Habbo Hotel is one of the longest-standing online virtual reality games on the internet. Since it was released by Finnish company Sulake in 2000, it has gained players from over 150 countries worldwide and is still enjoyed by thousands of people today. Being able to change your avatar's appearance, explore rooms, buy and sell furniture (nicknamed "furni,") and chat with other players makes it a very fun and addictive internet experience that people still love to play even nearly two decades after its release.

With the constantly developing furniture and abilities, new games crop up all the time. One very fun game is Telephrase, a relatively new game compared to others such as Falling Furni or Costume Change. This article explains how to play Telephrase and the steps you need to take to host your own game in your room.

The Rules

The rules of Telephrase are fairly simple. Here is how to play.

  • The host (the owner of the room) says a theme.
  • The players have to guess the word that the host is thinking of. For example, if the theme is "colours," the players can guess red, yellow, purple, etc.
  • When the player says the correct word, they are automatically teleported to a chair.
  • The last person to guess the correct word is out.

So how does the host set up the room so that your Habbo is teleported to the chair? How do you avoid "flooding" (automatically being silenced for saying too many things in a row)? Read on to find out.

What You'll Need

Hosting a game of Telephrase doesn't take up too much time, but you have to make sure that you are all set before you start inviting people to your room. You will need:

  • A basic game room: a gaming space separate from the entrance, a space for the host, and a small area (three squares will do) for the winning round chair and the furniture or gate blocking it off.
  • A WIRED Trigger: User Says Keyword (from the furniture shop catalogue)
  • A WIRED Effect: Teleport to Furni (also from the catalogue)
  • Enough chairs on which participating players can sit
  • The "winning chair" to which Habbos who pass the round are teleported

This is a simple Telephrase room. There is the small area (with the plants and throne) where the host sits, chairs for the guests, and the pink chair where Habbos who passed the round will be teleported.

Setting Up The Room

Firstly, set up your room so that you can trade.

  • Click on "Rooms" (bottom left)
  • Find the room you want to edit and click on the blue icon with the white "i"
  • Click on "Room Settings"
  • Under "Trade Settings," click "Everyone can trade"

This will ensure players know there is a prize for the game. You can give furniture or coins as prizes.

Next, make sure that flooding is allowed. This will ensure that players can guess many times without the risk of being silenced for flooding the room.

  • Go to "Room Settings"
  • Click the "VIP/Chat" tab
  • Change the bottom drop-down box to "Minimal anti-flood protection"

Setting Up the Passwords

The wired furniture is an essential part of playing Telephrase. Purchase one WIRED Effect: Teleport to Furni and set it on the floor of your room. Then purchase a WIRED Trigger: User Says Keyword. Stack the User Says Keyword on top of the Teleport to Furni.

Double-click the Teleport to Furni and then when the box shows up, click the furni on which you would like the Habbos who have said the correct word teleport. As you can see on the picture, the furniture glows white when it has been highlighted. Make sure this furniture, and only this furniture, is highlighted when you click "Ready."

By double-clicking the box on top (the WIRED Trigger: User Says Keyword), you can set the password, which is the answer to your first theme. Let's use "countries in Europe" as an example.

Double click the User Says Keyword and set the password to "Germany." Then click "Ready." When you say Germany, it will come out as a whisper (only you will see it) and you will be automatically teleported to the seat if you set up everything correctly.

Players will guess answers to the theme (for example, France, Sweden, England, Russia, etc.) and when someone correctly guesses "Germany," they will go to the seat and pass the round.

When there is one person left, they are out.

You can also make an "exit" WIRED Trigger so that you don't have to kick people when they lose. Buy two more WIRED Triggers and set them up the same as explained above, except select a furniture near the entrance and make the password "exit."

Theme Ideas

Here are some theme ideas for Telephrase:

  • Countries (in continents is better, such as Europe, South America, etc.)
  • US states
  • Vegetables/fruit
  • Actors/actresses
  • Sports players
  • Recent award winners (the Olympics, Academy Awards, etc.)
  • Colours
  • Materials
  • Animals (mammals, fish, birds)
  • Types of trees
  • Types of cars

Before Inviting People to Play

Make sure that you have a gate separating the entrance to the playing area, space for the host to sit, and the winning chair and gate. A piece of furniture will do, as well.

Double check the WIRED Triggers work by typing the password. Also, check that the "exit" wire works. Sit in your space, open the gate to let people in, and you're good to go!

Invite people by selecting everyone (using Ctrl) on your friend's list and clicking the box "invite friends." Tell them there's a Telephrase game on and what you're offering as a prize!

You can also promote your room. When in your room, find "Promote Room" at the top left to buy visibility for two hours. Select "Games" in the drop-down box and make a title, such as "Telephrase Game." People looking for a game will soon find you.

Telephrase is a lot of fun to play and to host. Think of some great themes before you start and don't forget to change the password on the WIRED Trigger before starting each new theme. Be nice, reward good behaviour, and dish out great prizes in your epic room to become a great game host!
