Guide to Sorcery Scrolls in "Dark Souls III"

Sorcery is one of the best ranged combat options in Dark Souls III, and sorcerers and melee warriors alike can benefit from buying and using the many Sorceries in the game. A lot of Sorceries are locked behind Sorcery Scrolls, however, and you'll need to hunt around the game to find these papery bits of wisdom.

This guide will lead you to all four Sorcery Scrolls in Dark Souls III. Before you can use them, however, you'll need a teacher - and finding him requires a bit of explanation on its own.

Orbeck of Vinheim

The Sorcery Scrolls need to go to an NPC named Orbeck of Vinheim. A little haughty and quite the loner, Orbeck is hiding out on the Road of Sacrifices. Proceed through the area until you reach the Crucifixion Woods bonfire. Nearby are ruins that will, one way or another, lead you to the Crystal Sage boss fight.

Just before the Crystal Sage boss is a long, ruined hallway guarded by several Hollows, including two mages. Rather than going down it, take a left just before you enter. (The doorway you want is in the picture above.) You'll walk down onto some rocks and see a campfire on your left. Go right and up the stairs to find the upper half of the hallway you skipped. Orbeck is up here, studying at his desk. Speak to him to recruit his services in Firelink Shrine. He will accept any Sorcery Scrolls you find and put new Sorceries up for sale.

Orbeck will only join your menagerie at Firelink if your character has a minimum of ten Intelligence. Level up a bit if you don't meet this requirement. (Though if you're hunting for Sorceries the chances that you have more than ten Intelligence are pretty high.)

Sage's Scroll

The first Sorcery Scroll you're likely to find is in Farron Keep's massive poison swamp. Proceed through the area until you come to the Keep Ruins bonfire, located near the huge double doors that lead to the second area of Farron Keep. If you exit from the bonfire towards the doors and look on your left you'll see a small stretch of land up against the wall of the keep. Behind a tree on this land you'll find a few hostile Ghru, several dead Mushroom People from the original Dark Souls, and the Sage's Scroll.

The Sage's Scroll teaches the following Sorceries when given to Orbeck:

  • Great Farron Dart
  • Farron Hail
  • Pestilent Mist (always learned from the first Scroll you give Orbeck)

Golden Scroll

The second Sorcery Scroll is also found in Farron Keep, under the watch of Basilisks. There are a number of ways to get here through the swamp, though the swiftest is to follow the edge of the swamp right from the Farron Keep bonfire. Trudge through the sludge until you see tall trees patrolled by leaping Basilisks. After a bit of fighting you'll come to a shallow swampy area where you can move normally. On your right, down a short passage and inside a cave, is the Golden Scroll.

The Golden Scroll teaches the following Sorceries when given to Orbeck:

  • Twisted Wall of Light
  • Cast Light
  • Repair
  • Hidden Body
  • Hidden Weapon
  • Pestilent Mist (always learned from the first Scroll you give Orbeck)

Logan's Scroll

You won't get your third Sorcery Scroll until much later in the game. Once you reach the Profaned Capital area you'll find a bonfire with the same name, inside a tower. Check the lower level of this tower for a path down to ground level. From here you'll see a swamp, guarded by Swamp Centipedes, that can inflict toxic if you linger too long.

A building across the swamp has a ladder at its base, so run across the swamp as quick as you can and climb the ladder. It leads onto rooftops where you'll find the Court Sorcerer NPC. Kill him for Logan's Scroll. The Sorcerer is not an easy win, so either try to get up close and knock him around before he can cast spells or find a way to lure him into the swamp.

Logan's Scroll teaches the following Sorceries when given to Orbeck:

  • Homing Soulmass
  • Soul Spear
  • Pestilent Mist (always learned from the first Scroll you give Orbeck)

Crystal Scroll

The last of the Sorcery Scrolls is, fittingly, found in the Grand Archives. It's held by the Crystal Sage that haunts you throughout the first half of this area, and killing the fiend will earn you the Crystal Scroll. You can inflict plenty of damage on him just before he teleports to a new perch, though it's not likely that you'll get the kill until he stops on a bridge near the top of your ascent. Drop down onto the bridge and rush the Crystal Sage for an easy coup de grace.

The Crystal Scroll teaches the following Sorceries when given to Orbeck:

  • Homing Crystal Soulmass
  • Crystal Soul Spear
  • Pestilent Mist (always learned from the first Scroll you give Orbeck)
