Aeldari Corsairs Escorts

The Escorts of the Aeldari Corsairs, comprising the two sub-classes of ships, the Destroyers and Frigates, bring the insane speeds of the Eldar ships to the fight while packing incredibly powerful weaponry that all come together to make for a faction that finds its home making fast hit and run strafing attacks against their enemies before quickly zipping back out of range of the enemies guns, using a multitude of tactics and abilities to keep the enemy's guns from hitting their highly delicate vessels.

With he Escorts representing the smallest, most fragile and fastest ships in the game coupled with the Aeldari's mentioned high engine speeds, you'll find the top of the line speedsters don't sacrifice in the way of their dps or crit ouput, instead forcing you to take much more care and attention in how you plan your attacks to get their full utility.

Terms Used

This section briefly covers the advanced weapon data you will find for each ship. These values are calculated based off the base weapons stats and are explained as follows:

DPS - Damage Per Second - The total damage output per weapon type (all guns combined) per second, assuming 100% of shots land, before considering armor penalties.

Crits Pm - Critical Hits Per Minute - Assuming all shots land, this will be the average number of critical hit's the guns will cause every minute before modifiers. (all guns combined)

Salvos PM - Salvos Per Minute - The total number of combined waves of fire, not including multiple rounds fired from the same weapon.

Rounds PM - The actual number of shots or individual projectiles fired each minute from all guns combined.

Corsairs Destroyer Stats

The two Destroyers of the Aeldari Corsairs fleet, the Nightshade and Hemlock, set the tone for the Corsairs fleet going forth, having exceptional engines and turning speeds at the cost of no real armor protection and their special use shields which can be highly useful when used right, or lead to your untimely death if not.

Corsairs Escorts Attributes & Skills

The Aeldari have a number of very unique attributes and skills that permeate their fleet, giving them unique maneuvers, a special type of shield that requires the ships to always be moving fast and to counter such benefits, the fragile attribute which makes them much more likely to receive crits.

  • Aeldari Propulsion: Gives access to Aeldari Corsairs maneuvers.
  • Disciplined: +25 bonus to bravery.
  • Holofield: Replaces regular shield with the Corsair's special shield type.
  • Fragile: The ship has a 100% increased chance of suffering a critical hit.
  • Void Species: Immune to Plasma Storms and Solar Eruptions.
  • Escort: Does not have access to assault skills.
  • Shroud Hull: Starts battle stealthed. If ship re-enters stealth, it is kept until next revealed.

The Hemlock is a true beast of a Destroyer, outclassing the vast majority of ships in it's sub-class in a multitude of ways, since normally Frigates tend to be the better on paper damage and crit dealers. Capable of outpacing multiple ships twice its size in damage while zipping faster then they could possibly hope to match speeds with makes the Hemlock a real glass cannon, with a points cost to match.

In terms of how the damage is dealt, requiring strafing runs thanks to possessing the minimal firing arc Pulsar Cannons, the Hemlock, like the Nightshade in its own way, is comparable to the Hellebore, basically dropping a bit of damage, half the hull and the torpedoes for the light speed turning rate and engine power.

Point Cost: 59
Raw Total Crit Output: 0.3 critical hits per minute
Raw Total DPS: 2
Armament:

  • Torpedo Launcher (2 Tubes)
    Basic Torpedoes (2 Charges)
  • 3 x Light Starcannon Artillery

    90° Front
    Range: 9,000

The Nightshade is your token torpedo Destroyer vessel, but with a bit higher on paper dps with standard weapons than what is normally seen in it's comparisons. Not a major difference to herald as triumph on its own, but notable nonetheless. Now when you top that off with the insane speeds of the Aeldari and the special faction ability that allows the torpedo hits to shut off command stances, and you probably have contender for top torpedo destroyer.

Since you need to give this ship extra attention to make strafing runs with your torpedoes, the Hellebore has an upper-hand in this department considering the additional firepower makes it more worth your time, if the 16 point cost difference isn't critical to your fleet composition, or you don't have another reason, go with the Frigate since the extra hull and dps will help you in the long run, especially if you find yourself lacking opportunities to make use of the torpedoes.

Point Cost: 71
Raw Total Crit Output: 1.5 critical hits per minute
Raw Total DPS: 10
Armament:

  • 15 x Light Starcannon Artillery
    Exceptional Accuracy (85/70/55/40/25)
    90° Front
    Range: 9,000

The Aconit is a high DPS output frigate at an affordable cost for the Aeldari Corsairs. Packing in all of it's firepower into Starcannons, this also means that with the Runic Targeting node, the Aconit has one of the best consistent high damage applications of all the escorts in the game, especially considering the high accuracy of the Corsairs weapons.

Using this escort at max range, with it's fast engines and the ability to hold onto stealth without needing silent running on, makes this frigate an amazing option for a serious kiting harasser. Combine this with the Spirit Stone Targeting Node and you can sit just outside of scanner ability range while doing it to.

Point Cost: 74
Raw Total Crit Output: 2.025 critical hits per minute

The Hellebore is the Corsair Frigate that says, have pretty much everything, weapons wise. Bringing torpedoes, a high damage Starcannon variant and the already excellent pulsar cannon beam, the Hellebore is a threat matching other faction's Light Cruisers.

The high base crit chance is coupled with a pretty high on paper dps, that when taking into account the accuracy, armor piercing and extra torpedoes, competes for top spot in practical dps application with the Aconit, though with more attention required to manually plan strafing runs to get the full effect.
