The mind, made manifest. Clawing out the contents of their innermost souls and plastering it on canvas, sims who undertake the Painter career are the premiere artists of The Sims 4. They can craft the most beautiful compositions out of paint and paper, and love to gloat about their work to others in the finest of high art establishments. They also usually have the swankiest pads in the world.

Painter sims have one rather obvious Aspiration, and that’s Creative - Painter Extraordinaire. Muser will help your sim raise their skill levels quite nicely. As far as Traits go sims might want to consider Creative, Art Lover, Perfectionist, and, for Patrons of Arts, Outgoing.

Below is a listing of the tiers for Painter, and its two branches. Note that a single sim cannot explore both branches. You’ll need two Painter sims to see everything.

Painter

  • Ideal Mood: Inspired
  • Daily Task: Create Paintings (Painter, Master of the Real); View Paintings (Patron of the Arts)

Level 1 - Palette Cleaner

  • Wage: $21 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Days: Monday - Friday
  • Bonus: None

Welcome to the world of the artist. To escape the entry tier of Painter your sim must reach level two of the Painting skill, which you can do by Painting on easels or reading books. You must also Admire three different works of art, which you can do by buying and viewing said art or looking at it in a museum (or someone else’s home, your choice).

Level 2 - Art Book Collator

  • Wage: $23 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Days: Monday - Friday
  • Bonus: $422, Picture Perfect Art Lighting, Research Art Reference on computers

Still in the slums of the art world. Your sim will have to reach level three in Painting and successfully Research Art Reference twice. Yes, you can muck up.

Level 3 - Hungry Artist

  • Wage: $26 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Days: Tuesday - Saturday
  • Bonus: $464, Study of the Human Form

Who needs food? To rise above this level your sim will have to reach Painting level four, as well as create three different-size paintings on an easel (in other words, Small, Medium, and Large).

Level 4 - Watercolor Dabbler

  • Wage: $29 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Days: Monday - Wednesday, Friday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $510, Easy-Breezy Easel, Critically Assess paintings interaction

Splish splash. To reach the next level your sim must reach Painting level five and create one excellent painting. Hover over the painting to see if it’s of excellent quality or not. Practice makes perfect, and this may take a while at lower levels.

Level 5 - Canvas Creator

  • Wage: $35 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $587, Painting Canvas Storage Rack, Gather Inspiration from art, Hire Agent on the phone

Ooo, canvas. To gain a promotion your sim will have to reach level six in Painting. They’ll also have to sell five paintings to Art Galleries, which you can do via your home’s mail box.

Note that Hiring an Agent will allow you to sell your paintings for a bit more money than usual. Quite handy if you sell paintings on the side - or quit your sim’s job and go freelance full time.

Level 6 - Imaginative Imagist

  • Wage: $44 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Wednesday - Saturday
  • Bonus: $845, Vase of Sunflowers, new CAS parts

Moving up in the art world. To reach the next career level your sim must reach level seven in Painting (starting to seem like a trend) and create three high-quality paintings.

Once your reach level seven your Painter will branch out in one of two potential directions.

Master of the Real

Level 7 - Artist en Residence

  • Wage: $65 / hour
  • Time: 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $1,088, Artiste Supply Taboret

Your sim has become ever so slightly exotic. To jump ahead one level your sim must reach Painting level eight and create one masterpiece. This gets easier with each new level of Painting, and is more or less a matter of time.

Level 8 - Professional Painter

  • Wage: $140 / hour
  • Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Bonus: $1,399, Deluxe All-Season Easel

You’ve finally gone pro. To reach the next level your sim must reach level nine of Painting (surprise!) and create an excellent painting in every genre. Might take a while, but it’ll happen.

Level 9 - Illustrious Illustrator

  • Wage: $1280 / hour
  • Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Bonus: $1,678, Premium Prima Ballerina

Aaaaaalmost at the top. Your sim needs to max out Painting at ten, create and sell three masterpiece paintings, and Describe Aesthetics to a group of sims. Unless you have a large family or feel like throwing a party, you’ll want to head to a museum to do this last one.

Level 10 - Master of the Real

  • Wage: $492 / hour
  • Time: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Days: Monday, Thursday
  • Bonus: $2,937, Fiegel Studio Floor Lamp, new CAS parts

  • Wage: $70 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Tuesday - Thursday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $464, Sturdy of the Human Form

How ‘bout those colours, eh? To reach the next level your sim must get to level eight in Painting, View / Admire ten different works of art, and Discuss Color Theory with two other sims. The last two requirements can be easily fulfilled in a museum.

Level 8 - Fine-Art Aficionado

  • Wage: $126 / hour
  • Time: 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Tuesday - Thursday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $1,259, Pre-Owned Painter’s Easel

Gettin’ a bit snobby. To reach the next level your sim needs to reach level nine in Painting, own one masterpiece painting, and Describe Aesthetics to three other sims.

Level 9 - Composition Curator

  • Wage: $227 / hour
  • Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $2,203, Stack of Canvases

Almost at the top of the art world. To reach the final level of Patron of the Arts your sim must max out their Painting skill at level ten, reach level three in the Charisma skill, and own ten masterpiece paintings. Charisma is the only unusual requirement, and you can complete it by Practicing Speech in a mirror for a while.

Level 10 - Patron of the Arts

  • Wage: $328 / hour
  • Time: 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
  • Days: Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
  • Bonus: $3,273, Rustic Dream Bed, new CAS parts

Thanks matt! It helped and reduced my time to understand the Sims 4. But for your post, I would have abandoned sims 4 for good. Well illustrated.
