Poppy is the author of "A Bard's Lament" and the Black Diamond series. She lives in Enoshima, Japan, with her husband and young son.
Since its release in the 1990s as a video game series and anime, the Pokémon franchise has skyrocketed in popularity and is now recognized all over the world. Games, manga comics, movies, trading cards, and merchandise is never in short supply, especially in Japan.
With new games coming out every year and a continuing anime show, this fantastic franchise continues to delight generation after generation who collect, trade, and battle Pokémon in hopes of completing their Pokédexes and perhaps becoming Champion.
Shiny Pokémon have been an exciting feature since the Gold and Silver installations of the handheld games. Shinies are extremely rare, with only having a chance of appearing once in thousands of encounters in most games, and are exciting to find! Here is a list of the top 10 coolest-looking Shiny Pokémon in Generation 3, or Pokémon 252 to 386.
Pokédex number: 356
Dusclops is the Ghost-type evolved form of Duskull. In his Shiny design, his comparatively boring grey coat is replaced with one of a charming dark red! Most Shinies tend to have a purple or green palette, but Duskull and Dusclops' elegant red designs are memorable.
Pokédex number: 353
Another Ghost-type Pokémon of Generation 3 is Shuppet, a small, spherical creature likely named for its resemblance to a "shadow puppet." In his Shiny design, Shuppet's dark blue coat turns a sort of turquoise, a stark contrast to its original and a delight to any Trainer lucky enough to encounter him.
Pokédex number: 324
Torkoal is an awesome turtle-like Pokémon with a shell representing, according to Bulbapedia, a kitchen stove. His regular design is cool enough, but his Shiny design is nothing short of fabulous. A Shiny Torkoal has a yellow-gold sheen and a purple shell. Adorable!
Pokédex number: 319
A cool-looking shark Pokémon, Sharpedo is a powerful underwater menace that can also mega-evolve. His Shiny form is so purple and cute that it takes him from deadly Dark-type shark to fabulous new friend!
Pokédex number: 334
Altaria is one of my favorite Pokémon for its adorable fluffy body. She is another Pokémon that can Mega-Evolve. Her Shiny edition replaces the blue and white plumage with a stunning gold coat. She definitely has one of the best Shiny designs!
Pokédex number: 359
Absol is one of the most memorable Dark-type Pokémon out there. He was portrayed as a wise giver of advice in the Game Boy Advance games Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red and Blue and also appears as a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
His Shiny design replaces his coat of white with pale pink, and his face, tail, and claws are reddish-orange. Definitely a Shiny worth seeking out!
Pokédex number: 376
Metagross is a powerful and robotic Steel- and Psychic-type Pokémon and the evolved form of Metang. It is one of the few non-Legendary Pokémon that is always genderless.
Its Shiny form makes its coat, which looks like iron, into silver, with the cross on its face and claws turning gold. A definite upgrade from his original design and a perfect example of what a Shiny should look like!
Pokédex number: 323
Camerupt has low speed but high defense and attack, making him a tank of the Pokémon world! This enormous fire camel is the favorite of many Generation 3 players. His Shiny form looks even more badass, exchanging his orange fur for black and the rings on his sides become yellow. Give me a gothic Camerupt any day!
Pokédex number: 315
A girlish Pokémon reminiscent of Generation 2's Bellossom, Roselia is a cute, feminine Grass-type Pokémon with roses for hands. The roses are pink and blue, but in her Shiny form, they're a stunning purple and black. This cutie's Shiny form is even better than the original.
Pokédex number: 297
Hariyama evolves from Makuhita, both of which have designs inspired by Japanese sumo wrestlers. Hariyama is a powerful Pokémon with a devastating Close Combat move. His usual orange and yellow palette is replaced by a jazzy purple, his yellow belt changing to orange. Definitely the coolest Gen 3 Shiny out there!
Shiny Pokémon are super exciting to encounter, especially when you have the chance to catch them and win mad bragging rights! Which is your favorite Shiny Pokémon from Generation 3?
