The Sims 4 is a great game that gives you total control over the life of your “Sim.” Create their look and personality, build and design their home, give them a job, make friends, lovers and enemies with the other Sims in their town, build their skills and give them hobbies, send them on vacations, and more! Even with so much to do, though, the game can still become boring eventually. It might start to feel like you’ve done everything you can do and it’s easy to stop playing the game out of boredom for a while.

However, sometimes it just takes some new and creative ideas to make the game fun again! Here’s a list of 15+ things to do when your Sims game is “boring”!

1. Play as One of the Townies in the Game

In each Sims 4 world there are townies: pre-made Sims created by the Sims 4 developers, who have a backstory and lives prior to you starting the game. Why not select one of the townies, like Bob Pancakes, or Bella Goth and play out their life in the game?

2. Download a Family from the Gallery and Play a Game as Them

This is similar in idea to playing as one of the pre-made townies in the game, except you can choose from a large variety (over ___ millions) of user-created Sims. Download a family you like the look of, plop them in the game, and start a new story with them!

3. Recreate Yourself and Your Friends in the Game

I’ve pretty much always started each fresh save game with a copy of my Simself, and then as she has children, I’ll switch focus to them and so-on. Creating yourself in the game is fun for obvious reasons; you can live out the life you’ve dreamed of: your dream job, ideal skills, and even dream spouse! It’s also fun to create your real-life friends, spouse and family, too!

Especially with McCommand Centre’s mod which allows for story-progression; you never know which of your real life friends might get married in the game!

4. Give Your Townies a Makeover

Let’s face it- the townies in the game are absolute fashion disasters. I make them over even when I’m not “bored” with my current gameplay; truthfully, it needs to be done every time new Sims are generated. You can go to Manage Worlds and click the Unplayed Households tab, then edit each household and change their hair, clothing, and even facial features.

Make sure you have the cheat “cas.fulleditmode” enabled to fully makeover your townie’s bodies/traits.

5. Focus on Reaching Level 10 of a Career You've Never Played

There are so many careers in the Sims 4 now and it’s easy to overlook some just to play your favourite time and time again. Why not try out a career you’ve never played before? You can even give your new Sims traits and aspirations that’ll help them achieve their goal.

Here’s The Ultimate "Sims 4" Career Guide if you’re looking for more information about all the careers in the game!

6. Try Maxing out All Skills

You’ll probably want to turn aging off for this one (go to Options > Gameplay Options, and then select "no" for the option "Auto Age (Played Sims)), but why not make your Sims’ goal to max out all their skills? Or maybe have a few Sims in the household max out certain skills? There are over 35 skills in The Sims 4 (with all DLC in the game)- can your Sims reach Level 10 in them all?

7. Make a Household Full of Toddlers

I call this the daycare challenge: make a family with one adult (or two, if you just feel it’s impossible) and seven (or six) toddlers, plop them down in a house and try taking care of them all. I’ve done it before, and it’s pure madness, but a lot of fun!

8. Try Completing an In-Game Collection

There’s quite a few collectables in the game- everything from frogs, gems, bugs, figurines, and even playing cards (if you have the Kids Stuff pack installed). I’ve never finished a complete collection, but it can be a fun task to undertake!

9. Recreate Your Favourite TV Show or Movie

There are some truly amazing creations in the gallery of TV show casts and lots that are recreated from famous TV/movie sets, so you can definitely recreate your favourite TV show or movie in The Sims 4 by downloading Sims and lots that fit the theme! Why not play a game as the characters from Stranger Things? Recreate Westeros and play as Daenerys and Jon! Get the Vampires game pack, and play as Damon Salvatore!

10. Download a House from the Gallery and Redecorate It

Once again, The Sims 4 Gallery can add so much free content to your game. Why not download a house from the gallery and redecorate it? Better yet, search for the hashtag #shell or #empty and find homes which already have no furniture in them to decorate to your liking.

11. Redecorate or Renovate One of the Houses Already in the Game

It’s also fun to renovate one of the houses already in the game. Give the Pancakes' house a pool. Go into the Landgraab home and update it with some of the swankier furniture from the Vintage Glamour or Get Famous packs!

12. Recreate Your Own Home

It’s always fun to try and recreate your own house in The Sims! See how faithful of a version you can come up with. You can also use The Sims 4 as a tool to design your place in real life; try laying out the floor plan of your home, and move or add new furniture and see if you can redecorate your home virtually before changing things up in real life!

13. Build Some Community Lots

I created this "Celebrity Events Center" for my game and uploaded it to the gallery recently. I use it in my game for my celebrity Sims to host meet and greets.

I love building community lots for my Sims games. Sims need things to do outside of their home lots and that’s what community lots are: bars, lounges, restaurants, parks, etc. Build a new gym, library, museum, or whatever you think your town needs!

14. Buy an Expansion or Game Pack

If you don’t already own all the DLC released for The Sims 4, and you’re bored with the game as it is, it might be a good time to buy some DLC! Game Packs and Expansion Packs add the most change to your game; everything from new life states and creatures (Vampires, Pets) to new changes in every day gameplay (Seasons, Get Together).

There’s lots of official downloadable content to choose from, but if you’re looking to know which the best ones are, have a look at The Best (and Worst) "Sims 4" Game Packs!

15. Try a Challenge

The Sims games have always had user-created challenges, and The Sims 4 is no exception. Why not try The Sims 4 History Challenge? Or the Black Widow Challenge? Or The Generations Challenge?

There are probably hundreds out there, but if you’re looking for the best of the best, check out this list of 14 Awesome and Fun Challenges to Play in the Sims 4!

16. Download Some Mods

Finally, why not use some modifications in your game and spice things up? Mods are user-created content which change (modify) your normal gameplay. You can add hundreds of new careers, new foods and skills, become a mermaid or witch and more, through the use of mods.

Here’s a list of the 10+ Must-Have Mods for "The Sims 4" and a guide on how to How to Install Custom Content and Mods in "The Sims 4" (PC & Mac)
