The game's afoot in Stormhold. The Dominion has slipped secretly into the region, and they're using a legion of skin-stealers to gain a foothold and kill off prominent members of the Pact. Worse, they're using their newfound positions of power to trick their 'allies' into deadly traps. You need to get to the bottom of this skin-stealing business before it gets out of hand...

Scouring the Mire

Location: Ten-Maur-Wolk, Stormhold

NPC: Vicecanon Hrondar

Level: 24

Reward: 50 gold

  • To trigger this quest you must first complete Getting to the Truth. After finishing up in the Silyanorn Ruins, speak to Vicecanon Hrondar outside the Mortuary to complete the quest and spark Scouring the Mire.
  • Hrondar has determined - with a bit of help - that the Dominion is active in Stormhold, kidnapping and killing citizens to steal their skins. He asks your help in attacking their entrenched lines in the Daedric ruin of Ten-Maur-Wolk, outside Stormhold.
  • Leave Stormhold from the eastern entrance and walk south along the road. The path will guide you down to the Bogmother Wayshrine; you'll find Hrondar just south of the Wayshrine with a few soldiers. Speaking to him will complete the quest and trigger a new one.

Trail of the Skin-Stealer

Location: Ten-Maur-Wolk, Stormhold

NPC: Vicecanon Hrondar

Level: 24

Reward: 260 gold

  • The vicecanons of Stormhold are all here, but there's a problem: they've all been run off in the middle of a scrap with the Dominion. Great. Hrondar asks you to go looking for the lot and bring them home safely.
  • Follow the road a short ways south, then take a left into the ruins. Fight off the Dominion troops watching over the area and look for a cave secreted in the rock wall on your left. The Dominion troops are hiding inside; speak to Vicecanon Heita-Meen to learn that they're being used as a trap to draw Hrondar into the field.
  • Run straight out of the cave. They're a shallow marsh just outside, and in the middle of it an island. Approach the dais on the island to find a body. Inspect it for a nasty little shock.
  • Head west through the ruins, fighting off anyone who comes near, until you see several cages. Speak to the writhing soldier Mudyn beside the cages.
  • Rush back to the east and climb up to the rock dais where an Argonian writhes. Speak to him and a Dominion soldier named Nedrasa will appear on the ground below. Drop down and kill her. She's fairly straightforward as far as fights go, and is most likely to attempt to use knockdown attacks to take you out. Block and kill her while she's stunned.
  • Ukatesi, the Argonian, will run off after Nedrasa is dead. Follow him east and he'll hide behind a ruined arch. Speak to him and he'll offer to lead you to Hrondar by scent alone.
  • Wander east down the path nearby. Atop a small platform at the end of the path you'll find Hrondar. Check him out, then speak to Ukatesi to complete the quest. He'll also offer you another quest.

The Skin-Stealer's Lair

Location: Ten-Maur-Wolk, Stormhold

NPC: Ukatesi

Level: 24

Reward: Wrap of My Enemy's Skin, 416 gold, 1 Skill Point

  • Poor Vicecanon Hrondar is dead, and Ukatesi wants to hunt down the skin-stealer that filched the vicecanon's appearance. He points you to a hill that 'Hrondar' insisted his forces ignore. Return to the path and climb the hill on your left to find the entrance to the Ruins of Ten-Maur-Wolk, accessible via a portal.
  • A short way inside you'll find a floating NPC named Lyranth. A Daedra, she's being used by the Dominion. You can either agree to set her free via a pair of altars further in or turn her down and go it alone, though ultimately you'll be forced to follow her plan.
  • Fight your way into the ruins to the northeast room. Back here you'll find a dude named Bijot, and he'll ask you to help his friends. You can either enlist his aid in stopping the skin-stealer or continue along with Lyranth's plans. If you agree to help him you'll have to free three of his friends: one's in the north, one's in the far west near the entrance, and the last is in the far south, near the end of the ruins. All three are contained within crystals. You have to be at just the right distance and angle for one or two of these crystals to trigger their destruction.
  • Speak to Bijot near the final room in the ruins, assuming you destroyed crystals, then speak to Lyranth inside. Once that's done the way to the skin-stealer's lair will be opened behind her. If you instead followed Lyranth's plan, you'll find two crystals in this room binding her; destroy them to release her.
  • In the next area you need to destroy a number of Hist Vats. Leap down onto the lower floor of the larger chamber, kill any enemies lingering down here (there should only be three or four), and set the four huge pots flanking both sides of the upper pathway ablaze. Stand right at the foot of the Hist Vats to destroy them.
  • Getting rid of all four will make the Hrondar skin-stealer appear on the other side of the chamber. If you helped Bijot you can ask him to save 'Hrondar's' prisoners, preventing the skin-stealer from using their deaths to bolster his combat power. If you helped Lyranth she'll just kill them for you instead. Same results, ultimately.
  • Hrondar is a fairly standard enemy. He hits hard. If you didn't accept help, however, he'll draw strength from the sacrifices on his altar and hit you all the harder. Other than that, fairly standard battle. Block when he charges, smack him around when he doesn't.
  • Pop into the portal that appears after defeating Hrondar and you'll jump back to the main map. Speak to Vicecanon Servyna nearby for your reward. Keep talking to her to unlock a new quest in the line: Cracking the Egg.
