Final Fantasy X-2, the sequel to Final Fantasy X, was originally released on PlayStation 2 in 2001. Due to the two games' popularity, the titles were remastered and sold as one game on both the PlayStation 3 and then later on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

This fun game is full of sidequests, hidden items, and story secrets that grant it significant replayability. Its charming story and quirky characters made it one of the childhood favourite games of many, and the re-releases allowed us to enjoy some nostalgia, as well as new challenges the newer versions offered.

The currency of this game, like its predecessor, is gil. This article will explain how to get unlimited gil for your game slot without cheats or codes, and the steps leading up to this.

Step One: Find O'aka

If you played Final Fantasy X, you may remember O'aka XXIII as the backpack carrying, eccentric merchant with whom you can trade and buy items. He can be easily missed in X-2, however. To be on your way to getting unlimited gil, you first need to get O'aka on your airship.

In Chapter One of the game, head to Macalania Woods. Take the shimmering path until you reach the intersection. Take the northwesternmost path and you'll end up at the Travel Agency.

You will see that O'aka is hiding from some Al Bhed! He will ask you to pretend you never saw him and then run away. To find him:

  • Go back to the intersection and take the south-west path.
  • Follow the path until you reach a large tree. Press X near it and O'aka will appear before running away again.
  • Go back to the area with the save sphere and head east, following O'aka again.
  • Ignore the guards (that road leads to Bevelle) and head east again. You will reach another intersection.
  • Take the north path. Inside you'll see Rikku and Paine. Talk to them both.
  • Head to the north-west part of the screen to find him.
  • Select "Let's hide him on the airship!"

Completing this quest also gets you the Ice Queen Garment Grid.

O'aka will now be on your airship and available for trade. He has a debt of 100,000 gil that you must pay off before the end of Chapter 2. Pay off what you can now, but don't worry about it too much yet.

Step Two: Complete "YRP, The Scalpers Three!"

You will have to wait until Chapter Two to continue on your way to getting unlimited gil. When you have completed Chapter One, head to the Moonflow and talk to Tobli (the little guy in red running around near some Hypello).

He will ask you to sell tickets for his upcoming show. However, not all customers will agree on the same price, and you only have one chance per ticket. It is possible to make more than 11,500 gil this way, which is a vital step to getting unlimited gil. Watch the video below on how to sell all ten tickets and make maximum profit.

Step Three: Sell Data in Guadosalam

After you have finished selling tickets for Tobli, head for Guadosalam, either by walking or by airship.

Before you do anything, save your game. There is an inn east of the Save Sphere; enter it and ask "Got any data?"

The reason you have to save your game first is that the clue he gives to you is random. It may take a few tries, but keep loading your save file and coming back to the innkeeper until he asks "It's the last person you'd expect, no question." After the conversation ends, press the square button to talk to him again and sell him back the data for 100,000 gil.

Other options can make you a profit, but this is the largest one.

Step Four: Pay Off O'aka's Debt

You now have more than enough gil to pay off all of O'aka's debt! Head back to your airship and buy his items until he gleefully says "Now I can finally go back to my shop!" and his owed amount is 0. Be sure to do this before the end of Chapter Two.

Step Five: Farm

Now that O'aka has no more debt, his prices have gone way down. They are now even lower than Barkeep's. To get your unlimited gil, all you have to do is farm. You can do this by doing the following:

  • Buy 99 of each item from O'aka.
  • Sell all of these items to Barkeep.
  • Repeat until you have as much gil as you want.

You will not be able to do this after the end of Chapter Two, so be sure to farm as much as you want/need before you head to Guadosalam with the three outfits you steal from Leblanc's goons.

Having a high amount of gil is useful because there are rare items for sale all over Spira. It also allows you to be able to buy the Besaid Key on Besaid Island early. With this simple guide, you'll be rolling in riches in no time.
