Dragons of Atlantis Stone Dragon Outpost Guide

In Dragons of Atlantis, your Stone Dragon Outpost is your 3rd city of your empire.  The set up is the same as your Water Dragon Outpost and the functionality is the same, but your Great Stone Dragon is much more of a defensive tool.  Your Stone Dragon Outpost is used to increase your resource production, provide another city to train your troops, add to your population, and give your empire another Great Dragon to use in battle.

Stone Dragon Egg

The first thing you will need to do to build your Stone Dragon Outpost is find a Stone Dragon Egg. This egg will hatch into your Great Stone Dragon. You can find a Stone Dragon Egg by farming level 7 or higher Hills. Check out my guide below to get more details on finding your Stone Dragon Egg.

Here you can see what I attacked the level 10 Plain with and my results. The important information is in the number of monsters defending the Plain, so make sure you have enough troops to conquer the plain before sending your attack.

Control a Plain

The second requirement that Dragons of Atlantis assigns for you to build your Stone Dragon Outpost is to control a wilderness Plain. This Plain is where you will build your Outpost. Depending on your playstyle, choosing the best place for this Outpost is located will vary. If you are very active in battles and wars with other players and alliances, it would be smart to try to find a location far away from your City and your Water Outpost. If you are more of a PVE (Player vs. Environment) type player, a location close to your other cities would be best.

Make sure you have an open wilderness slot.  If you do not have an open slot, abandon your lowest level wilderness that you control to free up a space.

Wherever you decide to build your Outpost, a Level 10 Plain is the best choice of Plain to control. Level 10 is the highest level wilderness. When you build your Stone Dragon Outpost, you are granted the ability to control additional wildernesses based on the level of the Plain that you build your Outpost on. This is why a Level 10 Plain is the best choice for your Outpost.

Level 9

To build your Stone Dragon Outpost, you must have enough power to achieve level 9.  If you already have your Water Dragon Outpost, you should have more than enough power to be this level.  If you do not, consider expanding your army by training Battle Dragons and Longbowmen.  I typically train 100 Battle Dragons at a time and 1,000 Longbowmen.

Build Your Outpost

Once you have satisfied all of the requirements, click on your empire tab and click on "Create" below Outpost #2.  You will be taken to a screen that allows you to select the location (the Plain that you control) and then you will be taken to your new Outpost.

Don't forget to claim your quest reward for creating your Stone Dragon Outpost.  You get some gold, resources, and even 2,000 power!

Your Outpost's Layout

The layout of your Stone Dragon Outpost should look very familiar. It is exactly the same as your Water Dragon Outpost. In my Water Dragon Outpost Guide, I showed you how I set up my outpost for my style of play. I am taking a different approach with this Outpost. I believe that both set ups are worthwhile and the combination of the two is the best way to go.

You have 27 open slots to work with and only three different building types to place in your Outpost.  You already have a Silo and a Muster Point places for you.  If you followed my guide to create your Water Dragon Outpost, you have a solid resource gathering Outpost already.  The following set up is designed to maximize training of troops.

Silos are used to collect resources from your Farms, Lumbermills, Quaries, and Mines.  Each resource does not go straight to your inventory, it is stored in a Silo until you "collect" the resources by clicking on one of your Silos and clicking the "collect" button.  Six (6) Silos will be sufficient for your Outpost, allow you to store up to 1,863,000 resources (once your Silos are level 9) before you have to collect.  All you have to do is log in once a day or two to keep up with this rate.

Number of Silos to build: 6

Homes give you population (and more importantly, idle population).  Your idle population is the number of troops you can train at one time.  Now that your empire is growing in power and collecting a lot of resources, you will need people to fill in your army and your resource gathering units.  I would suggest building 5-8 homes.  For my Outpost I built 5 homes in my Stone Dragon Outpost and 6 in my Water Dragon Outpost.  I have yet to have a problem with training troops.

Number of Homes to build: 5-8

Training Camps

Training Camps are the bread and butter of your Stone Dragon Outpost. Use whatever slots you have left after building your Silos and Homes for Training Camps. The more training camps you have (and the higher their levels), the faster your troops will be trained. It's that simple. Lots of training camps = faster training = more domination.

Number of Training Camps to build: As many as possible (17 with my setup)

Here's my layout with 5 Homes, 6 Silos, 1 Muster Point, and 17 Training Camps.
Here's my layout with 5 Homes, 6 Silos, 1 Muster Point, and 17 Training Camps.

Now that your city is up built, you can focus on building your resource gathering units. Your setup for your Stone Dragon Outpost Field should be based on your play style. I went with a balanced approach, building the same amount of each resource gathering building. Most of your resources should be coming from your attacks on Anthropus Camps and farming other players cities and Outposts, so the resources you gain from your Outpost is just a bonus.

My setup is as follows:

7 Farms, 8 Lumbermills, 7 Quarries, 8 Mines

  • To reach your maximum number of field units, your Stone Dragon's Keep needs to be level 7.

Stone Dragon Armor

As with your other Great Dragons, your Stone Dragon can wear Stone Dragon Armor and be used in battle. Check out my guide on finding your Stone Dragon Armor here.

Question: In your Water Outpost, you advised to have as many as 11 Silos, why did you suggest to have only 6 here?

Valar 5 years ago

The number of silos you need depends solely on how much resources you produce and how often you log in to collect resources. If you have all lvl 9 resource buildings in your field, you have 4500*30 or 135,000 resources per hour. I built only four silos, because with four lvl 9 silos, you only need to collect resources every 8 hours (@3 times a day-morning, afternoon, and before bed) before they are full. If you only log in twice a day, you might want 6.

your guide is wrong, it claims stone dragon armour is obtained in level 5+ camps. this is false as stone dragon armour is obtained in level 7+ hills.

It is better to not make farms at all, as yor food productions will go into the negatives and you could just farm anthropus camps.
