Level Up in "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim": Magic
Level Up Magic Quickly in Skyrim
Magic can be a difficult group of skills to level up in Skyrim. With so many different disciplines available, it can be challenging to level all of them while going about completing quests. Most gamers' play styles end up neglecting several different types of magic. Relying on trainers to increase obscure magic skills can be a huge expense and waste. However, with the right strategies, all different disciplines of magic can be leveled up. All of these skills, except enchanting, should be leveled while wearing magic regenerating clothing. This will greatly reduce the time required to use these techniques and gain experience.
An effective way to improve this magic discipline is to find a trap, preferably one that deals continuous damage. Simply stand in the range of fire of the trap and cast health-regenerating spells. Don't use the Healing spell, as this spell is a continuous drain, and magic doesn't regenerate during spell casting. Be careful while doing this so that your health doesn't get too low. Gaining experience doesn't work all that well when you're dead.
Leveling up this magic skillset in Skyrim is fairly easy, but it can take a significant amount of time. The most effective method I have found involves constantly casting the Muffle spell repeatedly. Whenever traveling across Skyrim, simply cast the spell constantly as you walk. You may look funny doing this when walking through an open field, but don't worry, the NPCs won't judge. Eventually, this technique will result in fully leveling Illusion.
Destruction is one of the more flashy types of magic, so it is less likely that people will need to worry about leveling this discipline. However, if you haven't been blasting people with lightning and fire since your first day at Helgen, there is a way to more directly level Destruction. The best method for this is to first conjure a Frost Atronach and blast it with a fire spell. If possible, stand inside a doorway that is too small for the Atronach to fit through. It will get stuck and allow you to more easily target it. Again, this isn't the most fun way to gain experience in Destruction, but it will get the job done.
Using the Soul Trap spell is an effective way to level up Conjuration. Since the game considers dead bodies to still be targets for Conjuration spells, Soul Trap can be cast upon the bodies. Obviously this won't start filling soul gems, but the game will still recognize the bodies as viable targets. Doing this repeatedly will help increase your level in this magic skill set. Just don't get too comfortable with the bodies because, you know, that's gross.
A good method to leveling up this magic skill involves the Waterbreathing spell. Simply enter a pool of water and cast this spell as rapidly as possible. The water doesn't even need to be very deep for the spell to be cast effectively; about waist high will do. Using this spell will definitely help level up Alteration.
The best way to level up this magic skill is through enchanting simple items with weak soul gems. Using an iron knife with petty soul gems works the best because of the wide availability of iron and the low cost of purchasing weak soul gems. These enchanted knives can then be sold and recoup some of the costs of purchasing the materials. It's always nice to be able to level up while earning back gold, especially in the early stages of Skyrim where money is still an issue.
Leveling these magic skills can take an obscene amount of time. Fortunately, some of them can be leveled simply by using the spells nonchalantly as you play the game. I hope that these tips help you max out the levels for magic and gain valuable perks to create a mighty character in Skyrim.
