Who Should I Romance in “Mass Effect: Andromeda”? A Complete Guide
Poppy is the author of "A Bard's Lament." She lives in Enoshima and likes to read novels and play video games, especially open-world RPGs.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is the latest installment of the highly popular Mass Effect series, a space opera RPG that has won the hearts and hours of thousands of players worldwide. Unlike the original trilogy, Andromeda takes place in an entirely new galaxy with a new set of characters and brand new alien planets to explore.
As is common with BioWare games, Mass Effect: Andromeda gives us the opportunity to romance some of the characters! Flirting with everyone is easy, but what about when it's time to lock in a romance and commit Ryder to that character? This is a full guide on all ten romanceable characters in Andromeda, the requirements to woo them, and some information about the difficulty and love scenes.
1. Liam
Requirement: female Ryder
Romance storyline drama: playful, casual, sweet
Sex scene: yes
Liam Kosta is one of the first people you meet and he first accompanies you to the first planet you encounter in the Andromeda Galaxy. This friendly ex-cop is only available to romance if you're playing as the female Ryder. Though he seems casual and carefree, he can care deeply for you if you play your cards right and complete his personal missions.
2. Cora
Requirement: male Ryder
Romance storyline drama: passionate, serious
Sex scene: yes
You also meet Cora Harper near the beginning of the game. Although she's disappointed that Ryder became the next Pathfinder instead of her, she gets on with it and her hardworking attitude won the hearts of many players. Some say she's the best romance in the game.
Cora has a lot of personal missions that must be completed to romance her, including hunting down the missing Arks, but she's worth it. She also has a famously beautiful butt!
3. Jaal
Requirement: male or female Ryder
Romance storyline: passionate, sweet, engaging
Sex scene: yes
Jaal Ama Darav started out as only being available to the female Ryder, but due to popular demand, this sexy Angaran was patched to be romanceable whether you're playing as Scott or Sara.
Jaal is from an alien race which shows more emotion than others, and though Jaal and his people have plenty of reason not to trust Ryder and the Initiative at first, he can warm up to you when you earn his trust. You can also earn his affection by flirting with him, making history with your love! Jaal is one of my favorite people to romance and his love scene is one of the best in the game.
4. Peebee
Requirement: male or female Ryder
Romance storyline: playful, naughty
Sex scene: yes
Some tend to love or hate Pelessaria "Peebee" B'Sayle, the quirky Asari girl with a fascination for Remnant technology. You first meet her during the Priority Op mission "A New Beginning."
Peebee doesn't like getting close to people emotionally, and she can seem like a tough shell to crack. However, complete her personal missions, flirt with her enough, and she's yours.
You can sleep with Peebee as a one-time thing, but don't do this if you want to start a more serious relationship with her.
5. Suvi
Requirement: female Ryder
Romance storyline: cute, sweet
Sex scene: no
Dr. Suvi Anwar is the liaison between the Nexus spacecraft and your crew on the Tempest. She's shy and is a firm believer in God, a faith that she defends with vigor. Her Scottish accent turned the heads of many players who enjoy romancing this loveable scientist.
Only Sara Ryder can enjoy winning Suvi's love. Hers is one of the easier romance options, requiring fewer personal missions and effort.
6. Vetra
Requirement: male or female Ryder
Romance storyline: cute, fun
Sex scene: no
Vetra Nyx is a strong warrior who joins you on the Tempest and your adventures. Her troublesome sister, backstory, and no-nonsense personality make her one of the more interesting characters. Her sarcasm and wit make for a fun romance.
7. Gil
Requirement: male Ryder
Romance storyline: fun, engaging
Sex scene: no
Gil Brodie is the impulsive, poker-loving chief engineer aboard the Tempest. Always up for flirting and fun, Gil likes Ryder right away and he is fairly easy to romance, with an unusual option to even become parents together.
8. Reyes
Requirement: male or female Ryder
Romance storyline: cheeky, fun
Sex scene: no
You might recognize Reyes Vidal's voice as it's the same actor (Nicholas Boulton) who played the male Hawke in Dragon Age II. This cheeky and mysterious smuggler charmed the socks off many Andromeda players. He started off as just a fling, but BioWare patched him into a full-blown romance.
Side with Reyes when settling Kadara and flirt with him enough, and he'll be yours.
9. Avela
Requirement: male Ryder
Romance storyline: cute
Sex scene: no
Avela Kjar is the only other romanceable Angaran in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Eager to learn and fascinated with history, Avela's incredibly cute and likable. Complete her quests by collecting artifacts and chat and flirt with her on Aya whenever possible, and this adorable Angaran lady will fall in love with Ryder in no time.
Her romance isn't as in-depth as some of the others, which makes it easier but less emotional. Her romance is more of a fling than a full-blown relationship.
10. Keri
Requirement: male or female Ryder
Romance storyline: innocent, sweet
Sex scene: no
Keri T'Vessa first approaches you on the Nexus asking if Ryder is willing to participate in an interview about the state of things. Go with brutal honesty in the interview, flirt with her enough, and you can happily start a fling with this passionate young Asari woman.
Like Avela, your "romance" with Keri is shorter than the first eight romances on this list. Also, if you're hoping for steamy scenes, Keri might not be for you.
Who Will You Choose?
Romance is a great aspect of BioWare games, and Andromeda delivered a great cast of cute, fun, and flirty characters for Ryder to choose! With this guide, you might have a clearer picture of who you'd like to settle with while you explore the galaxy and find home.
