When it comes to the classic isometric action RPG genre, games like Diablo and Diablo II have a lot to answer for. They set the tone for the gameplay loop that even spawned games like Destiny and Borderlands. The concept of slaughtering foe after foe in a timeless loop of dungeon-to-town has been a key part of video gaming for over two decades now. However, while Blizzard might have caught lightning in a bottle with Diablo 2, future titles so far have failed to meet the same standard. That’s why Torchlight 2 was such a revelation.

When it was first released, the second part of the Torchlight series built on the foundations of the old Diablo in pristine style. Developed by people who were involved with the creation of the original Diablo game, they managed to capture that same addictive gameplay loop. The only difference is that the world of Torchlight is more likely to remind you of Warcraft than Diablo.

It’s far less gritty and far less dark, but it’s a wonderful experience all the same. If you have already finished your trip through T2, though, you might be looking for something new to play. Well, why not check out these 10 games like Torchlight 2?

You might enjoy the unique character—voiced by Geralt of Rivia himself—and the interesting combat style. Paired with a pretty wonderful armada of loot to pick up as you battle through its interesting enough storyline, and Victor Vran is definitely one of the games like Torchlight 2 worth trying out.

2. Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem

While Wolcen wasn’t best received when it first came on the scene, the game has improved massively since release. In this game you battle through an interesting world as you level up your character, engaging in dealing with the vast corruption that has taken over massive swathes of the world.

The storyline isn’t exactly life-changing and it does lack a little in terms of innovation, but Wolcen is one of the games like Torchlight 2 that we recommend you try out. If you are looking for a really modern experience then this is almost certain to tick that box for you and offer something that is very much going to be worth investing your time into.

3. Emberheart

Take a look at Emberheart from a distance and you might be forgiven for thinking it is actually just T2. The layout, the design, the colour scheme, and the actual detail of how the game works can feel very similar. It’s all about giving you a chance to play something that goes back to classic Diablo 2 style gameplay, whilst having an addictive but easy to understand gameplay loop that should keep you coming back time and time again.

The challenge with Emberheart is making sure you get used to its rather interesting difficulty curve. In many games like this, you can breeze through. Embertheart, though, offers a pretty classic challenge.

4. Diablo 3

How can we have a list of games like Torchlight 2 without including at least one Diablo game? The third iteration of Diablo is the most recent and thus the most accessible. While we all wait with bated breath for the return of Diablo 2 in the form of Resurrected, you might wish to take a look at Diablo 3.

While it trades much of the darkness and gothic charm of the original Diablo games, lovers of T2 should find a modern, addictive action RPG that is very easy to play. It has enough detail and depth in the characters to warrant multiple characters. At the same time, it has a great post-game mode that can encourage returning on a daily basis for that sweet, sweet gear.

5. The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing

A trilogy of games released as a Final Cut, this is one of the most intriguing T2-likes on the market. This packages all three games into the one style so that they all play the same and your character carries over from game to game. They are fun, with interesting writing and playing styles as well as enough diversity in the characters to make you want to come back for a bit more in the future.

It’s definitely one of the best games like Torchlight 2 out there, especially if you are looking for some proper value for money. There are many, many hours of fun waiting for you in this Final Cut.

6. Path of Exile

The ‘Diablo killer’ itself, Path of Exile has done more than any other series to put Blizzard into a panic. Add in the fact that it's free, and we cannot think of a single reason why you might not want to try out this epic game.

It’s one of the best RPGs of its kind, with a gripping story that manages to easily capture the heart and the soul of Diablo 2. Add in a wonderful plot and an amazing skills system, and Path of Exile feels truly unique.

Work your way through a gorgeous world of mythology, making your way into various parts of Greek and other mythologies as you fight your way to the pinnacle of progress.

A wonderfully engaging game, perhaps let down by some outdated graphics. If you don’t mind that and the rather generic character creator, though, Titan Quest makes for a pretty sublime game to try out if you like an open-ended isometric RPG with deep character skills.

8. Grim Dawn

Many see Grim Dawn as the Diablo 3 successor at least in terms of its gritty nature. Some find it a bit tough to get into, but it is an engaging concept with a deep and interesting world. Iron is the main currency of this world, and the game follows that grimy, gothic feel that made Diablo 2 feel like such a rewarding experience.

If you are looking for games like Torchlight 2 that maintain a more faithful approach to the Diablo and Torchlight formula, then you should find that this game makes a pretty good landing spot.
