One gym challenge down, seven more to go. You're making good progress thus far. Next up, the path to Lumiose City!

. . . But first, assuming you didn't check it out earlier to prepare for said gym challenge, Route 22! It's there, so, hey, why not?

Route 22 – Detourner Way

  • Enter the way through the northeastern exit of Santalune City. Head north. You'll soon run afoul of a trainer.

Rising Star Louise

Psyduck, level 6

Litleo, level 7

Reward: $420

Not a problem. She covers a fair number of potential weaknesses, but her Pokémon are at a low level. Pummel her with strong attacks.

  • North of Louise is a tree to Cut down. Remember it for later when you can do something about it.
  • East of Louise is another trainer.

Lass Elin

Goldeen, level 6

Marill, level 6

Reward: $144

Another easy fight. She likes her Water-types; keep fire out of the mix if you can.

  • Continue east. The guy east of the sign will fight you.

Rising Star Loic

Riolu, level 9

Reward: $540

Riolu is a tough little hombre with his Fighting-type moves. So long as you keep Normal-types away from him this battle shouldn't be too bad, though.

  • South of this guy is a kid in the grass. Approach him to battle.

Schoolboy Rabbie

Pidgey, level 7

Metapod, level 5

Reward: $160

The Pidgey is a little tough. The Metapod . . . is a Metapod. Thrash the guy.

  • Keep going south through the gauntlet of trainers. Another!

Schoolgirl Mackenzie

Bunnelby, level 8

Reward: $256

As if you've never fought a Bunnelby before.

  • Just south of Mackenzie is a ledge. Jump over it to return to the beginning of the route. Along the way, you'll find a Super Potion.
  • Beside the stairs leading east is, yep, one more trainer.

Lass Elsa

Flabebe, level 8

Reward: $192

Ooo, your first Fairy-type Pokémon. Flabebe is, unfortunately, no stronger than the rest of the Pokémon on this route. Flabyebye!

  • South of Elsa is a patch of water you can (eventually) cross. Buuuuut not right now.
  • Continue east and you'll discover no less than Victory Road, the path to the Pokémon League. You don't have the badge requirements to pass this way yet, nor are you strong enough to face what lies east, so you can't go any further. Backtrack to Santalune City.

  • Enough dallying. Head towards the northern exit of Santalune City. Talk to the woman here and she'll give you the Exp. Share for beating the gym leader. Sweet.

Route 4 – Parterre Way

  • The hedge maze to your left when you come in has a Repel at the end of one of its paths (as well as a hidden Honey in its bottom-left corner) . . .
  • . . . while the one on the right has a Super Potion.
  • Further up on the right you'll find a Great Ball.
  • Aaaaand back on the left is an Antidote . . . as well as a trainer.

Gardener Wheaton

Corphish, level 10

Reward: $640

At a higher level, this Corphish probably would be rather tough. Right now, though, it has some fairly weak moves. Enjoy.

  • Move north to the fountain. There are two skaters to fight, circling the fountain.

Roller Skater Calida

Fletchling, level 10

Reward: $320

Piece of cake. Standard Fletchling.

Roller Skater Roland

Pidgey, level 10

Reward: $320

Even easier. Ho-hum.

  • North of the fountain there's a line of three bushes. Check the northernmost one for Honey. (I swear I've picked this Honey up twice. Can anybody else confirm or deny that it regenerates each day? Maybe Honey drops just do that.) On the right side of the path is another trainer.

Poke Fan Agnes

Burmy, level 7

Burmy, level 7

Burmy, level 7

Reward: $570

These three Burmy might look different, but they're all equally weak. Blast 'em.

  • On either side of the path you'll find trainers.

Preschooler Adrien

Magikarp, level 9

Reward: $144

Poor thing. Put it out of its misery.

pokemon-x-and-y-walkthrough-part-five-route-22-and-route-4

Preschooler Mia

Budew, level 9

Reward: $144

Well, it's stronger than the Magikarp . . .

  • Take the central path and you'll find a Poison Barb near a big clump of flowers. You'll also find a trainer.

Poke Fan Gabe

Pichu, level 7

Pikachu, level 9

Reward: $720

Water- and Flying-types need not apply. Otherwise, pretty simple.

  • If you go through the top left hedge maze you'll find a trainer and a Net Ball. You can get the Ball by going through the flowers instead and skipping the trainer, if you wish. Also in here is a hidden Honey; check the last space in the small dead-end near the south of the maze.

Gardener Grover

Corphish, level 10

Reward: $640

Another Corphish pushover. Yawn.

  • If you go through the top right hedge maze you'll find another trainer and an Ether. You can again skip him by going through the flowers. In the north of this maze, you'll find a Super Potion, hidden on the left-wing of the three-way dead end in the north.

Gardener Fabien

Corphish, level 10

Reward: $640

Guys, really, stop using only Corphish.

Done checking out the gardens? The approach the two students in the north. They appear to be disciples of Professor Sycamore, the resident Pokemon expert, and they're rather pushy about leading you straight to him. Eh, might as well . . .

Return Trip

Route 22

  • North of the entrance, on the west side of the first field of grass, is a tree to Cut. Behind it is an Elixir.
  • Near the end of the Route, by the entrance to Victory Road, is a patch of water to Surf on and a waterfall to descend. Venture down here and you'll find two trainers, listed below.

Ace Trainer Adelbert

Lucario, level 31

Reward: $3,100

Lucario are always tough, but if you bring down a Fighting-type you'll maul it.

Ace Trainer Hilde

Sharpedo, level 29

Gardevoir, level 30

Reward: $3,000

Speedy but frail. Shouldn't cause much trouble.

The Pokémon in the flower field are different from the ones that appear elsewhere on Route 22, and they are worth hunting.

  • Down here you'll find a small cave called the Chamber of Emptiness. Not too foreboding. Inside is a Spooky Plate. Come here after upgrading your Mega Ring, between 8 and 9 PM, to find Banettite.
  • South of the Chamber of Emptiness is a Strength puzzle. Start by pushing the bottom stone on the upper path as far left as you can. Push it north one space, then circle to its left side and push it into the hole to the right. Next, push the stone on the far right down until it hits the rock, then left, then up and into the second hole. Last, push the final stone east and north, into the last hole. This will open a path to TM 26, Earthquake.
  • The rock closest to the water on the west side of the puzzle contains a Full Restore. Check the wall to the left or where you dumped the second rock for a Max Elixir. Last, check the right of the area for a Tanga Berry.
  • Use Waterfall to ascend the waterfall on the right of this area. You'll find a Draco Plate at the top.
