"Grand Theft Auto Online": Solo Missions F–M

"GTA Online" helped get me through a hard part of my life. When you spend THAT much time with a game, you can't help but write about it.

This guide includes "GTA Online" solo missions F–M.

This guide includes "GTA Online" solo missions F–M.

Sometimes, it's hard to find a friend, and sometimes, it's hard to wait for one. That's why I've created this guide to help you complete the missions from GTA Online, solo-style (though sometimes it's necessary to have a partner). Some missions will get removed or added back from update to update.

Quick Reference Guide

Some of these missions, mainly the low-level ones, can be played at any Rank, but all missions open up at a particular Rank. This guide was written using a Rank 185+ character, but I mention at the end of each mission recommended Ranks on a case-by-case basis and why they are recommended. In this guide, I will also list the following at the beginning of each mission:

  • Given By: The character in the game that gives you the mission. Lamar, Simeon, and Gerald give you lower level missions, while Ron, Lester, and Martin give you tougher missions, but with better pay.
  • Rank Unlocked: You cannot get this mission until you have achieved this Rank. You can be invited to any Mission regardless of your level, but you should not bite off more than you can chew.
  • Possible Pay (after patch 1.16): I started writing this guide before Patch 1.16, but the mission payouts get adjusted, from update to update. I will post here what I got for the strategy you will read. Just keep in mind that the pay is time-based, so the keyword here is “possible." Results may vary.
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Once again, if you are a particular Rank, then you probably won’t have the weapon(s) I recommend. You should be at least Rank 60 so that you have a Grenade Launcher. 120 would be even better so that you have everything, but unlike Solo Survival, I have to judge each mission as it comes. I'm going to be vague with the weapon selection unless the mission is best played with certain ones. New updates come out with new weapons and everyone has a different preference, so this will be mainly open to those options.
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: In GTA Online, you can buy and store up to 20 vehicles (as of September 16th, 2014). You should have at least one of each vehicle type in your garage (for Races), in addition to whatever you fancy. Here is where I will point out the best Vehicle for a particular mission. Most missions will require speed but some will require a strong battering ram approach.
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Sometimes, you get invited to a mission and it starts halfway across the map in somebody’s garage. That’s not kosher . . . There was a time when Rockstar had us start at the mission’s most important point, and that is the case with some or when Replaying it from the voting screen, but when you’re playing a Solo Mission, this spot is where you want to be when you launch it.
  • Rank Recommended: What Rank should you tackle this with? Would bringing another player along be a good idea? What items are necessary or helpful? Does anything differ version to version?

Other Ways to Play Solo in "GTA Online"

Set your PV up like this, it will be your sniper position. You'll know where to park it when you see the broken highway girders.

Flood in the LS River

  • Given By: Gerald
  • Rank Unlocked: 6
  • Possible Pay: $9,180 (still the same after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Sniper Rifle, SMG
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: Something fast, depending on your strategy.
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Barber Shop on Davis/Carson Avenue (across the street from the subway stop)
  • Rank Recommended: At Rank 6, you don’t have much to work with. You could use the Marksman Rifle, but the range is not the same as the standard Sniper Rifle. You could change the strategy by just using one of the DLC assault rifles and take cover behind your PV from up close.

Steal the Coke

Drive toward the location but stop just before the LS River. Take cover, behind your Personal Vehicle, across the river from the drug deal. Equip a sniper rifle and attack every gang member you see from this position (see picture). Do not use explosives, or you risk destroying the coke! Once you cannot snipe any more gunmen, cross the river and finish off the rest with an SMG. Once everyone is dead, loot the bodies and take the coke.

Deliver the Coke to Gerald’s Apartment

Four SUVs worth of Vagos will come after you. Either fight them off or drive to Gerald’s. Make sure to use your PV as cover if you decide to hold your ground.

Four Trailers

  • Given By: Lester
  • Rank Unlocked: 45
  • Possible Pay: $18,630 (after patch 1.16) $16,560 (after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Sniper Rifle, Light Machine Gun, Grenades or Grenade Launcher
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: I don’t typically recommend Supers outside of races, but this mission requires some back and forth so . . .
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Please see first picture
  • Rank Recommended: At Rank 45, you won’t have a light machine gun (the MG) for another five Ranks. You don’t need a light machine gun to complete this mission, but the aptitude of raining lots of bullets before a reload is useful after the sniping (there isn’t much cover except for sustained fire). If you’re comfy with an assault rifle that’s up to you.

Steal a Trailer

Run up the alley behind the building that houses the 10-car garage on South Shambles Street. Climb up the yellow ladders to the very top (see second picture), then run across the top of the bridge that leads to the neighboring building (see third picture). Equip your sniper rifle and shoot any gunmen you can see from up here (see fourth picture). You can’t snipe all of them, but you can clear out a few. Do not use explosives or you will destroy the trailers. Once you can’t hit anymore, climb back down to ground level. Equip a light machine gun and take out the rest of the gunmen in the immediate area. Get in the Hunter (it’s the big square semi) and back into one of the trailers to connect it.

Deliver the Trailer to Lester’s Warehouse

Get out of the Hunter and take cover behind one of the nearby vehicles. Shoot the Grangers full of gunmen that appear. Shooting them with your LMG is one thing, but tossing Grenades at the little parking lot they will form is even better. Once they stop coming drive the trailer to Lester’s warehouse.

Steal a Trailer

Yep, you got one more to do since you’re playing this Solo. Request your Personal Vehicle and drive back to the yard with the other trailer. Get in the other Hunter, or the Phantom semi-truck, and hook up the other trailer by backing into it.

Deliver the Trailer to Lester’s Warehouse

Once again . . .

Fueling the Flames

  • Given By: Ron
  • Rank Unlocked: 20
  • Possible Pay: $11,520 (still the same after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Assault Rifle and (carefully) a Grenade
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: An SUV or pickup
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Convenience Store in Sandy Shores
  • Rank Recommended: Thanks to the DLC, at Rank 20, you have access to the Special Carbine and Bullpup Rifle. You could instead wait for five more Ranks to unlock the AK-47 instead.

Steal the Tanker

Drive up the road to the location of the tanker. Instead of sniping just park your Personal Vehicle across the road in the lot (see picture). Bringing a large PV provides more adequate cover. Shoot the Lost gang members with an assault rifle from here. You can also toss a Grenade on the Lost van to kill a few in the blast. It’s parked far enough away from the tanker and semi-truck to prevent damage to them, if you’re careful . . . A couple of Lost will be riding around on motorcycles. Once the area’s clear, cross the road. The reinforcements will sometimes show up before you even enter the Phantom semi-truck. Sometimes they show up while you are killing the first group of Lost. When they arrive continue to use your PV as cover. They approach from both directions on the road, so watch your corners. Once you have written the final exclamation mark for this shootout, get in the Phantom and then back into the tanker.

Deliver the Tanker to the Gas Station

All of the Lost are taken care of, or at least should be, by this point. Drive the tanker to the gas station to complete the mission.

Gassed Up

  • Given By: Gerald
  • Rank Unlocked: 12
  • Possible Pay: $11,230 (after patch 1.16) $9,360 (after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Marksman Rifle, Special Carbine or Bullpup Rifle, Proximity Mines or Sticky Bombs
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: One that provides good cover.
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: The Ammunation in Cypress Flats
  • Rank Recommended: You don’t have much to work with at Rank 12, but thanks to DLC weapons, you could accomplish this mission now. You don’t unlock Sticky Bombs until Rank 19. Proximity Mines are equally effective when enemy vehicles appear on screen, but more expensive and less controllable.

Steal the Coke

Drive to the deal going down, but as you drive down the road leading to its level stop here (see first picture). You have a tactical advantage over the gang members down below, but use explosives or you could destroy the coke. Instead, equip a Marksman Rifle and pick off as many of them as you can from here. Finish off the rest with an assault rifle from up here, or kill off the rest from down below. As you drive down the ramp to the deal area drop a couple of Proximity Mines or Sticky Bombs on both lanes of the road (see second picture). This will help later. Pick up the coke.

Deliver the Coke to Gerald’s Apartment

As you drive back up the ramp enemy vehicles will attack you. If you placed explosives on the road earlier it can help get rid of them. Take cover behind your PV to finish off the rest. Once they are dead drive to Gerald’s apartment to complete the mission.

Gentry Does It

  • Given By: Simeon
  • Rank Unlocked: 10
  • Possible Pay: $11,160 (still the same after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: None
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: Sports class, fast and smooth
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Movie Theater in Downtown Vinewood
  • Rank Recommended: At Rank 12, you have everything you need to complete this mission. No need for Lester this time if you park in the location I marked in the screenshot.

Steal the Cars

Drive to the hotel in Vinewood and into the parking garage. Some of the guests will become hostile (sometimes), but only briefly—none of them are armed, so there’s no need for weapons on this mission. Get in the Banshee, parked in the back.

Lose the Cops

This part of the city is full of alleyways (see both pictures). You only have a two-star Wanted Level. Park in one of Vinewood’s many alleys, and put on a Mask to remove one of the stars. If you are over Rank 21 you could call Lester, but considering the above, it’s a waste of $400.

Deliver the Car to the Dealership

Drive the Banshee to Simeon’s dealership and park it in the yellow marker. Don’t worry about vehicle damage.

Steal the Cars/Lose the Cops/Deliver the Car to the Dealership

You pretty much have to repeat everything I just said, but to keep it brief . . . Request your PV, steal the Felon GT, take off/put on Mask (whichever way you had it), hide in alley, drive to Simeon’s, and park in the yellow, sesame seed bun.

Note: Bringing a buddy along could make this mission go faster. It depends on your preference for pace.

Going Down the GOH

  • Given By: Lamar
  • Rank Unlocked: 20
  • Possible Pay: $11,520 (still the same after patch 1.30)
  • Weapon(s) Recommended: Micro SMG or AP Pistol, Assault Rifle
  • Personal Vehicle Recommended: Fast but sturdy, like a Coup class vehicle
  • Best Place to Launch Mission: Ammunation in Chumash (it will start you off near a gas station in Little Seoul so spawn point might not matter after patch 1.29)
  • Rank Recommended: At Rank 20 you have a Micro SMG with Extended Magazine. It’s good enough for this mission but sprays bullets pretty wide. The AP Pistol isn’t available for another 15 Ranks.

Steal the Tanker

If you took my advice and launched the mission near the Ammunation in Chumash, you will be right around the corner from the tanker. The tanker takes a long journey until it stops by a warehouse catty-corner to the LSC at the Airport. To help mix things up a bit (rather than do the usual take-cover-and-kill-the-guards approach), I suggest a chase. Get ahead of the tanker and spray the driver with bullets from your Micro SMG or AP Pistol. Hold in the right stick before shooting to get a better aim. You will essentially be shooting behind you. Watch the turns. Once the driver’s dead, get out and shoot the passenger. Then get in the truck cab.

Deliver the Tanker to the Depot

Get out of the truck and take cover (yeah, yeah I know what I said). Kill the suits that respond in Grangers. Once they are all dead get back in the truck cab and make the looong drive to the depot. Turn on Rebel Radio, maybe that song Convoy by C.W. McCall is playing. Just remember that it’s LEFT on the D-pad. Not RIGHT on the D-pad. It was an interesting way to remember when writing this walkthrough, but I don’t think you want to detach the tanker on an open highway at high speeds.

Note: Even with Patch 1.29's spawn point change you can still do the above walkthrough if you brought a fast car. By the time you get to the freeway, to intercept the truck, it will be just entering the Los Santos city limits.
