Women in Zelda
Though Link is the protagonist in most Zelda games, he's supported by dozens of admirable women, from the titular Princess Zelda herself to his fairy companion Navi. Women throughout Hyrule play a crucial role in repelling Ganon's forces, and many have a connection to magic—even the realm's goddesses are female.
Many of us grew up admiring the beauty and intelligence these characters display—which are most endearing? Here are the ten prettiest gals throughout The Legend of Zelda!
10. Fi
First Appearance: Skyward Sword
Link often travels with a mystical entity of some sort, and Fi's far more endearing than his prior fairy companions. A human spirit contained within Link's blade, Fi offers vast knowledge of enemies and unyielding devotion to her master. Though she seems emotionless, she slowly but surely cultivates a bond with her wielder.
9. Ilia
First Appearance: Twilight Princess
Link's childhood ranching companion bears a kind demeanor and love of horses, especially Epona. Her kidnapping sets off the game's story, and while she's soon found, her memories of Link are gone, shown in one of the series' saddest scenes.
Still, the two bond throughout the game, and most consider her the most "canonical" love interest in Twilight Princess.
8. Ashai
First Appearance: Breath of the Wild
BotW revealed many details about the famed Gerudo tribe, which Ganondorf himself stems from. Gerudo are a predominantly female race, characterized by their height, red hair, and desert-dwelling tendencies.
Their harsh lifestyle keeps them in peak physical form, with even teachers like Ashai bearing sculpted bodies. Ashai prepares her peers about life outside the tribe and instructs them in valuable cooking abilities.

7. Linkle
First Appearance: Hyrule Warriors
With male Link hogging the spotlight in most titles, Linkle gives a glimpse at what a female Link might offer, or perhaps a little sister (an idea already explored in games like Wind Waker). While Link uses normal bows, Linkle favors twin crossbows, making her a deadly ranged warrior.
6. Midna
First Appearance: Twilight Princess
Midna's true form unlocks her magical powers, capable of rivaling Ganondorf. Even before that, her knowledge of the Twilight Realm proves essential to Wolf Link, and it's hard not to like her spirited attitude. She's one of Link's most dependable partners, traveling through many dungeons and warping him between realms as needed.
5. Nayru, Din, and Farore
First Appearance: Oracle of Seasons
Goddesses in some of their appearances, oracles in others, these three always carry impressive magical powers. Red-haired Din, sometimes portrayed as a dancer, governs fire and seasons. Blue-haired Nayru controls time, while green-haired Farore commands life itself.
4. Ruto
First Appearance: Ocarina of Time
Princess of the Zora tribe and Sage of Water, Ruto proves an invaluable ally in both Link's childhood and adult years. Her flirtatious and energetic demeanor help her stand out among the game's more reserved women (Saria, Zelda, etc.), and she even believes herself engaged to Link thanks to the Zora Sapphire serving as a form of proposal.
Though a bit of a diva, Ruto showcases her battle prowess in Hyrule Warriors, employing slow but widespread attacks that cover a wide area.
3. Lana
First Appearance: Hyrule Warriors
One of her game's exclusive characters, Lana bears a childlike demeanor that belies her inner fortitude and determination. She's also a versatile warrior, blending lightning spells with spear attacks, and she can also summon monsters and heal allies.
2. Malon
First Appearance: Ocarina of Time
Mature for her young age and skilled with animals, Malon helps Link bond with his horse Epona, who quickly becomes a series staple. Adult Malon also has a look-alike, Cremia, in Majora's Mask, a mature rancher troubled by the moon's impending crash.
Many consider Malon the canonical love interest in OoT, which would explain why Twilight Princess Link is a rancher, supported by the gossip stones revealing that she dreams of a knight sweeping her off her feet.
1. Zelda
First Appearance: The Legend of Zelda
The legendary princess herself varies in appearance and age across the franchise, but no matter her exact incarnation, she's a wise and charismatic leader bearing the Triforce of Wisdom. Gifted with magic and transformation, Zelda assists Link from both near and afar, often wielding the ultimate light arrows needed to slay Ganon.
Zelda's wisdom, compassion, and beauty have captivated gamers for decades.
The Importance of Hyrule's Women
Although Link steals the spotlight in most games, he's always relied on the strength of his female companions to claim victory. Women seem blessed with magical talents far surpassing men's, like the seven maidens or the mystical fairies, and without their aid, Hyrule would long ago have fallen. But for now, vote for your favorite character and I'll see you at our next gaming countdown!
