most Noble Phantasm weapons. It's one of few counters to Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon, and it also has an odd defensive ability that (with Avalon's help) lets Shirou heal wounds with metal, increasing his durability.
14. Etherspace, Howbeit the Orde
User: Mysterious Heroine XX
This divine attack unleashes the holy spear Rhongomyniad's sealed power, exploding both its victim and the planet they're on. Yikes. It's also noted to be particularly effective against Sabers, often considered the strongest Servant class.
13. Gate of Babylon
Gilgamesh definitely has some of the best Noble Phantasms around. His Gate contains almost all other NP weapons, which he can fire from range at tremendous speed. Combined with low energy cost, the Gate grants unrivaled ranged attack power, especially since many of the weapons within have special properties (like the Enkidu chains that bind divine targets).
12. Uomo Universale
User: Leonardo da Vinci
Dubbed a specialty-made Noble Phantasm, Uomo Universale analyzes the target to unleash a magic strike best-suited for defeating them, effectively becoming whatever attack it needs to be.
11. Reincarnation Pandora
This lethal ability rips its victim's own Noble Phantasm away from them, which doesn't return even if Alcides is defeated. It actually damages the target's Saint Graph (spiritual core), and the only way to heal is to be resummoned in a future Grail War.
10. Samsara Kama
This odd attack involves Kama releasing copies of herself in all direction to burn the universe with her passion. It's a true doomsday move with more than enough power to end existence.
9. The Pilgrimage of the Five Hundred Arhat
User: Musashibou Benkei
This mystical attack summons 500 nirvana-enlightened soldiers to cross over planes of existence, bringing along any foe with fails a resistance check. Its power is such that it's described as instantaneous death magic.
8. Loptr Laegjarn
Loptr is the strongest attack of the sun-infused sword Laevatein, so mighty it's classified as anti-world, anti-divine, and anti-life. Utilizing flames over 4 million degrees Celsius, it incinerates all matter in the present, making it an apocalyptic move if released in earnest.
7. Enuma Elish
Gilgamesh normally just uses his easily-maintained Gate of Babylon to snipe foes, but against those he deems worthy, he'll fire his world-ending Enuma Elish. Using his sword Ea, he creates a wide space-time disruption that pierces practically any defense, overwhelming even Excalibur in power.
6. Edin Shugra Quasar
User: Space Ishtar
In this world-ending strike, Ishtar summons the goddess Bel Maanna, who uses the energy of the Milky Way galaxy to burn away space.
5. Amita Amitābha
While Amita Amitābha can only affect one person at a time, its strength grows as the length of human history increases, gradually gaining power already categorized as EX rank. It deals damage that no living being can withstand, with only a few special undead foes able to possible survive it.
4. Cursed Cutting Crater
BB's strongest technique rewrites space with a powerful curse, purging reality into nothingness.
3. All the World's Desire
User: Kiara Sessyoin
The "most heinous" of Noble Phantams, Kiara's demon form moves the souls of all mankind into her body, creating a whirl of energy that instantly melts humanity.
2. Ars Almadel Salomonis
Type: Anti-Human Order
Ars Almadel fires millions of beams of light, each almost as strong as Excalibur! Its raw power makes it the strongest energy source in the universe, said to give a power rivaling even Primordial Goddess Tiamat.
User: Arjuna Alter
With this unrivaled technique, Arjuna's god form destroys the world, then rewrites it, effectively letting him remove things he doesn't want and replace those he does. Sherlock Holmes even comments calling it a Noble Phantasm doesn't do the technique justice.
Other Noble Phantasms in Fate
With hundreds of powerful Noble Phantasms to explore, limiting today's list to just 30 was surprisingly tough. Many techniques narrowly missed the cut, like Vlad's Legend of Dracula and Karna's Vasavi Shakti. There's also each Servant's individual skills to consider, but for now, vote for your favorite NP and I'll see you at our next Fate countdown!
