1. Castle Clash: A Fast-Paced Game

The Details

Castle Clash is a free-to-play strategy game. It is among the top 10 mobile games in the US, and constantly garners positive reviews from happy gamers. It shares striking similarities with Supercell’s CoC and there are many CoC vs Castle Clash debates all over the Internet. That said, this awesome game is more than just a clone. It has a distinct appeal that has attracted over 30 million players worldwide.

In Castle Clash, you get to play as a Warlord, building the most powerful empire of all. You can hire mythical creatures to aid you in your battles, from huge beasts to small but lethal beings. As you upgrade your fortress and troops, you can engage in exciting battles against other players in the Arena.

My Verdict

The combat system is fast-paced and realistic, promising an epic gaming experience that is undeniably addictive.

2. Viking Wars: Awesome Graphics

The Details

Viking Wars is a relatively unpopular game, but its compelling gameplay twists are sure to attract more gamers.

As the title suggests, in this game you control and build your own troop of Vikings, defending your town against invaders and invading enemy tribes. You can strengthen your base by upgrading watch towers and cannons. You make tactical defensive strategies to ward off enemy troops and can storm your enemy’s territory and launch a fearsome attack before they retaliate. The battles are real-time and as a bonus, you can watch replays anytime you want to help devise better strategies for your next attack.

My Verdict

Viking Wars has outstanding graphics which are definitely better than similar games in this genre. If you read the reviews over at the Play Store, you will see tons of comments from users saying that Viking Wars is even better than CoC. That speaks volumes to how great this game truly is.

3. Jungle Heat: Action-Packed

The Details

Jungle Heat is like an action movie turned into a combat strategy game. You will see guys and girls with bulging biceps carrying huge guns, ready to defend their base. Your objective is to take control of the tropics, which is rich with oil and gold. However, the marauders stand in your way and will not just allow you to take over the jungle.

The battles in this game are simple but highly entertaining. You can create a formidable military base and defend it against your enemies, update your troops to increase their firepower, and play multiple heroes, each with their own unique capabilities. Another great feature for Jungle Heat is that it’s a cross-platform game, meaning you can play it on any device or social network and pick up where you left off.

My Verdict

This game feels like an action movie and has extremely fun battles. The added bonus of being able to play it on many platforms makes it just that much better.

4. Star Wars: Commander

The Details

Ever fancy swinging a light saber to defend your base? Or dream of watching as Stormtroopers duke it out against Droids in the land of Tatooine? Now you can by playing Star Wars: Commander, the game with which Disney and Lucasfilm bring the celebrated Star Wars franchise into the mobile strategy realm. Many will dismiss this as just another Clash of Clans clone, but it actually improves on Clash of Clans by adding exciting features and eliminating other ones in order to offer a better gaming experience. Plus if you’re a Star Wars fan, you simply must check this game out.

At the beginning of the game, you get to choose which side you want to play on, either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. Though the gameplay doesn't really differ based on the faction, the narrative certainly does.

My Verdict

This is a great game full of twists and exciting features that makes it feel like Clash of Clans but in a sci-fi setting. Star Wars: Commander offers a very refreshing twist to the base-building genre.

5. Call of Duty: Heroes

The Details

Call of Duty is one of the most popular shooter games ever, and the franchise has now entered the field of mobile strategy games. Call of Duty: Heroes is a free-to-play combat strategy game exclusively available for iOS. If you’re a fan of both FPS and CoC, then you'll be thrilled by this news. You now get to play your favorite heroes and soldiers, build a powerful base, and lead your army into the thick of battle on your mobile device.

Captain Price, Soap, and Harper are only a handful of iconic characters that you can play in this game. You start out with a small outpost, gradually building it into the most dominant fortress you can. Specialize your units and control Juggernauts, Dragonfires, and CLAWs to help you unleash Killstreaks. You can also team up with your friends to complete challenges and get rewards.

My Verdict

This is a must for any Call of Duty fans out there.

6. Clash of Lords 2: A Popular Game

The Details

Clash of Lords 2 has over 500,000 ratings on the PlayStore, making it one of the most popular games with themes similar to Clash of Clans. What makes this game stand out is how simple and easy the gameplay is. With all the base-building games out there, CoL 2 offers a fresh spin in this somewhat overplayed genre.

Tired of training your units? Then forget about it! In Clash of Lords 2, there’s no need for training. You get to engage in exciting battles right from the start, and there’s no turning back as there are five battle modes all filled with non-stop action and mayhem. Play multiple heroes and form guilds with your friends to make your adventures even more exciting.

My Verdict

This is one of the most popular games like Clash of Clans out there. It's action-packed, so make sure to try this game out and invite your friends!

7. Boom Beach

The Details

Boom Beach comes from the makers of CoC, which means another epic strategy game that promises countless hours of exhilarating gameplay. This hit title from Supercell has tons of positive reviews which is proof of how popular this game is. As the developers say, are you ready for the BOOM?

The game takes place in an enormous tropical archipelago. Your task is to lead your troops in defending and invading the beautiful islands, which are home to ancient powers. You engage in war against the evil Blackguard. Each island is unique, promising a different experience each time. Face boss enemies, raid other players’ bases and gather as much treasure as you can.

My Verdict

Supercell has knocked it out of the park again with this endlessly varied game.

8. Galaxy Life: Pocket Adventures

The Details

Galaxy Life is a social game originally built for Facebook which is now available on the App Store. The gameplay is similar to other strategy games, but what sets Galaxy Life apart from the rest of the competition is its cute graphics that will make you think you're watching a Disney film.

In Galaxy Life, you build a space colony with adorable little starlings. Once it's built, you defend your colony from others seeking to destroy it, and you can also train your soldiers to attack enemy structures. The combat system is rather simplistic: you just position your soldiers and watch them put their skills to the test.

My Verdict

Although there really isn't much of a difference in gameplay, Galaxy Life is still an enjoyable game, with very cute graphics and large population of players.

9. Pocket Fort

The Details

Pocket Fort is a tower defense game that is loved by tons of casual gamers worldwide. With a slew of powerful new troops, the game has never been more exciting.

Like in other base-building games, you spend resources to expand your structures and train your units. The single player mode does a fine job of testing how ready you are to battle against other players. See how polished your offensive skills are by attacking pirates. Once you’re ready, wage war in multiplayer mode and conquer other players’ forts.

My Verdict

This game's only downside is that development is relatively slow, decreasing its replay value by a lot. Even though it can’t match up to the amount of content other games have, it can still offer enjoyable gameplay for fans of the genre.

Thanks for including some of the more obscure games! Viking Wars is really breathtaking and I would've likely never stumbled upon it on my own.
