The Assassin is a powerful class that utilizes martial arts.

The Assassin is a more technical class due to using martial arts that require you to use different types of skills. A easier way to play this class is by focusing on traps by planting multiple stationary sentries. You can let them do the killing.

In case you're not aware, Assassin can open a locked chest without needing any keys.

1. Lightning Trapsin Build

Trapsin specializes in planting traps and letting them do the damage. You can either lure the enemies to move within the trap's range or just directly plant it near them. It focuses on laying sentries that shoot lightning.

Skills

  • Lightning Sentry (Max): The main skill for this build. The planted sentry shoots lightning in a straight line that pierces through enemies. Multiple planted Lightning Sentries can cause massive devastation to mobs and bosses.
  • Death Sentry (Max): Death Sentry consumes a nearby corpse to create a corpse explosion that deals damage based on the corpse's life before it was killed. This sentry shoots lightning as well, but it's not as damaging as Lightning Sentry.
  • Shock Web (Max): Max this skill to give damage synergy to Lightning Sentry.
  • Charged Bolt Sentry (Max): Max this skill to give damage synergy to Lightning Sentry.
  • Shadow Master (Max): This can assist you in dealing damage and distracting opponents.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): For increasing movement speed. It comes in handy when traveling.

Stat Points Distribution

  • Dexterity: This build is using a shield. Put points here until max block is attained.
  • Vitality: The majority of your points should be placed here.
  • Energy: This is optional since mana potions and equipment can cover for this.

Monsters that are immune to lightning damage can easily be dealt with by hiring an Act 2 Desert Mercenary. Be sure to give them a polearm with Infinity Rune Word (Ber, Mal, Ber, Ist).

2. Kicksin Build

This is the most simple martial arts build for Assassin since you don't need to use combos or know martial arts mechanics for the build to be effective. You can just mindlessly spam Dragon Talon until the enemy dies. This build relies on boots instead of weapons in dealing damage. Weapon affinities still work though.

Skills

  • Dragon Talon (Max): The main skill that you'll be using to deal damage from the beginning until the endgame. Dragon Talon uses a flurry of kicks to deal high damage with an excellent attack rating. It's a really effective boss killer. When it comes to your equipment, its damage is based on your boots, not on your weapon.
  • Venom (Max): This is the buff that you'll be using most of the time. Venom grants extra poison damage to your attacks that work with Dragon Talon. This is useful when dealing with physical immune monsters.
  • Burst of Speed (Max): Use this buff to make your travel time more convenient.
  • Shadow Warrior (Max): This serves as your duplicate and aids you in dealing damage.
  • Cobra Strike (1 point or more): Your only charge-up skill that lets you steal life and mana.
  • Dragon Flight (1 point): Used as gap closer. One point on this skill is enough.
  • Death Sentry (Remaining skill points): You'll be using Death Sentry for physical immune monsters. It has a corpse explosion-like capability that deals damage based on the corpse life before it was killed.

3. Phoenix Martial Artist Build

This build is also known as the Elementalist Assassin. The Phoenix build is the most complicated Assassin to play since it requires more familiarization on specific details. You'll need to develop muscle memory for switching between different skills. As a reward for all the trouble, this build is proficient in unleashing fire, lightning, and cold damage. Having the ability to unleash three types of elements means you won't have any problems dealing with monsters that have immunity.

Skills

  • Phoenix Strike (Max): This is the Swiss army knife of this build. The type of damage it does is based on the number of charges you release. Releasing a single charge will cast a meteor that leaves a fire on the ground. This is useful for enemies like bosses. A two-charges release will cast multiple chain lightning that can clean up mobs. Releasing three charges will cast a flurry of ice bolts that will freeze or chill mobs. This is good for crowd control.
  • Fists of Fire (Max): Max this to increase the fire damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Claws of Thunder (Max): Max this to increase the lightning damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Blades of Ice (Max): Max this to increase the cold damage of Phoenix Strike.
  • Shadow Warrior (Max): This will mimic your moves on this build. This will make you deal more elemental damage per second.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): This increases your attack speed and movement speed.

4. Claw Build

This is a well-versed build that deals high damage with great sustainability and defense. This is also known as the Vampire build for its ability to leach a high amount of life and mana. This build is highly effective on dealing with bosses in Diablo II: Resurrected.

Skills

  • Claw Mastery (Max): This increases your damage and attack rating when using a claw-class weapon. It also provides a chance to inflict critical strike. This is a powerful passive skill for claw wielders.
  • Weapon Block (9 points): This provides a chance to block incoming attacks and some magic. It's like having a shield. This passive has diminishing returns, so putting more points on it is not worth the investment. It only works if you're wielding a claw-class weapon on both hands. Your dexterity and chance to block doesn't increase its effect either.
  • Tiger Strike (Max): With Tiger Strike, you can deal an insane amount of damage to big bosses.
  • Dragon Claw (Max): This will use your claw weapons as finishing move. The damage is good and costs very little mana.
  • Cobra Strike (3 skill points minimum): The skill that makes this build function like a vampire. It leaches the target's life and mana. This makes your character highly sustainable.
  • Shadow Master (Max): This can distract some enemies and deal elemental damage so that you can handle physical immune enemies.
  • Burst of Speed (Remaining skill points): This buff increases your attack speed for better damage per second. It also helps you travel fast.
  • Dragon Flight (1 point): For closing the gap between you and your target.

Skills

  • Blade Fury (Max): The main damage dealer. This is a ranged attack, and its damage is affected by your equipped weapon.
  • Death Sentry (Max): This unleashes lightning damage, which lets you deal with physical immune monsters. More importantly, it can finish off mobs quickly with its corpse explosion effect.
