"Skyrim": The Companions of Whiterun Radiant Quests Walkthrough
A "gamer" since way before the term was coined, I have been playing video games in one form or another since the 1980s.
How to Navigate the Various Companions Radiant Quests
The Companions Radiant quests are mostly random when you help Aela, Farkas, Skjor, or Vilkas early in the main questline.
However, once you complete a certain amount of quests or some of the major quests in the Companions questline, these objectives change slightly.
You can begin the first hunt quests from the time you become a member until you complete the Companions Quest—Blood’s Honor, then you can begin the second quests until such time as you complete the Companions Quest—Glory of the Dead.
After that, the last quests are available from Aela, Farkas, and Vilkas.

Quest Giver | Aela |
---|---|
Objective | Assassinate the Silver Hand leader |
Location | Random |
Reward | None |
Aela wants to strike the Silver Hand directly by killing the leader of a Silver Hand group found in a random area in Skyrim. Although you do not need to kill everyone inside, it may be difficult to reach the leader without drawing attention. Be prepared for a fight with multiple enemies.
Stealing Plans
Quest Giver | Aela |
---|---|
Objective | Steal plans from Silver Hand camp |
Location | Random |
Reward | None |
Find the random Silver Hand camp and infiltrate it to steal the Silver Hand Stratagem from somewhere inside. You do not need to kill anyone to complete this quest, so use stealth if you want.
Retrieval
Quest Giver | Aela |
---|---|
Objective | Retrieve a fragment of Wuuthrad |
Location | Random |
Reward | Fragment of Ysgramor’s Blade |
Aela believes she knows where a piece of the broken blade of Ysgramor is located. Enter the area and search out the piece in a chest or on a table inside.
Totems of Hircine
Quest Giver | Aela |
---|---|
Objective | Retrieve a Totem of Hircine |
Location | Random |
Reward | Totem of Hircine with ability or spell |
Find the entrance to a randomized location and locate the totem inside, which is generally deep within the area. When you return the totem to the Underforge in Whiterun, you can change abilities based on the Totem found.
Purity
Quest Giver | Farkas or Vilkas |
---|---|
Objective | Collect a Glenmore Witch Head; Cleanse Farkas or Vilkas of lycanthropy; Kill wolf spirit |
Location | Glenmore Coven cave |
Reward | None, but can choose to be cured of lycanthropy |
Farkas or Vilkas will ask you to collect a Glenmore Witch Head to cure themselves of the curse of the werewolf. If you wiped out all of the witches for the Companions Quest—Blood’s Honor, then you should already have the witches’ heads in your inventory and can skip returning to the area.
If not, find the cave at the Glenmore Coven area and slay another, taking the head. Throw the witch’s head into the Flame of the Harbinger in Ysgramor’s Tomb (as found in the Companions Quest—Glory of the Dead) and kill the wolf spirit that emerges.
You can cure yourself as well, but know that you can never use your werewolf beast form again if you do.
Dragon Seekers
Quest Giver | Farkas or Vilkas |
---|---|
Objective | Kill dragon at random location |
Location | Random |
Reward | Dragon Soul |
Take Farkas or Vilkas to the randomly generated area and slay the dragon there. You receive a dragon soul for defeating the dragon, but you do not get a reward from the Companions for doing so.
