Guide to Braille Divine Tomes in "Dark Souls III"

Matt Bird writes all sorts of nonsense, but he dedicates a large chunk of his time to writing game walkthroughs.

Miracles are a staple of the Souls series, and Dark Souls III is no exception. Plenty of builds use Miracles as either a central component or a backup option of their strategy, both in and out of combat, and amassing a large number of Miracles will greatly increase your magical capabilities. Many Miracles are locked into Braille Divine Tomes, however, and you'll need to find all of the Tomes to learn every Miracle in the game.

This guide will show you the path to each of the Braille Divine Tomes in Dark Souls III. But you need someone to interpret them for you, and there are two NPCs who can sell the resulting Miracles to you.

Irina of Carim and Karla

The two NPCs who can accept the Braille Divine Tomes are hidden away from Dark Souls III's beaten path, and they will take some searching to recruit. Depending on how you wish to interact with these NPCs, you may want to find both of them.

Irina of Carim

The earlier NPC you can find is Irina. She's locked in a cell in the Undead Settlement. First, check the graveyard just past the Dilapidated Bridge bonfire to find the Mortician's Ashes. Give the Ashes to the Shrine Handmaid and she'll have the Grave Key available in her store for 1,500 Souls. Buy the Key, then make your way into the sewer opposite the Dilapidated Bridge bonfire. There's a door down here that leads through Skeleton-infected chambers, back outside, and then into a room filled with rats. Irina is at the top of the ladder from the rat room. Speak to her and accept her service to send her to Firelink Shrine, down a long passage to the right of Blacksmith Andre.

You can give Irina all four Tomes in Dark Souls III, though she is reluctant to handle either the Deep Braille Divine Tome or the Londor Braille Divine Tome. Giving her these and purchasing the Dark Miracles inside will drive her protector, Eygon, to take her from Firelink Shrine. You'll find them just outside the shrine, by the door leading back to Iudex Gundyr's bonfire. Kill Eygon and you can reclaim Irina, though her ending from here is... sad.

If you'd rather get your Dark Miracles without irreparably damaging two NPCs, you'll want Karla.

This all-purpose witch is found in Irithyll Dungeon, locked in a cell on the lowest level of the dungeon and watched over by a parade of Jailers. To unlock the cell you'll need a key. Head to the Profaned Capital bonfire and climb down into the swamp at this tower's base. There's a ladder across the swamp, lit by a torch, that you can use to climb onto an adjacent building. Skirt around the edge of the building's rooftop, then go up the first set of stairs you find and keep climbing subsequent sets of stairs. Eventually you'll return to the Irithyll Dungeon area, and at the end of a curving hallway you'll find the Jailer's Key Ring. Use this to free Karla.

Karla appears in Firelink Shrine in a small alcove under the stairs leading up to Blacksmith Andre. Once there Karla will (reluctantly, though without problem) accept the Deep and Londor Divine Braille Tomes.

Braille Divine Tome of Carim

The first Divine Tome you'll find is near the halfway point of the Road of Sacrifices. Proceed through the valley full of Corvians until you come to a bridge that leads to the Halfway Fortress bonfire. The bridge is guarded by several Corvians. Rather than cross, check the side of the bridge for a thin landing that you can jump down to. This leads to a cave with a pair of Festering Starved Hounds. The Tome is in their cave.

The Braille Divine Tome of Carim teaches the following Miracles:

  • Med Heal
  • Tears of Denial
  • Force

Deep Braille Divine Tome

The second Divine Tome is in the Cathedral of the Deep. Partway through the Cathedral you'll need to run along a wide ledge as a giant tries to flatten you with its hands. Escape to the passage on the other side of this path and you'll find a long set of stairs leading down. Go to the bottom to find a small prayer room with a treasure chest. This chest is a Mimic. Smack it to bring the Mimic to life, then kill it. The Mimic will drop the Deep Braille Divine Tome.

The Deep Braille Divine Tome teaches the following Dark Miracles:

  • Gnaw
  • Deep Protection

Londor Braille Divine Tome

The third Divine Tome is on the person of an NPC, and you'll need to do some legwork to make her appear. Head to the Foot of the High Wall bonfire, go down the wall, and take a left, away from the Festering Starved Dog/Hollow battle. Through a gate you'll find a large group of stone-backed pilgrims, almost all of whom are dead. The one exception is on your right: Yoel of Londor. Speak to him and accept his service to send him to Firelink Shrine. He's located down a long passage to the left of Blacksmith Andre.

Yoel will offer to "Draw Out True Strength" when spoken to. This will effectively grant your character a free level, though you need to die each time you want this service. Do this five times to 'max out' your potential. After this Yoel's dialogue will change and become a little more sinister. Continue through the game until you reach the Catacombs of Carthus, then head back to Yoel. He'll now be dead, and a new NPC, Yuria of Londor, will be standing nearby. Speak to her and you can buy the Londor Braille Divine Tome for a mere 50 Souls.

The Londor Braille Divine Tome teaches the following Dark Miracles:

  • Dark Blade
  • Vow of Silence
  • Dead Again

Braille Divine Tome of Lothric

The final Braille Divine Tome is located in Lothric Castle. Proceed through the area until you reach the boss fog for the Dragonslayer Armor fight. To the left of the fog is a stretch of railing, part of which is broken. Beyond is a significant drop down to a lower level of Lothric Castle. You'll fall down in front of a small room containing a Mimic, and, up a small set of stairs, the Braille Divine Tome of Lothric. The drop down here is pretty painful, so you'll either want a spell or accessory to deaden your fall... or a lot of health.

The Braille Divine Tome of Lothric teaches the following Miracles:

  • Bountiful Light
  • Blessed Weapon
  • Magic Barrier
