I've been playing video games since the tender age of four. As a result, most of my articles are related to video games.
This article is going to talk about Kjelle, Sully's daughter and the second generation Knight of Fire Emblem Awakening. If you're doing the Paralogue chapters in order, then Kjelle will be the fourth child unit you can recruit after Lucina.
In this article, I will give my thoughts on details such as the best father for Kjelle and what skills Kjelle would most benefit from.
"Have you made your peace?"
— Kjelle, on a critical hit/skill activation
So, who is Kjelle?
Kjelle is a fierce woman who dislikes people weaker than herself, loves to test her might against those with ability, and an incorrigible tomboy. Basically, she's Sully. Which, considering that she's her daughter, sounds just about right.
Where can I get Kjelle?
Kjelle is "dueling" a nefarious man inside of a castle during Paralogue 8. I wrote dueling in quotes because said man proceeds to call in reinforcements to tip the odds in his favor. The whole situation could hardly be called an honorable duel. Given what I have just said and the fact that she is behind a door (and she starts as an allied unit, to add insult to injury), you'll have to either rush the entire enemy force to get that door open or use a Rescue Staff. I shouldn't have to tell you that the latter option is better.
Why should I use Kjelle?
As I see it, Kjelle has pretty good growths. She has over 85% HP growth with basically every possible male parent and has one of the best Defense growths out of any child unit as well. In addition, her Speed growth is right around 50% in spite of her base class of Knight. Basically, even if you don't like Knights, you could always class change Kjelle into a class you'd prefer to use.
Who's the best father for Kjelle?
Well, Kjelle has splendid class options and growths with just about any male parent (I seem to recall reading somewhere that Sully has the most class options of any female parent, besides female My Unit, of course). However, Sully does not have Pegasus Knight and cannot pass down Galeforce. So, if you're trying to optimize Kjelle to have Galeforce, then there's only three options. Let's look at each of the options.
- Donnel - Can pass down Aptitude (bonus growths are always useful) or Counter (male-only skill) to Kjelle. Donnel can pass down the Pegasus Knight to Kjelle, allowing her to take Dark Flier at some point and get Galeforce.
- Gaius - Can pass down Counter or Locktouch to Kjelle. As you may expect, can pass down Pegasus Knight to Kjelle.
- Male My Unit - Can pass down Ignis to Kjelle, as well as any classes she may be missing (mostly the Magic-using classes). However, Kjelle has four class options between her own Knight and Sully's three classes, so having a male MU marry Sully isn't the best idea, in terms of maximizing classes between your child units.
Final verdict: I'd have Donnel marry Sully. Male My Unit would be my second pick, and Gaius would be bottom pick (mostly because I'd pair up Gaius with Tharja since Noire is one of the weaker child units, in my opinion).

The information in the above table plays into the following formula to determine Kjelle's true base stats for a specific given playthrough:
[(Mother's current stats - Mother's class base stats) + (Father's current stats - Father's class base stats) + Child's absolute base stats] / 3 + Child's class base stats

Note: Keep in mind that a child unit's base stats are generated when the Paralogue chapter is started. So, you'll want to train Sully and her husband up (and place appropriate skills to pass on to Kjelle in the last active slot of each parent as well) before you enter Kjelle's chapter.
Thanks to PirateYoga for pointing out that I had listed incorrect names in the paragraph above!
Should I use a Second Seal on Kjelle?
You'll want Kjelle to go Dark Flier at some point for Galeforce, but what happens afterwards depends on what you want her to do. Her high Defense growths allow her to be your resident point choker, a role that is probably largely absent from your army if you have followed my Kellam advice in the relevant article. Thus, if you want to have Kjelle in that role, you should leave her as a Knight and promote her to General (and have Sully pass down Aegis from Paladin as well, for the extra protection). However, if you want someone who is meant to deal a lot of punishment in the front lines, you might consider making Kjelle a Mercenary or Myrmidon instead.
Note: Despite what Sully's support conversations with Kjelle would have you believe, Kjelle has no problem becoming a Cavalier like her mother. This is a case of gameplay versus plot segregation.
Any other possible fathers to consider?
- Chrom - Gives Kjelle Aether, but locks her out of Galeforce. Not optimal, but one of the best non-Pegasus Knight granting pairings.
- Libra - Passes down the magic based classes and could easily pass down Renewal as well. Good for fleshing out Kjelle's class options.
Most other choices would be better off pairing up with other female units, but your mileage may vary as this is just a general guideline anyway. (If you're not going to optimize your army for Galeforce, most everything is suddenly fair play in terms of pairings).
What skills should I have on Kjelle?
Well, here are some thoughts on good skills for Kjelle. Mix and match to your own desires:
- You'll definitely want Galeforce from Dark Flier, if the pairing permits access to Pegasus Knight for Kjelle.
- Aegis or Luna passed down from Sully (depending on what you promoted Sully to during your playthrough).
- Wrath or Counter from the male parent (since they're gender-specific). Otherwise, you can have a parent pass down an offensive skill like Vengeance or Astra.
- You could pass down Aether or Ignis if Kjelle has an applicable parent.
- You could also consider getting Kjelle Pavise from General. Combined with Aegis from Paladin, it will make her a defensive powerhouse.
Kjelle's Possible Supports
|Possible Husbands/Companions||Other Possible Supports|
My Unit [Male], Owain, Inigo, Brady, Gerome, Morgan [Male], Yarne, Laurent
Sully, [Male Parent], My Unit [Female], Lucina, Severa
Looking for Some General Information Related to the Child Units?
In conclusion, Kjelle is the second generation Knight in Fire Emblem Awakening and Sully's daughter. She can serve your army well as a General to block key areas, or you can use a Second Seal to change her into a more offensive class. In either case, Kjelle's growths make her one of the better child units (better than Owain and Inigo at least, by my personal reckoning).
Feel free to talk about Kjelle and things related to her in the comments section. Also, don't hesitate to ask questions if something in this article is unclear!
Until the next time, take care and have fun!

I maried Sully so my unit is the father. any way to still make her a good unit?

For someone like Kjelle, (in my opinion of course) i REALLY need galeforce on her. Donnel didn't say ANYTHING right before I marry Sully off to Frederick... Grave mistake, i know...

Well, for Kjelle at least, I paired Sully with Stahl. Stahl is a pretty good parent for Kjelle, as Kellam can also be as well, given their shared base class of Knight.
As for which child unit I would not give Galeforce to in the case of a female MU, I usually choose Noire. I find her somewhat unimpressive. But that's just my opinion. :)

I have a slight note here--I'd really like it if, for the three conditional-galeforce girls, you actually did a brief rundown on some of the non-galeforce fathers? My MU is female, you see, so I've only 2 fathers to pass down peg knight with, and three children who can't get it without.

@no account: He's pretty good. I did Stahl x Sully in my main playthrough. Not optimal for Galeforce, obviously. But, he's pretty good. :)

Ultimate combo: Kjelle with Sol from Gaius/Donnel, Aegis from Sully, Luna from Great Knight, Pavise from General, and Glaeforce. You Basically have Dragonskin and Aether, plus galeforce.
Lemurian on June 24, 2013:
Why are you so against Gregor as a parent for all the children? He's a god-tier parent for most child units. Passes down good stats and the almighty Armsthrift
Erias on June 12, 2013:
Indeed, I paired Kellam with Sully. The defense growth makes her a freaking BEAST!
A person with no hub account on May 18, 2013:
Hmm, how about Kellam? Not the best for optimization of course, but it gives Kjelle great HP, Strength, and Defense growths in her base class, as well has having decent Skill, Speed, and Luck, as Speed and Luck are hovering at 50% growth while Skill is at 55%. Kellam also gives Kjelle War Cleric, giving her access to Renewal, as well as Trickster for Acrobat, allowing her to have great movement if she reclasses to something like Great Knight. The only real problem with Kellam!Kjelle would be her Resistance, which would have a low 28% growth (although that could be countered a bit if she converts to General).

Hey winterfate, under the "Kjelle's Initial Base Stats" table, I think you've made a small mistake with the names. You used Nah and Nowi for the italicized info below the table, just a minor problem :)
Otherwise, thanks for the child unit info!
