Inquisitor mastery requires specialization in dual pistol, elemental damages, support buffs, and setting traps in the form of Relics. If you are new to this form of mastery and looking for guidance then you are in the right place. This article will provide information on how to build your very first Inquisitor character.

Note: The recommended devotions are not in order. Meaning it is up to you to decide which constellation you should learn first. Just in case you don’t know, devotion points can also be re-assigned in order to meet certain requirements. When it comes to gear components, resistance to different damage types should be the priority for your character to survive on higher difficulty settings.

1. Dual Pistol Purifier (Inquisitor + Demolitionist)

The dual pistol purifier is the most basic of all the builds listed in this article. The build’s primary damage-dealer is its default weapon attack, Fire Striker. For this build, you are going to invest a majority of skill points into default weapon attacks and passive skills.

Attributes

  • Invest in cunning until you have enough to wear the best pistols in the game. Then you will need a minimum of 20 points in physique if you want to survive on higher difficulties.
  • Most of your attribute points should be invested in Spirit for dealing massive amounts of damage to your enemies.

Skills Inquisitor

  • Mastery Bar (40 points)
  • Ranged Expertise (10 points)
  • Bursting Rounds (10 points)
  • Chilling Rounds (10 points)
  • Storm Spread (10 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (10 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)

Skills Demolitionist

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Fire Strike (12 points) – Explosive Strike (12 points) – Static Strike (12 points) – Brimstone (12 points)
  • Flame Touched (12 points)
  • Blase Shield (12 points)
  • Flashbang (4 points) – Searing Light (4 points)

Devotion

  • Ghoul
  • Spider
  • Quill
  • Scholar’s Light
  • Owl
  • Harpy
  • Empty Throne
  • Hydra
  • Rhowan’s Crown
  • Blind Sage
  • Attak Seru, the Mirage

Equipment Priorities

  • The most important gear item in this build is the dual pistol. Obviously, it wouldn’t be called the "dual pistol purifier" if it didn’t include those.
  • Now for equipment stats, your main priorities are fire, lightning, cold, burn, electrocute, frost burn, and pierce damage.

How to play?

  1. Playing this build is a no-brainer. Just attack your enemies with your powerful default weapon attack, Fire Strike. This will also trigger your multiple passives every now and then.
  2. Always throw your Flashbang to hold off enemies. When you're low in health, use either a health potion or the Word of Renewal to restore your health.
  3. Finally, do not forget to always apply your buff to Word of Renewal and Flame Touched.

2. Fire Flash Purifier (Inquisitor + Demolitionist)

The fire flash purifier is one of my personal favorite builds in Inquisitor because of its amazing capability to speed run on levels.

This build can move and kill enemies quickly due to the following key skills:

  • Aura of Censure for finishing off trash mobs.
  • Flames of Ignaffar for dealing with tougher enemies.
  • It can run quickly, thanks to both Vindictive Flame and Word of Renewal.

You will also notice that this build has a lot of constellation skills, that is why I set aside 1 point in Fire Strike in order to meet the demand.

Attributes

  • Spirit is your primary attribute since you mainly deal fire damage. For this build, the recommended minimum Physique to survive on higher difficulty is 40.
  • Cunning is optional for this build. Put points here if you need more offensive ability.

Skills Inquisitor

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Flames of Ignaffar (16 points) – Intensify (12 points) – Infernal Purge (12 points) – Endless Flame (12 points)
  • Aura of Censure (12 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (10 points)
  • Inquisitor Seal (12 points) – Arcane Empowerment (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)
  • Rune of Kalastor (12 points) – Ignition (10 points)

Skills Demolitionist

  • Mastery Bar (10 points)
  • Flame Touched (12 points)
  • Vindictive Flame (16 points)
  • Fire Strike (1 point)
  • Flashbang (6 points) – Searing Light (5 points)

Devotion

  • Imp
  • Fiend
  • Jackal
  • Tortoise
  • Empty Throne
  • Magi
  • Alladrah’s Phoenix
  • Oklaine’s Lantern
  • Behemoth
  • Ulzuin’s Torch

Equipment Priorities

Your main priority here is equipment that boosts your fire damage. Don’t forget that you should either equip a scepter, dagger, or caster’s off-hand since we choose Oklaine’s Lantern in one of the constellations.

How to play?

  1. As I previously mentioned, just pass through the trash mobs and kill the tougher ones with Flames of Ignaffar.

3. Trapper Gunner Mage Hunter (Inquisitor + Arcanist)

This build focuses on laying artifacts on the ground to deal massive damage while wielding range weapons.

Attributes

  • This build has the same attributes as Dual Pistol Purifier build.

Inquisitor Skills

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Rune of Hagarrad (16 points) – Biting Cold (12 points) – Chillsurge (12 points)
  • Rune of Kalastor (12 points) – Ignition (10 points)
  • Artifact Handling (10 points)
  • Inquisitor Seal (12 points) – Arcane Empowerment (12 points)
  • Aura of Conviction (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)
  • Ranged Expertise (6 points)
  • Bursting Round (7 points)
  • Chilling Rounds (7 points)
  • Storm Spread (7 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (10 points)

Arcanist Skills

  • Mastery Bar (1 point)
  • Iskandra’s Elemental Exchange (12 points)
  • Inner Focus (12 points)

Devotion

Will be the same as with the Dual Pistol Purifier build.

Equipment Priorities

It doesn’t matter what kind of range weapon you use for this build as long as it provides damage bonus to either fire, cold, elemental, or pierce damage.

How to play?

  1. Use your range weapon attack to continuously deal damage, while your artifacts are taking time to get armed. Artifacts deal massive amounts of damage, but require some timing and positioning, so familiarize yourself with how to do it.

4. Support Tactician (Inquisitor + Soldier)

The support tactician is a good choice for multiplayer gameplay. This build’s primary role is to both buff and heal your companions. Although it's a support role, this build can still deal good amount of damage in case it's used on single player mode.

Attributes

  • Physique is the main attribute of this build since support should have a high rate of survival.
  • Don’t miss out on assigning enough spirit to be able to wear the best enchanted items.
  • I don’t recommend putting cunning in this build.

Inquisitor Skills

  • Mastery Bar (12 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Word of Arms (1 point) – Vigor (10 points) – Steel Resolve (10 points)
  • Aura of Conviction (12 points)
  • Rune of Hagarrad (16 points) – Biting Cold (12 points) – Chillsurge (12 points)
  • Inquisitor Seal (12 points) – Null Field (1 point) – Arcane Empowerment (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)
  • Artifact Handling (10 points)

Soldier Skills

  • Mastery Bar (32 points)
  • Field Command (12 points) – Squad Tactics (12 points)
  • Cadence (1 point)
  • Blitz (1 point)
  • Menhir’s Will (4 points)

Devotion

  • Tortoise
  • Spider
  • Quill
  • Scholar’s Light
  • Owl
  • Harpy
  • Amatok the Spirit of Winter
  • Ulo the Keeper of the Waters
  • Bard’s Harp
  • Rhowan’s Crown
  • Leviathan

Equipment Priorities

When it comes to damage bonuses on equipment, your main priority here will be the gears that boost cold and frostburn damage. And since you have Word of Arms skill in this build, it is mandatory to equip two-handed weapons or the modifier won’t work.

How to play?

  1. Do not forget to activate the following buffs: Aura Conviction, Field Command, Word of Renewal
  2. For players who are in danger, you can protect them using Inquisitor Seal or you can heal them with Word of Renewal.

5. Dual Pistol Tactician (Inquisitor + Soldier)

This build is a variant of the dual pistol build with pierce as its primary damage type instead of different elements.

Attributes

  • Cunning is your main attribute here. Place a minimum of 20 physique to ensure survival on higher difficulty.
  • For spirit, put points until you are capable of equipping the best enchanted items.

Inquisitor Skills

  • Mastery Bar (40 points)
  • Ranged Expertise (12 points)
  • Bursting Round (1 point)
  • Chilling Rounds (9 points)
  • Storm Spread (9 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (10 points)
  • Horn of Gandarr (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)

Soldier Skills

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Cadence (16 points) – Fighting Form (12 points) – Deadly Momentum (12 points)
  • Oleron’s Rage (12 points)
  • Field Command (1 point) – Squad Tactics (12 points)
  • Markovian’s Advantage (12 points)
  • Zolhan’s Technique (1 point)
  • Decorated Soldier (1 point)

Devotion

  • Lion
  • Assassin’s Blade
  • Falcon
  • Empty Throne
  • Harpy
  • Assassin
  • Hydra
  • Unknown Soldier
  • Oleron

Equipment Priorities

  • As the build name implies, equipping dual pistol is a must.
  • For damage type on items, go with pierce first, then physical and internal trauma.

How to play?

  1. Just like the dual pistol purifier in this article, keep attacking with your default weapon attack, but this time, do so while using Cadence.
  2. Then use Horn of Gandarr whenever available to deal area of effect damage and confuse.

6. Aura Infiltrator (Inquisitor + Nightblade)

The Aura Infiltrator is similar to the Fire Flash Purifier build, but this one has three auras in its arsenal and they are the Aura of Censure, Night’s Chill, and the Chilling Presence. This build is also good for speed run due to its mobility from Pneumatic Burst and Word of Renewal. And yes, both aforementioned skills can also heal your wounds. How cool is that?

Attributes

  • This is a midrange build which means you will be needing a lot of physique in order to survive on higher difficulty levels.
  • If you are going to assign points on cunning, just assign a minimal amount. The main reason for doing so is that you will get a lot of cunning from both the inquisitor and the nightblade mastery bar.

Inquisitor Skills

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Aura Censure (12 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (12 points)
  • Word of Pain (16 points) – Word of Agony (12 points) – Death Sentence (12 points)
  • Storm Box of Elgoloth (16 points) – Lightning Tether (12 points)
  • Inquisitor Seal (12 points) – Arcane Empowerment (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)

Nightblade Skills

  • Mastery Bar (20 points)
  • Veil of Shadow (10 points) – Night Chill (10 points)
  • Shadow Strike (1 point)
  • Pneumatic Burst (12 points)
  • Blade Barrier (3 point)

Devotion

  • Spider
  • Quill
  • Scholar’s Light
  • Empty Throne
  • Owl
  • Harpy
  • Oklaine’s Lantern
  • Rhowan’s Crown
  • Blind Sage
  • Attak Seru, the Mirage
  • Leviathan

Equipment Priorities

  • Your third source of aura here is from the legendary dagger Shard of Asterkarn. This item will grant you a toggled skill called Chilling Presence that works like Night’s Chill.
  • Damage type priorities on equipment should be cold, then fire, lightning, or elemental.

How to play?

  1. The combined power of your three Auras here can quickly take down trash mobs, even on higher difficulties.
  2. It doesn’t stop there. For tougher enemies or bosses, this build can spam Word of Pain, Storm Box of Elgoloth, plus three Tier 3 constellation skills: Elemental Seeker, Arcane Currents, and Whirlpool.
  3. By the way, I put level 1 Shadow Strike on this build so that you can dash on enemies.

7. Storm Vindicator (Inquisitor + Shaman)

The Storm Vindicator is a lightning and cold caster type build that is effective for kiting play style.

Attributes

  • Since this build casts lightning and cold, the main attribute should be spirit.
  • If you believe that your kiting capability is effective, then you won’t be needing to put points on physique, but to be safe, a minimum of 20 should be enough.
  • Invest on cunning if you prefer to deal more critical damage.

Inquisitor Skills

  • Mastery Bar (40 points)
  • Word of Renewal (12 points) – Steel Resolve (12 points)
  • Storm Box of Elgoloth (16 points) – Lightning Tether (12 points)
  • Inquisitor Seal (12 points) – Arcane Empowerment (12 points)
  • Deadly Aim (12 points)

Shaman Skills

  • Mastery Bar (50 points)
  • Wind Devil (16 points) – Raging Tempest (12 points) – Maelstorm (12 points)
  • Storm Totem (16 points)
  • Stormcaller’s Pact (12 points)

Devotion

  • Tsunami
  • Jackal
  • Tortoise
  • Raven
  • Empty Throne
  • Tempest
  • Amatok the Spirit of Winter
  • Chariot of the Dead
  • Behemoth
  • Ultos, Shepherd of Storms

Equipment Priorities

  • Stack equipment with bonus damage to lightning, then electrocute, frostburn, and cold.

How to play?

  1. Spam as many Wind Devils as you can while placing your Storm Totem within your enemy's reach. One good thing about both mentioned skills, is that they are effective on hit and run tactics. Just cast them and they will automatically take care of targeting enemies.
  2. For targeting specific enemies, Storm Box of Elgoloth is available.

Regarding the Storm Vindicator: this build is devastating when relying on Crits through Cunning. I recommend a stat allocation of 1:1:0 (Phy:Cun:Spi) because with a proper Offensive Ability value and maxed "Deadly Aim", the Vindicator becomes a crit-machine with Deadly Aim perma up.
