"Pokémon X and Y" Walkthrough: Tower of Mastery and Route 12
Matt Bird writes all sorts of nonsense, but he dedicates a large chunk of his time to writing game walkthroughs.
You've defeated Korrina, the Gym Leader of Shalour City, twice. Not once, twice. Yet the speedster doesn't seem content with letting you off the hook yet, and she's challenged you to face off against her in a Mega Evolution duel atop the Tower of Mastery. Are you strong enough to make the climb . . . ?
Tower of Mastery
- After healing up in the wake of your battle with Korrina, reenter the tower. Go past the guy in the north and ascend to the third room. A guy in here will give you TM 47, Low Sweep.
Korrina's waiting at the top of the path. She'll give you a Mega Ring . . . and then you have to fight her in a duel.
Successor Korrina
Lucario, level 32
Easy fight. Choose Mega Evolution, then Power-Up Punch. Punch twice and the enemy Lucario is toast. There, you now know about Mega Evolutions. (You apparently don't have to win this fight, which I'd kinda suspected but didn't want to test. Thanks to notallright for pointing that out.)
- After the fight's done you'll have the option to take the Lucario with you. You might as well, as it has Lucarionite attached to it, even if you do already have a Lucario. (I may have.)
- Descend the tower. You're done with Shalour City for now. Head through the eastern gate...
- . . . and your neighbour will run up and give you HM 03, Surf. Fancy.
- (You may also want to make a space in your party. Just saying.)

Route 12 – Fourrage City
- Talk to the guy beside the route sign. If you have the Rumble Badge (and a free space in your party) he'll give you a Lapras.
- Head south of the guy. Through a grassy patch is a tree to Cut. Beyond it is an Aspear Berry tree.
- North of the Lapras dude is a field of grass. Check the bare spot in the top-right corner for Honey.
- Once Surf is equipped on one of your Pokémon, use it to swim out into the bay. A trainer patrols nearby.
Swimmer Alessandro
Qwilfish, level 29
Binacle, level 27
Reward: $432
Qwilfish is annoying thanks to its poisoning capability, as well as its overall durability. Otherwise, easy battle.
- Swim to the south and hop off at the bottom edge of the beach. The rock stuck into the sand has a Net Ball.
- Head north. Near the stairs is a trainer.
Hiker Joren
Linoone, level 28
Reward: $1,120
Are Linoone ever a challenge?
- Up the stairs is the Baa de Mer Ranch. Hop on a Skidoo within the ranch and ride it to the northeast end of the ranch. You'll soon discover that Skidoo can leap over ledges from the steep side. Ride the Skiddo just south, along the edge of the fence, to find a ledge. Hop it to get to a Whipped Dream. Then ride the Skidoo north and to the east, over three ledges, and you can dismount to find a Shiny Stone.
- Look behind the house to find a Cuttable tree. Behind it is a Satchet.
- Talk to the girl in the house for TM 45, Attract.
- Head south, through the first field of flowers. Just past it and to your left is a thin pathway. At the end is Leftovers.
- To the right of this path is a trainer.
Pokémon Breeder Amala
Seviper, level 27
Miltank, level 29
Reward: $1,856
Seviper's painful but frail. Miltank's the real issue, as it can heal itself and potentially do a lot of damage with Rollout. A heavy-duty Fighting-type can deal with both threats.
- Straight east is another trainer.
Youngster Aidan
Yanma, level 27
Whirlipede, level 27
Mothim, level 27
Reward: $648
Yanma and Mothim are fairly easy to beat. Whirlipede can be a pain if it poisons your Pokémon and then uses Protect consecutively, but overall, it's not that bad either.
- Follow the path north. Trainer!
Pokémon Breeder Foster
Zangoose, level 27
Tauros, level 29
Reward: $1,856
Be careful with these guys. They might be Normal-types, but Zangoose can wipe out Rock- or Steel-types with Revenge, as well as anyone who can't take it out in one hit. Fighting-types are your best bet, and hopefully, ones that can finish the job in a single hit.
- Continue north. At the next split, you'll find Coumarine City to your right and a small beach to your left. A trainer waits on the beach. Take two steps west of the trainer and face south to find a hidden Ice Heal. (Thanks to nova3riddle for that one.)
Fisherman Murray
Magikarp, level 24
Magikarp, level 24
Magikarp, level 24
Magikarp, level 24
Magikarp, level 24
Magikarp, level 24
Reward: $1,344
There's one in every game . . . sigh . . .
- Surf north of the beach. There's an inlet to your left. In the shallows, you'll find a rock containing a Water Stone.
- Further north is Azure Bay. I'll deal with that in another walkthrough, after we've been to Coumarine City. Speaking of which, make tracks back there for your next Pokémon Gym Challenge!
